we halways have a choice of restaurant each, my choice this year i think will be the kona cafe can anyone tell me what the food is like, experience etc plus i heard the sweets are to die for, please elaborate

Last fall, we had breakfast at the Kona Cafe every morning of our trip, lunch on check-in day, and dinner one night. All our meals were good. It is a nice and casual spot.

For breakfast they are known for their Tong Toast (banana stuffed french toast--enormous, very sweet, good to try once) and their awesome 100% Kona Coffee in a press pot.

For lunch we had salads--very good.

The dinner menu is very nice. We had sticky wings to start, and they were wonderful. I had Pan Asian Pasta which was tasty, but not as flavorful as I would like. My husband had excellent salmon. The desserts are gorgeous--you can look at all of them before deciding what to order. We had the KoKoPuffs, but there were many other temptations I would go back to try.

Enjoy!

I tried this on my last trip for breakfast & dinner. I tried the tonga toast that everyone raves about, but found it very sweet and filling and ended up leaving 1/2 behind. I then tried Kona for dinner. Had a PS, but still ended up waiting 45 minutes to be seated. Ordered grilled steak cooked medium, but what came out was a thin piece of meat, cooked well done and it definitely was not grilled, put more in a pan like you would at home. Dessert was absolutely delicious!

I would do dessert here, but that would probably be it.

In the past 2 years we have had 3 dinners, 2 breakfasts, and 2 take out lunches(sticky wings) there. We have always found the food, service, and atmosphere to be wonderful!
Big thumbs up from us.

I love the Kona Cafe! We have only done lunch and dinner there but have found the food to be wonderful. They have an Asian pasta dish that is excellent.

I don't eat desserts but those in my family who do also enjoy them here.

I think the Kona Cafe is one of the hidden treasures of Disney dining. :)

I love the Kona Cafe, although I've only eaten there once. But every time we have dinner at Ohana, we have to visit the incredible Chocolate Dragon they have on the food service bar inside Kona Cafe !!!! I was so depressed the one time we visited. Someone had broken the wing off and it was undergoing repairs :(

This is the one Disney restaurant that serves consistently yummy food and excellent service! Check my tag under my name...the Kileau Torte is incredible;) ;) Warm hazelnut filling inside a chocolate cake with whipped cream, their Puffs are wonderful too!

The Pot Stickers and Sticky Wings are also heavenly! The place is just great. This is the only place we eat at every time we go to Disney!

Blessings,
Emmy

We love Kona Cafe. We have breakfast there at least twice each trip. Dinner has very good food for good value.

I have more Kona Cafe photos HERE including close-ups of 5 different desserts. :)

I think we must have caught Kona on a bad day - we thought our meal was just OK. Our server wasn't particularly friendly and we did wait a while for our food. Can't remember what we got now - a couple of years ago but lets just say it is one of the few Disney restaurants we wouldn't rush back to - sorry...

Then again we didn't try any of the desserts - we had waited so long for our entree and wanted to catch the MK fireworks from the beach.

The other two I wouldn't go back to in a hurry are Garden Grill and Boatwrights - both to do with service rather than the food. One of our current favorites is LTT - again due to a brilliant server. It's funny how one person's attitude can make someone's mind up about a particular place - same in shops (service is much superior in the US rather than the UK, by the way)

Our family has stayed at the Polynesian and dined at the Kona Cafe more times than we can remember. Ask for Debby as your server; she is a blast. There is a picture of her on the Tikiman's website. Have never had a bad meal there, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner. Try the crab cakes, sticky wings, tonga toast, Big Kahuna breakfat and the Kiddie Kones.
