Well, we've decided to go after all. I am a little apprehensive about leaving me DDs (19 & 20 ), but they are in college, and I know they'll be fine. I just hate it that they're worrying about us. We took a long time coming to this decision, but decided that we needed to go for our own sanity (we both are in desparate need of a vacation), we want to help the economy all we can, and we refuse to let these evil men run our lives. Our hearts and thoughts are with all those who have and are continuing to suffer.
Here's our cast list:
Me: TC (Tom Corbett, space cadet: nicknamed that by DH when we were first married, I don't think I'm such a space cadet any more): Kelli, just turned 40, loves all things Disney, especially WDW!!
DH: Stephen, also 40, in real need of a vacation, also loves all things Disney (even has a Mickey pillow case on his pillow)
We have been planning this trip for a year. This will be our first trip without the girls. I am so looking forward to a very romantic two weeks.
We were going to fly, but with the events last Tuesday, we have decided to drive. That's good and bad. The bad: IT'S 30 HOURS TO ORLANDO FROM LONGMONT, CO!!! The good news: I get to see my oldest DD, my sister, her family (her son has just undergone major surgery at 4 mos), and I get to see parts of the US I've never seen before. Also, because we are going this weekend, we decided to stay til 9/28 so we can drive on the last weekend, thus extending the time at WDW by one day. Also, since all the new parades will be soft-opening the last week of Sept., we'll get to see them. We leave this afternoon at 2 p.m.
I have done a lot of rewards programs, and have made about $400 in GFs, disney dollars, and cold, hard cash. That is my mad money, and I will have a blast spending it.
We are driving my 2000 Beetle. Although my DH is 6'4", he fits quite comfortably in it. However, he is a little uncomfortable driving it since it's baby blue, has a Mickey antennae topper, and (at the moment) red, white and blue flowers in the bud vase. I told him he's always been very firm in his manhood, so what's the problem? It's the bug or his Harley, and my rear can't take that. My car is very noticable, so if you see a baby blue bug as described above, it's probably us.
All of our on property are from rented DVC points. We are staying at the Boardwalk Villas for 5 nights, then off property for a few days to check out IOA, and the surrounding area, then back on property. We stay at VWL for two nights then finish up at OKW. I am so looking forward to seeing all these different DVC resorts since we are seriusly considering buying DVC within the year.
We purchase annual pass vouchers about a month ago, so we will get to be in the parks as much as we want.
We have no PS scheduled, since it's off season, there are only two of us, and we're not big eaters.
We have an Illuminations Cruise scheduled for the first night we are there, but are unsure if we will be able to take it. The person who booked it lives in Germany, and may not be here in time. We'll see what happens.
I am so looking forward to getting away, and, I hope, despite the tragedy earlier this week, we will come home refreshed and recharged.
I'll post the full report upon my return.
