This is one of our native birds a Kookaburra, or a laughing ******* to some.

Yes, they really do laugh & they also forecast the weather.

If they laugh in the afternoon it means rain or a storm coming, in the morning it means a fine day.:)

Sing along with me now.....

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree,
Eating all the gum drops he can see....

STOP kookaburra, STOP kookaburra,
Save some there for me!

(something like that:confused: )

I didn't realize they predicted the weather, Nutsy.:) We saw a couple of them the last time we went to the zoo and they just looked at us like we were idiots.;)

This might help those who wish to singalong....:)

I'm getting Girl Scout Camp flashbacks with this song:eek:

Oh my gosh.....the minute I saw the title of this I remembered that song....word-for-word. I think we sang it in 2nd grade.

Thanks Auriel!

Last year when my daughter was in 3rd grade, they did a christmas play, Kookaburra's Christmas Down Under. It was one of the best school plays I have seen in many, many years.

I think they are such cool birds! :) I was out on the patio at my parent's house having coffee with my dad. We heard a woodpecker (not pecking but making some sort of call) and I said it sounded like a kookaburra. ;) It did, but just a little bit. I wish we had them over here! :)
