Kingdom Tower DVC at the Contemporary (Orlando Sentinel 2/26/08)

Also, I don't see why they won't announce sales as soon as they are sure SSR is sold out? Why wouldn't they want to take your money to help pay for construction?

Depends on when they can legally sell it. Florida timeshare laws require 70% of construction to be complete. AKV was sold 9 months before occupancy because the first building was complete (the Lodge itself) and they were just renovating rooms. Still, owners couldn't use the points until AKV was open for occupancy to protect the system from being flooded.

If, as the article suggested, they could offer it for sale now, it's still 18 months away from occupancy. That means you'd have owners buying a timeshare they couldn't use for another year and half. I doubt sales would be brisk then and probably would delay AKV sales.

More than likely, I'm betting we see an official Disney announcement later this Spring as we saw with GCV and Hawaii. The actual sales won't start until next winter.

In this situation, our OKW POS describes what would happen with a "Maximum Reallocation" of the points at a resort -

"...in the event of a maximum reallocation, A Club Member will always be eligible to reserve at the Condominium, subject to availability, at least one (1) Use Day in a one (1) bedroom Vacation Home for every thirty (30) Vacation Points and at least one (1) Use Day in a two (2) bedroom Vacation Home for every forty (40) Vacation Points. ... "

They are referring to the maximum change where every day would use the same number of points throughout the year - weekdays and weekends would be the same and all "seasons" would have the same point cost - thus a maximum reallocation of the collective points at the resort. Currently, at OKW, the points needed for a 1BR range from 16 points to 73 points - based on weekdays in Adventure Season to weekends in Premier Season. With a Maximum Reallocation there would be no difference throughout the entire year. (This is NOT likely to happen, but it is allowable per the POS.)

This figure would likely be different for other resorts. At OKW is it based on a minimum of 210 points for a stay of 7 consecutive nights in a 1BR. Compare that to the 273 reported as the "max" at KTCR or 252 at AKV, BCV and VWL.

The POS for each resort will have a similar explanation.

Thus far, I see nothing unusual in the explanation provided or in the information from the point chart mentioned in the article. The 273 points for the new resort would also be for the most expensive view 1BR - likely the MK view - and other views will likely be less (just as at AKV and BWV).

Stay tuned! :)

Thanks for this info Doc! ;)

This is true, however, what was the first thing that ran into your mind when you heard the name?

Babylon.

Specifically the Towers of Babylon. I was hoping they built those supports extra strong so it doesn't topple over.

IIRC Babylon was never Christian.

Just imagining the points chart, perhaps they should name it

Kingdom Tower of Terror.....

I was all set to buy at CRV....but now that it is named Kingdom Towers....absolutely NOT!
:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

j/k I was never really interested in buying ;)

Bocce ball is really big in South Philly.

Great news on the tower! That point chart could be scary. I imagine the per point cost will be higher than the other resorts as well.

that is probably the delay - figuring a fair point chart.

they have maximum and it is not completely out of line with the other dvc resorts.

I think the 70% includes all the pre work - plumbing that stuff - so it could be. It does not include or count the interior stuff - so maybe 70% of the outside is completely or will be - they are on 9th floor - so the 10th floor this week is definitely possible.

and there are STUDIOS!!!! :rotfl: :cool1: :yay: :woohoo: :cheer2:

Good news on the point charts. So if studios are not out of line from the rest of DVC, my future add-on is secured.

I honestly could never see staying at the place an entire week or in a big unit. High Rise living is not my thing. But a few days while doing the Halloween party. That would be fun.

Not every kingdom or king has to be Christian. It's a political distinction not a religious one. I think the name reflects more the proximity to Magic Kingdom. You know, the land of castles, princesses, etc.

Maybe to you.... to me it's just too close to Kingdom Hall or something that Jerry Falwell would build.

And I doubt I am alone.... .I promise when I first read this' headline" on the DIS I thought "They are building at church at Disney?"

The name does NOT invoke Magic Kingdom to me. (Maybe Magic Kingdom Towers would work, but just "Kingdom"????) Growing up the south the word kingdom capitalized like that was always a religious thing.

(And I am an Episcopalian... We don't really do "Kingdom"...LOL!)

Actually, AKV was announced about 9 months before it opened in July, 2007 but sales did not begin (to existing members only) on February 1, 2007 - only 5 months before opening. Sales opened to new buyers in March, 2007 whent the price also increased to the current $104 per point.

I would have preferred Disney Towers or Magic towers - but I can definitely live with kingdom towers.

of course I don't like the towers part.

who knows they changed Disney Vacation Club to Old Key West - if enough complaint - they may change it.

It has been rumored that several people in attendance at the point viewing collapsed and were taken to a local hospital. The points viewing was closed until an official with the Florida ride commission arrived to examine the points chart. The official could find nothing wrong other than the large number of points required to vacation at KTR, so the viewing was allowed to continue.

Thanks for the correction. My memory checksum is faulty. I thought AKV opened in Sept '07.

I do remember all the hype here when AKV was announced. I had just done my first add-on at SSR the month before. So considering I added on again today, the CRV/KTR charts should be out in another month.

I'd be happy for sales to not happen until next Jan/Feb.
