What is your opinion of the kona cafe? I booked there for an August 20th dinner with myself, dh, dd and dgd age 10 at that time. I tried to get a ressie at ohana but couldn't get one. I'm still trying but nothing so far. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

we have dined at kona three times - and all three experiences were great. we had great meals and service. plus- the poly is fun to visit!

I like the Kona Café's food, especially at dinner. The inclusion of the Kona Island Sushi Bar's menu plus the pineapple bread make it the best time of day to eat there. What I don't like is the atmosphere, or lack thereof. The restaurant is only separated from the rest of the Grand Ceremonial House by waist-high partitions. It's very open and loud. Feels a lot like dining in an airport coffee shop or a mall food court.

I was going to say the same thing - the food is very good but the restaurant is completely open to the lobby, so can be people walking right by your table even though they are not within the restaurant borders. No privacy and it can be very noisy.

You could always ask to be seated near the windows, which are much more private.

I have had dinner at Kona twice...the food has ALWAYS been superb. The service, however, on both occassions was bad. I am going again for breakfast this time on Mother's Day...we'll see how it goes. I usually give a place 3 tries for service. But by others reviews, it isn't always so....

We've enjoyed dining at Kona. We liked the menu selections, found the food to be well prepared and found the service quite adequate. It is true that it can be noisy, but we've found this to be true of almost all of the non-siganture restaurants at WDW (and some of the signatures too). I hope you all enjoy your meal there.

We love Kona! their ice cream dessert is awesome too!! :)

or skip dessert there and get a dole whip!!

Thanks for all the replies. I'm looking forward to dinner there. I've never been to the Poly so I'm looking forward to seeing it too.

We have eaten at Kona many times - breakfast , lunch and dinner. We have never had a bad meal there. Some things are very good, most things are great. The bread and macadamia nut butter are worth the trip alone - I could eat my weight in the stuff. (:cloud9:) - and don't get me started on the banana chocolate creme brulee.:faint:
We have also eaten at Ohana several times - No way would I skip Kona for Ohana -

Kona Cafe, a tarted-up hotel coffee shop, serves consistently good food, ideal for a quiet lunch or dinner at the resort but not worth going out of your way for.

The good is great ... it has become a must do for us every trip...but the restaurant itself is very open.

Kona Cafe is one of our favorites. It is a must for us each trip. Food is great!! We have tried many of the entrees on the menu, as well as the sushi. And the desserts are awesome too (Hubby's fave is the Kona Cone, and I love the creme brulee or the fondue!). Definitely recommend it :-)

If 'Ohana is what you want just keep trying. I promise you'll get it.

As for Kona, it's good but at breakfast it's amazing.
