We're staying at GF this thanksgiving, and I'm anxious to try out the kona coffee over at the Poly. I want to take a pound of ground, back to our room for morning/evening coffee.

Questions.

- Anyone have any info about who supplies this coffee to WDW, and where it's roasted?
- Will they grind it for you there, fresh? I normally grind my own coffee, but I'm leaving my grinder at home.
- I hear they serve coffee from press pots. Is this coffee best pressed? I normally use a drip maker at home. Do you think a press pot would be a little cumbersome in a hotel room?

Thanks in advance!:sunny:

Think the press course of action, for good coffee, is to go to the Kona or Boma where they do the pressed pot. The ideal way to have coffee is to coarsely grind your fresh beans, put them in the french press. Add hot water, stir, and let stand for 4 minutes. Press and serve. This can be a pain in the behind, but it makes great coffee.

Can you get Kona coffee buy the pound at the Poly? Is it pre-ground course for French press only? Can I ask for a finer grind, suitable of the 4cup drip makers they offer in the rooms?

Yes, you can buy the Kona whole bean or ground at the little coffee stand next to Kona Cafe. However, the 100% Kona is about $40 for 12 ounces. That's what I paid last fall. The Kona blend is also very good and quite a bit cheaper. We are going to bring our press, grinder and electric kettle so that we can buy beans at the Poly and brew in our room on mornings when we do not have PS breakfast planned. When we stayed at the Poly last year, DH insisted that we have breakfast at Kona Cafe every morning so we could have the press pot. Best coffee ever.

Almost forgot to answer your other question: I was told they fly the coffee in from Hawaii every week.

oh yummmmmmy but 40 for 12 oz is to much ( we go through 3 lbs awwwweekkkkk( the extra letters represent my caffine shakes:hyper:

do you know how much the kona blend is? do they sell kenyan coffee at the AKL?

Thanks

Yes, it was really expensive, but worth it--I spent $80 total on one bag of 100% Kona Beans and two or three bags of blend. I'm pretty sure it was three because I believe I gave one to my cofee-loving brother as a gift, but don't hold me to it.

We rationed our Kona until Christmas! I look at it this way: my DH loves good coffee and it is his only "vice" so a once-year-indulgence in some expensive coffee is ok. I just consider it part of our vacation budget. I spend just as much on my pin collection!

Seriously, I hope you at least try a press pot or two and that you love it as much as we do.

I know there's a lot of negative comments about the coffee at WDW in general, but this is not your ordinary cup of coffee. I haven't yet had the kona coffee at Poly, but I'm really looking forward to it.
(Yikes $40 for 12 ounces!)

This from Kona Mountain Coffee . I doubt they are the supplier for WDW, but you'll get the idea.

Coffee was first planted in the Hawaiian islands in the early 1800's with cuttings taken from coffee trees in South America. The volcanic soil, abundant sunshine, and afternoon rainfall make the Kona growing region one of the premier coffee growing regions in the world.
Hawaii is the only place in the United States where coffee is grown. The Kona coffee growing region is limited to the leeward slopes of the volcanoes of Hualalai and Mauna Loa, making it a truly exclusive American product.
Visitors to the island of Hawaii often wonder why it appears to be cloudy in the Kona area in the afternoon. The locals refer to this as "VOG," or volcanic fog, a phenomenon associated with the ongoing volcanic activity at the southern tip of the island. The VOG often makes for cooler afternoons in the Kona Coffee belt, providing natural shading for our coffee trees.

I can tell you that there is a wonderful place in Kona that grows and sells their own Kona coffee, as well as the only 100% grown, manufactured and marketed Hawaiian chocolate in the world. These people are wonderful to do business with and ship very promptly to you. I highly recommend them from personal experience:

Their coffee is served and sold here in Raleigh at the infamous Angus Barn Restaurant, which is a marvelous endorsement in itself.

My husband has had both the Poly's Kona coffee and has ordered the coffee from Hawaii General Store and prefers the Hawaii General Store brand.

WOW you look at the prices for a lb of coffe and I think I'm better off addicted to drugs. OK, deffinately not. After the initial sticker shock I realized that each pot would probably cost only $5 or $6. Heck I'm worth that. Where's that order form!!

Thanks so much for the info on Hawaii General Store--I will give them a try. Sadly, way back when I visited Hawaii in my 20s, I was not the coffee fiend I am today!

Still, nothing beats that press pot and a hunk of Tonga Toast at the Kona Cafe with the sound of the waterfall in the atrium, the view of the monorail pulling up just outside...can't wait to be there in November!

Something else for all you coffee junkies--we drive from NJ and rely on Starbucks Double Shots to keep us going. Yummy and high voltage.

of the Kona coffee at $40 for 12 oz at the Poly. The link listed below is $34 for 16 oz and includes shipping. I have seen them pick the coffee there and watched them roast it. It is the finest Kona Coffee I have ever tried. I have had the Kona Coffee at the poly and it is very good. The stuff from Hawaii General Store is to die for.

Their Chocolate is to die for as well. The only 100% grown and produced Hawaiian chocolate in the world.

And just so you know, no I do not own the place!!!! LOL. It is just that good!

my daughetr is going to Hawaii and getting back 3 days before we leave for disney so maybe I will put in an "order" with her.

I think the 12 oz. is up to $42 per bag now. DH has brought it home each month for the past few months lately when he returns from business trips to Orlando. That crazy man lets our teen boys (3 of them) drink some almost every day. Oh, well.. when it's gone it's gone til next month...
