Kodak Easyshare Digital camera... help!

I have a Kodak camera, and I have never had problems buying memory cards - the kind I bought is called a multi media card. I've bought them on buy.com for a steal. Gail, are you saying the CX 6330 requires another type of card?

Yes, if you go to Amazon, it will tell you what it uses. I like cameras with Smart Media or the defacto Compact Flash.

I've also been watching this thread closely. I am about to make my first ever digital camera purchase!I have always borrowed my moms cause she doesn't know how to run it anyway!LOL but it's now so outdated! It's a Sony something but it uses the floppy disks for storing pics. It has 10x optical zoom which I love but the picture quality isn't always the greatest. Well here's my situation, I have an outstanding credit of around $200.00 with www.hsn.com and I wanted to get a digital camera but I'm not sure if they offer anything that great. Can someone please offer me any advice! TIA for your help. I am willing to pay the difference for a more expensive camera I'm just not sure on which one. Also they won't offer me a refund only a store credit!!

Thanks again!

I knew about the optical too. Since I have talked to or read about it enough in the last week. YIKES, my head is spinning. This is the greatest place to get the info. Everyone has been great!:D

I am seriously looking at the Nikon CoolPix 3100. My price range and sounds easy! Who will change my mind next? LOL I am so easily swayed:teeth:

Although I like Nikon feel and ergonomics so much, when you blow it up real big (larger than 8"x10"), you will be able to see a bit of colour fringing with Nikon digicam.

I don't know whether it's caused by the optical or by the chip itself.

Regardless, it bothers me.

(PS: I don't know whether the above still holds true with current offerings from Nikon)

Minolta's blue chip have too much digital noise.

Kodak: too much red-push

Fuji: too much green-push.

Aaaaaaaaaaaargh!

So far I'm 'stuck' with Canon. However, Canon have the worst zoom (only 3x), which in most cases, I don't use anyway. I'm a wide-angle kind a guy.

Oh, and Canon A60/70/80 battery lasts me about 4 hours without recharging. This is with LCD on at all time, the ocassional flash (about 10%) and reviews.

Good job!!! I sounds like a winner to me. :) And, it does sound easy. And, you can purchase other lenses to use with it.

I would suggest a battery charger and extra batteries. www.sterlingtek.com is where I get my batteries, they usually have a decent price on them. I also get my extra compact flashes from them, they have a lifetime guarantee.

I found a price of 239.00 for it. http://store.yahoo.com/wellsdigital/25509.html

Good luck and let us know how you do.

kimmie, I've bought many things from internet retailers like Buy.com and Amazon.com. I've never had a problem with the quality of the merchandise. A few years ago I bought a 27" RCA TV from Buy.com and have never had a problem with it. If I happen to want to buy from a retailer I haven't heard from I usually read the reviews I find of the retailer, epinions or bizrate or someplace like that. Too much negative feedback and i usually stay away from them.

I just bought a Kodak EasyShare DX6340 from Amazon and am very pleased with it. I chose the Kodak because it had very few buttons and knobs and things that I didn't need in a first digital camera. An IT colleague highly recommended the CX6330.

Good luck!

Not to be contrary, but, you have mentioned ,a couple of times ,
the different color pushes. I have printed/processed a bunch of photos from Fuji cameras and have never seen green. Minolta, well, a little adjustment took care of anything that might be "noisy". Kodak, well, since we all know my feelings about that, we won't go there. :) One of my biggest PITA customers had a very early Kodak model, he took pictures of his new baby and brought them to the lab to be printed. OMG, they were awful, grainy, pink/red (no adjustment could get that out), barely fit for the trash. I printed them, he hated them, (no surprise there) he told me I did not know what I was doing, I LOL, I then showed him another clients digital photos which I had also printed, (granted they were professional photos with a REALLY good camera, a digital model I would have to save for years for) and he almost choked. I told him to invest in something decent and then I could help him. Granted, I was not being very nice at this point, but, this guy was a pain and very arrogant.

I have enlarged my photos to 10x14 and 10x17 from my Nikon and have had very little or no "fringing" I think it is dependent on the setting for the photo. I use the highest setting, which I think is "fine" on my camera and have wonderful photos. In fact, we did a bunch of sizes to display what you could do with digital. Sold a LOT of digitals that way. :) I think it also has a lot to do with the lab's equipment. I ran a Fuji 390 printer, wonderful machine.

If Nikon were to go out of business (God forbid) I would probably go to the Canon SLR digital. They are really wonderful cameras.

I don't worry too much about the optical zoom in the camera as I can attach lenses to compensate.

of the ones I saw there I would go with the Fuji FinePix 3MP Digital Camera/Recorder with 6X Optical Zoom
You are pretty much stuck with Fuji or some off brand. Fuji makes a nice camera, all three of my kids have one and they love them.
It is a little more expensive than your credit, but, it will be a nice camera for you. I would not buy my accesories there, however, the link I gave to Kimmie should take care of you needs. Also, ebay has a lot of "stuff" for cameras, so, it is time to shop!!!!!

Totally agree with Gail, in most cases, colour compensation will be able to hide/balance the colour perfectly. I'm just talking based on raw image pre-adjustments.

Here's a link of some piccies I took:

http://groups.msn.com/lafamigliadisusilo/shoebox.msnw

"Dukey's Canadiana" piccies were taken using a Fuji digicam 2MP
"Wal-Mart Session" piccies were taken using a Nikon digicam 5MP
"Dukey's Australia" (on page 2) piccies were taken using a Canon digicam 4MP

no picture was colour corrected.

Wonderful pictures!!!!! And that little girl is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! Great shots of her. which Nikon is that?

Thank you. Looking at my file, I was using the 5700 with external flash and diffuser on the flash.

Do you know about the Nikon D70? It's the Rebel Digital contender. Same innards as the D100!

I bought the Nikon CoolPix 3100 on line! It came to $258.95. I hope I did alright! I have lots of people to thank for all the advise and encouragement!

THANK YOU ALL!:teeth:

Can't wait for it to arrive!

I don't know much about it, I just read about it recently. There is no information that I can find on the Nikon website.

Have you seen the new Coolpix SQ, it is adorable.

That is wonderful, good for you. Where did you get it? When are you supposed to get it? I think you did fine. I am very happy for you and I hope you have hours of fun with it. Nikon has a web site where you can join, upload pictures and correct them.

And, then, we can all share your photos. :)

Perhaps a bit closer than me! North Stonington. Gone are the days of only having to worry about beach traffic on a Saturday and Sunday!

I got it through Wells Digital.com. Thanks for the link! I did check them out on biz rate and found very good things about them. They have an 800 number, so I felt good about that too. I went for ground shipping 7 - 10 days. I think shipping was $19.95 for that. The 2 - 3 days was $39.95. I really don't need it that soon, so I went with the ground shipping. They gave me a tracking number, so I will be checking on it regularly. lol

I am going to put your Nikon link in my favorites!;)

To those who are still looking into a digital camera, Wells Digital seemed to have the best prices overall.

I am really happy I could help. I checked prices right after you posted. They did seem to be a ok, otherwise I would never have provided the link.

I have an album on the Nikon site, just some "getting used to the camera" shots. Not quite sure if it will work, but, if you are interested, give it a try. The first two shots (and a few others) are with the Nikon 5000 the vast majority are with the 950.

I hear that!!! Only 6.5 miles away on rte.117 (the no so secret way to get there). Heck even Frank Sinatra went by my house. LOL

You said IT pro. Do you work at Pfizer?

Thank you so much Gail!! You really are such a great help on these boards!! I went ahead and ordered the camera you suggested. I have 30 days to try it out. Can't wait to get it!!
