Kona and kids?

We currently have ADR's for dinner at WCC during our trip in February, but given the negative reviews lately, I am considering cancelling and rebooking at Kona (if I can). There will be 6 adults and 2 kids dining. The kids will be 4 years old and 17 months old. Would Kona be suitable for them, or is it more of an "adult" restaurant? Is there anyplace else you might suggest?

Basically anywhere in WDW would be suitable for kids as its WDW. Except for Victoria & Alberts maybe. Anyway, WCC is alot of fun and the skillet platters are great! Kona is also great! One of my fave's. However, a very different atmosphere. If you want some tacky fun with good food, go to WCC. If you simply want a great meal, go to Kona's.

The first time we ate at Kona, my older two were 4 and 17 months. We had a wonderful server that doted on my kids, brought their food out first, etc. It, and the adult food, made us fall in love with the place. It's a very open, loud hotel-type cafe so there's not a lot of kid distractions otherwise but we find it to be one of the more efficient meals in terms of getting your food. The downside is that the kids' menu is very limited (always has been, even before the standardization) with the usual junk (hot dog, hamburger and mac and cheese, plus grilled fish as one of the all-in-one deals but you can't order ice cream with the fish so my kids won't order it. )

WCC is a very different experience. Lots of distractions for the kids at dinner. Adult food isn't very good, IMO. The kids menu is the same, except they offer the skillet for kids which mine enjoy.

We're doing both next week!

We will be there next week with our 11 month old DS. DS's first visit to Kona was at 5 months. I felt completely comfortable taking him there.

I highly recommend trying Kona.

Going by reviews will lead you to cancelling all of your ADRs. Every Disney restaurant has negative reviews. Be carefull if you start this practice ...it is like pulling on a loose thread...it will unravel all of your ADRs.

Kona is also kid friendly. Good choice. Great dessert choices for the kids.

We always include Kona in our restauarant choices with my kids (now 5 and 2). While it doesn't have a lot of kid distractions, it is very efficient, good food and has a great gift shop in the same floor that you can take a little walk to if you need a break. Very Kid Friendly. Like someone said- the menu is a little limited for the little ones- usually my older one eats off the adult menu and my little one eats little or nothing (like usual). I;m actually so bummed that we couldn't get an ADR on this upcoming trip. The whole concept of WCC and those ginormous skillets don't do anything for me- but that's just us.

We are leaving in the morning for what will be our 3 year olds 4th trip to disney. At the conclusion she will have spent 40 day s at Disney and her six year old sister 49 days total for their lifetime. Each trip has included a trip to Kona and WCC. WCC is great for the antics, kids games etc. But I agree the food does not overly impress me. Food at Kona is excellent!!!! The desserts are to die for. If quality of food matters, do Kona. It is kid friendly. One trip we all ordered appetizers at Kona for lunch, except husband who did a noodle bowl, and then dug into their unbelievable desserts. My daughter got some gigantic ice cream, cotton candy, m & m, fiasco. SHe still talks about it. More than her times at WCC. Kona is our favorite place to take a break from the hot sun, relax, and have quality food!

Maybe someone can confirm this but it appears the only Kona desserts offered to kids are the fruit salad and an ice cream sundae. Sadly, the famous Kiddie Kone was moved to the adult menu. Just an FYI since there's been talk about the desserts. We'll order one and share with the kids!

That is correct. THe Kiddie Kone is now an adult desert item. However, this is such a shareable desert just ask for extra spoons and share it. We have eaten at Kona Cafe 4 times this year and will be heading back for visit 5 and 6 next month. It's a must do for every trip.

That's how it was when we were there last month. Not a problem for us, though - my mom happily swapped her Kona Kone for DD's make your own sundae, which we shared, and we took my chocolate macadamia tart to go. After the (excellent) appetizers & entrees, us adults weren't very interested in dessert anyway! The kids shared the cone and added the goodies from DS's make your own sundae to make it even better.
