Kohls Cash not really 'Cash'...Is this normal policy?

So I went to Kohls today because I had $60 in Kohls Cash plus a $10 free card plus a 20-25% off purchase in store [20% until 100 25% over].

I had it all calculated out...I would probably pay about $7 after all said and done...

NOPE ended up spending $20+.... why?

because they take the % off AFTER all your KOHLS CASH and $10 gift card...so I got 25% off the remaining $20 or so.... I had her do it in order of purchases then scan the 20-25% coupon then kohls cash and $10 card.

How is this like cash?

Is this normal or could I go back and get better deal?

Thanks.

this is normal. how they always do it. surprised me the first time, but I guess I am use to it now.

AFAIK, Kohl's doesn't claim that Kohl's Cash is "like cash". The terms are spelled out on the reverse side of the coupon given out in the store and in the emailed version for online purchases. It distinctly states "Kohl's Cash® will be applied prior to percent-off total purchase discounts."

Sorry that you didn't understand the terms before you calculated your savings. I hate surprises like that at the checkout counter.

That's how they usually do it.

I did the same thing. Calculated my discount first, then was surprised at my total. I suppose it is written in the fine print somewhere. The cashier told me it was because it was "free money."

I was somewhat more peeved at her refusal to take my 20% off. She used a 15% off coupon she had at the register. She claimed I had to have a kohls card to use the discount. In this case, I HAD read the fine print, and nowhere on that darn coupon did it say it was only for kohls charge card users. Her reply was that it was "policy." What really irked me was that there was another 20% off coupon in my email when I got home. The difference would not have been a huge amount, but still.

All their convoluted rules and sales are why I do not shop at kohls very often. It's too hard to keep track of everything.

Eta: I do think it would be a good thing if they changed the name from "Kohl's Cash" to something else. The name is kind of misleading. It's a coupon, basically, not cash.

Kohls Cash is $ off coupon. All $ off coupons are used and the % off is off the remaining balance.

I just had the same thing happen but I really didn't care. it was the first time I used Kohls cash I got a coffee maker on sale $199, had $150 in Kohls cash and the 25% off. It came to $40.03. Cuisinart had a rebate for $50 so I made $10.:cool1:
The $150 in KC came from buying 2 Kitchen aid mixers for presents with 30% off plus on sale and they both have $50 rebates. So I spent around $300 for 2 mixers, a SS coffee maker, 3 sets of corning ware and 2 food network serving trays.
I'm happy!

If I am not mistaken, the % off is only good on items purchased with your Kohl's card. The part paid for with the Kohl's Cash wouldn't qualify for that.

figured it was in the fine print...

Now I know...I like to get as close to $0 as possible when I have 'free' money.

thanks all!

That's crazy about the 20% off. I don't have a Kohl's charge and never had that issue with that coupon (when it doesn't say with Kohl's card). I just used the 25% off one without a Kohl's card, too.

I went to Kohl's today to use my $90 in Kohl's cash from Black Friday -- Calculated a bit over and had to pay $20.27.

AND I GOT IT BACK! I won the dream receipt giveaway today!

I'm only regretting I didn't go ahead and buy the Pfaltzgraff Winterberry set that was 50% off (or anything else!).

:banana::woohoo:

This happened to me at the store for the first time this week. I usually hand them the coupon then when I get the total I give them the Kohl's cash as payment. This time I gave them both at the same time. I was also surprised. I am not sure if my way of handing them the coupon and then the KC still works (I have been using my KC online for most of the past year) but in the past it has.

That's soooo cool! I saw a lady in front of us in line on Black Friday win a Dream Reciept, she a a ton of stuff!

I just went in tonight and walked around the store for an hour trying to spend my Kohls cash and coupon. I walked out with 2 pks of boxers for nothing OOP, but there is no way they are worth the "$25" I paid for them.

What's your experience using out-of-date kohl's cash. I have $30 valid from march to april 2013, but couldn't use it. (live in Canada). Should I try to use when I go to Buffalo next week?

The store will scan it to see if there is any KC remaining, then use it as a "total amount off merchandise discount" and take your KC (when scanned, it will say "Kohl's cash expired")

However, I've only used kohl's cash that is maybe one to two months past expiration, never more than that.

In my local stores, I have been told that I can't use it more than 1 day past the due date. Each store must have a different policy on how they handle expired Kohl's Cash.
