still thinks they are in the dinosaur days or just can't seem to grip the "modern" world?

I have a friend that digs a hole in her backyard, throws charcoal in it, puts a wire thingy over it and BBQ's. She says, why buy a grill when the hole works great.

Another lady I know eats most her foods straight from a can cold!

lol dd says i am stuck in the dark ages when it comes to music of fashion ( bear in mind here that i was on stage with rem in the eighties, and own an uncle kracker cd,, )

BTW have to comment,, on yor name.. my dw's best friend and adopted sister is named cheri as well:)

I take it you do not know anyone that camps or is part of Boys Scouts? :p Sorry but the hole in the backyard with charcoal will produce better tasting food than a gas grill.

LOL, CajunDixie - I still can't see digging a hole in your own backyard. This same friend still has all the 1970 stuff all around her house. I went to high school with her and I swear nothing has been moved in 30 years inside her house. We are going to Disney (her first trip in Dec) and she said heck who needs hotels we can sleep in your van. LOL! She cracks me up all the time on stuff like this.

Froggy - I don't see too many Cheri's these days! I named my daughter Cherie.

I'm trying to help arrange my high school reunion and can't believe the number of people who DO NOT HAVE EMAIL.

Even my 83 year old father has had email for over 10 years.

What really scary is how many of these are teachers. Imagine a high school teacher that doesn't even know about email much less the internet.

well ya know we are in arkansas,, some times we have to live up to our reputaion:)

My FIL took a retirement package because he didn't want to have to start using a computer. He was under a lot of pressure at work to use one.

I graduated from the infamous Little Rock Central High School, but even though I am really old the problems there were before my time.

Lori

Same with my FIL! He did not want to use one at all.

He still will never use one, and is afraid of it.

My grandmother still has a black rotary phone.. her reasoning why use a push button and pay extra on the phone bill

Oh! This is one of my gripes with DS's private school. At his school in FL, they used schoolnotes.com where I could check on what homework was assigned, what tests are coming up on what days, what special things were going on. His school now doesn't do that! :earseek: :faint: I feel lost without it! DS certainly doesn't tell me what's going on. I received his report card today. I'm less than thrilled. It would be nice to be able to e-mail his teacher throughout the year like I did in FL. I wish his new school would get with the program!!!

ARMINNIE, what year did you graduate from central? I have 3 older sisters that went there. I graduated from McClellan in '83

You, Dan? I think they're mistaken! :teeth:

My MIL is VERY frugal. She NEVER buys canned vegetables, she cans all her own (grows them in her garden too), but when she opens say a jar of green beans, she refuses to toss the juices away. She'll store them in her fridge till she gets enough to make a soup with it. She also won't buy very many meats in the store. They eat lots and lots and lots of chicken and anything she can get cheap. She shops in the PX or Commissary (a 3 hour drive to the nearest one) to get things as cheap as possible. When she's in the store, she looks for the day old rack and buys tons and freezes it from there. This is mostly bread and consists of rye for $0.50 a loaf or wheat even cheaper! They NEVER eat out. If she has to make a long trip, she always packs food to take along so she doesn't have to pay to eat anywhere. Oh, I almost forgot, she also keeps a little dish in her refrigerator that consists of some sort of oil, so she can grease a pan when she needs to. She says, people who don't, waste so much! LOL

Now, I love her to death, so I'm not picking. She remembers the depression all too well I guess. She also would never purchase a computer, and she goes through her phone bill with a fine tooth comb. If it's off by $0.20, she'll call and request a credit. She does not own a CD player, let alone a DVD player of any kind. She only has a microwave because her kids(including my husband) buy it for her, and replace it when she starts saying she thinks she needs a new one. We bought her a gas grill one year, but they just won't use it. My FIL refuses to use anything but a charcoal grill.

I could go on and on, but I think you're getting the general idea. :) They do however tithe 10% of every dime they make.

My dad loves to go shop at this store that I call the "used" grocery store. They carry frozen baked goods that were originally offered fresh in markets 2000 miles away.

One time he came home with about 20 jars of mayonaise for 19 cents a jar - it was way out of date - 1998!! I'd bring home a jar of "new" mayo and toss one of his. He still thinks that we used it all up and saved a lot of money.

He also thinks that you can eat food that has been in the refrigerator for 3 weeks. He tried to cook some wilted lettuce one time so we "wouldn't waste it".

arminnie, you probably know 2 of my sisters. Marilyn Wilcox Hampton and Sandra Wilcox. Marilyn goes to all the yearly(?) reunions.

Oh, I know what you mean about not worrying too much about expiration dates. My MIL says, they only have to put that on there so they don't get sued, but it really means nothing. LOL We have several stores (all in different directions from us) that sell nothing really but expired canned goods or cereals. Just stuff like that. For Y2K, my FIL completely filled their spare bedroom with foods from these stores because he was paranoid the world was ending. He wouldn't even know how to turn a computer on, but he KNEW the world was ending? hahahaha Anyway, they have been trying to give all of that food away to anyone that will take it. They still have so much left. I only know, I DON'T WANT IT!

That wilted lettuce story though, I think takes the grand prize! :hyper:

hmm my dad is at his 1964 reunion tonight as we speak,, a few miles south f central high though, we are in crossett,, far s e corner, can relate though,, my baby brother is a programer for state dept of education, he has lots of problems trying to get schol districts to follow computer guidelines in arkansas,, its bad enough that u of a has to have a comp programmer on call 24 / 7 to repair student messes,,, the teachers and admin are his biggest headaches:)
