Hi there,

I was speaking with an orginal member of the 1991 DVC team at the preview center last week and he let me know that they will be displaying the Ko-olina Resort rooms at the preview center in the coming months, no exact date was given.

He also mentioned that Eagle Pines was "dead in the water due to the new Four Seasons resort and that DVC were looking at a site, just looking at! on the seven seas lagoon in between the TTC and access roadway that the buses use to the MK.

I did get his name, but don't think it would be correct as were just having a freindly chat, he is not in sales.

PS We were staying at the VWL and the BLT look good with the scafold down at the rear corner. I will try to post a pic.:santa:

This fits with my understanding from my source. She indicated that DVC is interested in another all DVC resort on or near the seven seas lagoon. The STOL has always been up there as a good location.

Thanks for the news. Is that the preview center at SSR? So they'll have model Ko Olina rooms there soon?

:

Would that be Poly type?

I have heard that there's a tiny island out in the lake (near VWL) that has been tossed around as a probable spot for a DVC resort... I'm sure this will be WAY down the road.

I hope the Ko'Olina preview rooms are open by August...

Are you talking about where Discovery Island used to be? I doubt there would be enough land there to support any kind of footings for a real DVC structure.

Sorry. :confused3 I don't know what Discovery Island was or where it was.:confused3 We have a friend who used to be a CM...he knew about and confirmed the BLT resort to us before they started demolishing the old Contemporary wing (of course he didn't know what they would NAME it tho). He said that DVC is a good money maker for Disney and they have long range plans to grow it. They have plans in mind WAY before anything ever hits the DIS rumor mill. One plan is for this island somewhere (I don't know anything more than it's not far from MK and VWL) and he also mentioned they have enough land to develop a DVC near the GF one day and I took that to be that this land has been ear marked or tagged somehow for DVC's of the future.

Well Disney had better get busy building more parks then (or at least building on to the ones they have)! More DVC resort options sounds wonderful, IF there is a place to put all of those guests.

GF DVC? That's what I'm waiting for!!!:woohoo:

Hi there,

From the same person who I have spoken with before, and I repeat this was just chit chat, he continued to mention that Discovery Island was being looked at for a small number of wedding villas for newly weds.

We'd mentioned to our guide in early December that we'd be going to DL in July. He said to definitely look into the GCV models out there and that there would be a good chance that Ko'Olina would be ready as well. Yay!

How are we abbreviating Ko-Olina? KOV? KV?

Hmmm....I wonder how that's going to work out? The DVC models at DL were just big enough for one model I thought.

I think any Ko Olina Model will be at least a year away. Once the Grand Californian is sold out it only makes sense to replace those models with Ko Olina.
It is likely that Ko Olina will be purchased primarly by west coast buyers. I am sure it will be popular with all members in the long run, but it is a long expensive flight from the eastern Seaboard. Over 50% of all timeshares currently in Hawaii are owned by Californian's alone!

Westerners feel about Hawaii like Easterners feel about the Carribbean.

Now THAT makes sense, because there wouldn't be any big footings needed for small buildings.

I would think that anything like that would not be DVC. They might call them "villas", but I can't think they would fit very well with DVC. Unless they were used primarily by owners who gifted stays there for their newlywed children, I can't see wedding villas as a regular DVC resort! :confused3

Disney begins preliminary site work for project at Ko Olina

Advertiser Staff

Walt Disney Parks & Resorts has begun preliminary site work at its first family destination resort in Hawai'i at Ko Olina. This work includes excavation, laying underground utilities and establishing where the foundations will be placed, said Djuan Rivers, vice president, Disney Vacation Club and Resort, Hawai'i.

"This is an important milestone for the project, as we continue to look forward to sharing the magic of Disney with Hawai'i's residents and visitors alike," he said.

The resort is scheduled to open in 2011. The new family-friendly destination is planned to include 350 traditional hotel rooms and 480 vacation villas dedicated to Disney Vacation Club, Disney's rapidly growing timeshare business.

Plans call for an expansive pool and water play area, an 18,000-square-foot spa, a wedding lawn, an 8,000-square-foot convention center, a children's club and two restaurants, one with an ocean view.

Hawaii's not cheap from California either. We can get to Florida for much less. Hawaii is lovely, but I prefer the Caribbean myself, and I was born and raised in Los Angeles.
