Kodak Easyshare Digital camera... help!

Another question about the Nikon. Is it the Cool Pix line? When you say 950 or better, is that referring to the model #? or some other spec?

sorry for all the questions, and Thanks for all the help guys!!!:D :teeth:

I agree with Gail, the docking station is only a marketing ploy. A USB cable does the exact same thing. Even the "share" button is available on this year's lineup from Kodak.

As far as refurbished items. I don't trust any refurbished item with movable parts, especially something as fragile as lens assembly (be it camera lens or laser lens).

Sincerely,
FatCow

Hi,
I purchased my 950 from refurbdepot. I did buy the extended warranty, and yes, like many who purchased it new it had a failure, which, the warranty took care of. IF they had not offered the extended warranty, which more than paid for itself, I would not have purchased a refurb.

You are the greatest! I have another ? I have seen them on ebay and they (most) say they are refurbished. Will I get a camera that is someones old one that has been remade? Is the warranty the same as new? How do you deal with it if you have problems? Would it be better to buy new from a brick and mortar?

Yes, you would get a refubished camera. I would not purchase one off ebay UNLESS you could get the extended warranty.
I did have a failure (after 2 years) with my 950, I sent it back to the people who sold the warranty to the dealer. It was back to me, as good as new, in about 10 days. No, the warranty on most refubished products is 90 days. That goes for just about anything. The warranty on a new product is one year. With a camera, which is so expensive to fix, I opt for the extended warranty.

It is from the cool pix line, it is the model. They have other models, ie: 990,995, 5000(my newest toy) and a quite a few others.

Thanks ZebraStripes! Is Buy.com a good site? I mean reliable? Are they NEW cameras? What has your experience been?
Thanks

I've been watching this thread as I plan to purchase the camera from Target (they have plenty at our store in Maryland!). We already have an older model Kodak digital camera, that we plan to give to my sister and her family and keep this one for ourselves. We love the one we have, but wanted something with an optical zoom. We also did not bother with the camera dock, I just always keep an extra set of batteries on hand.

I can attest to the reliability of buy.com - I've bought memory cards there as well as video games and sofware - they ship pronto and are very nice to deal with.

I am glad to hear some positive feedback about Buy.com. I have not done any research on it. The items are new, right? Or are the cameras refurbs too? I guess I need to do some reading;)

If anyone else has purchased a digital camera from any web site, please give your opinion on which one you bought and how the service was.

Thanks Guys:teeth:

Kimmie,
If you have your heart set on this camera, go to amazon.com
I have purchased off there and have been very happy.
They (one of their sellers) are selling this camera for 194.88. Office depot has it for 189.99. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...104-7997241-0006339?v=glance&s=photo&n=508048

Please, be aware that these cameras do not use standard memory cards. They have a special one, called a secure digital card. This would bother me. I prefer something that is standard and can be found easily and inexpensively.
JMHO, but, I believe you can find a much better camera for your money.

The office depot ad is to the right on this page.

If you do go to Amazon, do some research on the digital cameras they sell, they have ratings, features, etc.

Opps, I stand corrected, it is 209.00, but, it is not in stock.

why don't you join the hotwire savings club purchase 9 circuit city gift certificates = $225 - month end rebate 9 x $5 = $45 = 199.99 - 50 free gift card = $149.99 - month end rebate =$105 + tax + the left over amount you have on the 9th gift card, if it is an online deal order it throuh ebates and get a 2-3% rebate on top of all that!!!!!!!!!!!

Gail,

I don't have my heart set on this camera, it just looked like an easy camera at an easy price;) It was a good place to start, but I doubt that I will end up there. lol How do you keep it all straight!?

I am very interested in finding out which Nikon CoolPix would be a smart buy. I have seen the CoolPix3100 for $299 (average price). 3.2 megapixal 3Xoptical and 4Xdigital. I need to zero in on a particular model. What are your recommendations? I think lots of others would like your help too:teeth:

Hulabaloo,

Thanks for the suggestion, just not sure I want to do that at this time. Congrats on becoming a veteran!!:cool1:

You also may want to visit Digital Photography Review site. It's run by a British photographer and it's pretty much the pinnacle in DP review quality.

I send you a pm earlier today. :)
I like the cool pix 885 also. Here is a link for the info: http://www.refurbdepot.com/results2.cfm I like this cause you can add lenses to it, the kind that simply screw on.
Again, I have no problem buying from refurb, especially when the cost of the extended warranty is so low.

I have a Kodak camera, and I have never had problems buying memory cards - the kind I bought is called a multi media card. I've bought them on buy.com for a steal. Gail, are you saying the CX 6330 requires another type of card?

2003 and 2004 Kodak lineup are accepting both SD or MMC. Physically they are the same with slightly different protocols.

Don't ask me which is better.

The de-facto standard for digital cameras, however, is CF.

I would be careful buying electronics over the internet, lots are grey market, imported illegally and sold without a manufactures warranty. I'm not sayring refurb depot is one of those places, I had never been there before tonight, after looking at their products I'm going to throw you a curve ball.

OLYMPUS ULTRA ZOOMS 720 or the 740, if I remember correctly the 720 uses the smart media and the 740 uses the xd cards, both 3 mega pixel + and 7x and 10x OPTICAL zoom. When you look at a digital camera, look at the OPTICAL zoom number, not the digital, the bigger the number the closer to the action you will be, that 10x zoom is more than equivalent to 380mm zoom on an slr camera!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DIGITAL ZOOM DISTORTS THE IMAGE!

I am now on my 3rd digital camera (early adopter), I own the kodak dc 290 it was the very first 2.1 mega pixel camera on the market and was $1000 4 years ago, it was also in a BOND movie!
It is a work horse, still takes great pictures today, only if it had a better zoom! (3x only).

I also work for a company that requires people to wear blue shirts and khaki's to work everyday, I have been there for 11 years +!!!!! I'm now a corporate employee who gets DECEMBER OFF! Those use to be 2 very naught words when used in a sentence together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent advice about internet purchasing. I have used them once, and I have sent a couple of friends there also. They are wonderful to do business with. I did buy the extended warranty and it paid off. The camera came sealed from Nikon. All parts and pieces were there, no complaints and I would do business with them again in a heart beat. Yes, I do know the difference between optical and digital zoom. I purchased lenses to increase my zoom and wide angle capability . I am not sure digital distorts images, I have used that on occassion and have had very nice results. I can post photos if you would like.
In all honesty I detest Kodak products. I was a photo lab manager and between Kodak and HP cameras I was ready to tear my hair out. The return rate was horrible. I am a Nikon type of person, all my cameras are Nikon and I would find it difficult to change now. I subscribe to PTN and I read it religiously. I love the new Canon SLR digital, but, Nikon has one too.
