we are spending the day at the water park then going to the poly for dinner and to watch wished from the beach. so here is my question

do I do Kona at 5:25 or
ohana at 7:15

I wanted oHANA at 6pm but wasn`t available I am traveling with a 3 and 5 year old. I really wanted to try Ohana but is that too late. I am not a double booker I booked Kona because that is all they had when I called back every day to see if they had ohana this is the first option the had.....the cm told me to book it and just call tomorrow to cancel one of them. So I just booked it and I want to call right at 7 tomorrow to release the `wrong`ressie

I wanted Ohana (or so I thought) b/c of all the hooplah I've heard. But, after really looking at the menus I am positive that our kids (2 1/2 & 4) will love the food @ Kona much better, so that's what I booked! :)

i looked at the kona menu and thought it looked really good BUT i love the idea of the fire and meat on a stick...kind of a different experience. looking at the ohana it was the only menu huuby not impressed with at all

This is just my opinion based on three visits to both Kona and 'Ohana but the food at Kona is WAYYYYYY better than the food at 'Ohana. The skewers of meat at 'Ohana were dry, tough and way overcooked. So much so that we're not even going to give 'Ohana a try on our next trip. It's used up its three strikes.

OTOH Kona has been absolutely delicious every meal we've eaten there. The teriyaki steak and coconut crusted chicken have been consistently excellent each time. It's one of the only "must-do" restaurants we have.

Ohana's is lots of fun for the kids. A 7:15 reservation is not that bad because it is a set menu so they start bringing you food immediately. It is not like Kona where you order and then you need to wait for your food. If you are intending to stick around and watch the fireworks then I think that a 7:15 reservation is perfect. I have eaten at both locations and I would suggest Ohana's for the kids.

I love both!
Are you worried about it being too late to catch wishes, or too late because of kids' bedtimes. If bedtimes: Are you changing time zones? Is 7:15 really 6:15 or 5:15 where you're from, if so, 7:15 won't be too late. What time do your kids normally go to bed? If wishes-What time is Wishes that night? As long as you have a good hour and a half before wishes starts, you'll be fine with OHana I would think. Kona you better plan on 2 hours, we've gotten some super-slow service there.
We had an 8 or 8:30 ADR at OHana and were able to see wishes and the water parade from the restaurant windows. You wouldn't be able to do that from Kona because there are no windows.
I suggest as others have said, just looking over the menus and see what sounds good. I ususally get the steak at Kona, and at Ohana I love their salad, potstickers, shrimp, & dessert!

I don't think you could go wrong by eating at either restaurant but I personally would choose O'hana's simply for the atmosphere. I love eating near the windows. Your reservation for O'hanas would give you time to make it down to the beach to see the Electric Water Pageant and Wishes.pixiedust:

we thought the food at Ohana was way better than Kona! Kona was close to the bottom of our list when ranking restaurants. It was fine, but nothing memorable.
We loved ALL the food at Ohana! We are disappointed they got rid of the potatoes, though.
Ohana made everyone's list to eat at again (from the 7YO to the 62YO). No one even mentioned Kona!
AND Kona has NO ambiance.
I would never say DON'T eat at Kona, but Ohana hands down for me.

On a side topic, is the electric water parade every night wishes is shown? I don't see a "schedule" for that. What time does it start? I assume before wishes. It sounds really cool and I think our kids would love it after our Ohana dinner.

We love the kona! Last year we went to kona our first time since I was not able to make ADR at Ohanas. DBf fell in love with the teriyaki steak and everything else was really good IMO. This year we are trying Ohanas (finally!) but DBf also made a request specifically for Kona, so we are going to both!

I've eatten at both and Ohana was a little crazy due to all the signing and kids activities. I thought while the meat was good they need some more side dishes, a potatoe dish would be fantastic as no one in our 15 people party cared for the noodles so if your ok eating a lot of meat you'll dig it. The BBQ sauce is very tasty.

Note they can provide an alternate for kids who do not care for the menu. My DD had chicken nuggets.

Kona while not fancy has nice meals and I like that it's quick and some nights I just want a nice meal.

thanks for all the responses it looks like either way it will be good. If we eat at 7pm at ohana it looks like the timing would be perfect to get down to the beach for the 9pm wishes and then the pagent. thanks again :) Now I only wish I could fit both places into my week somewhere.
