kona cafe opinion

I liked the coffee rubbed porkchop and side items. excellent

I didn't like the ribeye (too fatty but the meat that wasn't fatty was tasty) and I didn't like the wild mushroom side (rubbery and too salty.)

DS 8 loves the kona kone ice cream dessert with cotton candy. You can get 1 scoop vanilla and 1 scoop chocolate instead of 2 of the same.

I didn't like the pineapple upside down cake -- nothing special, tasted dry, stale.

I agree with the PP about the lack of ambiance at this restaurant and that the servers can be iffy / weird / inattentive.

Come with an appetite for the sweet bread and butter -- yummy.

Consistently one of the best restaurants on site.

Sushi is excellent.
Teriyaki steak, tuna oscar, coffee pork chop, various fish dishes, etc., all have been great, same with the chicken wings appetizer.

The ribeye steak was the only dish I've had there that I wasn't crazy about. It was still good, but not as amazing as some of the other dishes.

best meal ive ever had....the bread and butter AMAZING!!!! Teryaki steak OMG awesome......the place is nice we were near a window in the back and it wasnt loud.....best part of my trip...less then a year and we will be there again

We had an Ohana reservation last week, but decided to go to Kona, because we didn't want so much food. I got the sticky wings appetizer with no mustard and they were just as delicious as Ohana's wings. Also DH got a chicken dish that was more like a salad which had a nice flavor and wasn't heavy. Then we got the bread pudding from Ohanas for dessert! It was a win-win!

Love Kona and it is one of our must do restaurants. The bread and butter is good, entrees are yummy, and the desserts are even better. We have always had great luck with servers there.

:thumbsup2

What is your opinion of the kona cafe? I booked there for an August 20th dinner with myself, dh, dd and dgd age 10 at that time. I tried to get a ressie at ohana but couldn't get one. I'm still trying but nothing so far. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

We have always had great meals at Kona's cafe for dinner and last fall we had breakfast there once and it was good as well. O Hana's breakfast was family style and good but dinner is the best there..keep trying to get. to me I think calling dinng helps but know it is not suppose to.....:thumbsup2

I like the Kona Café's food, especially at dinner. The inclusion of the Kona Island Sushi Bar's menu plus the pineapple bread make it the best time of day to eat there. What I don't like is the atmosphere, or lack thereof. The restaurant is only separated from the rest of the Grand Ceremonial House by waist-high partitions. It's very open and loud. Feels a lot like dining in an airport coffee shop or a mall food court.

We chose Kona for the ability to order sushi as well. Something for everyone. :thumbsup2
