Although I like Nikon feel and ergonomics so much, when you blow it up real big (larger than 8"x10"), you will be able to see a bit of colour fringing with Nikon digicam.
I don't know whether it's caused by the optical or by the chip itself.
Regardless, it bothers me.
(PS: I don't know whether the above still holds true with current offerings from Nikon)
Minolta's blue chip have too much digital noise.
Kodak: too much red-push
Fuji: too much green-push.
Aaaaaaaaaaaargh!
So far I'm 'stuck' with Canon. However, Canon have the worst zoom (only 3x), which in most cases, I don't use anyway. I'm a wide-angle kind a guy.
Oh, and Canon A60/70/80 battery lasts me about 4 hours without recharging. This is with LCD on at all time, the ocassional flash (about 10%) and reviews.
Not to be contrary, but, you have mentioned ,a couple of times ,
the different color pushes. I have printed/processed a bunch of photos from Fuji cameras and have never seen green. Minolta, well, a little adjustment took care of anything that might be "noisy". Kodak, well, since we all know my feelings about that, we won't go there.

One of my biggest PITA customers had a very early Kodak model, he took pictures of his new baby and brought them to the lab to be printed. OMG, they were awful, grainy, pink/red (no adjustment could get that out), barely fit for the trash. I printed them, he hated them, (no surprise there) he told me I did not know what I was doing, I LOL, I then showed him another clients digital photos which I had also printed, (granted they were professional photos with a REALLY good camera, a digital model I would have to save for years for) and he almost choked. I told him to invest in something decent and then I could help him. Granted, I was not being very nice at this point, but, this guy was a pain and very arrogant.
I have enlarged my photos to 10x14 and 10x17 from my Nikon and have had very little or no "fringing" I think it is dependent on the setting for the photo. I use the highest setting, which I think is "fine" on my camera and have wonderful photos. In fact, we did a bunch of sizes to display what you could do with digital. Sold a LOT of digitals that way.

I think it also has a lot to do with the lab's equipment. I ran a Fuji 390 printer, wonderful machine.
If Nikon were to go out of business (God forbid) I would probably go to the Canon SLR digital. They are really wonderful cameras.
I don't worry too much about the optical zoom in the camera as I can attach lenses to compensate.
