Kingdom Tower DVC at the Contemporary (Orlando Sentinel 2/26/08)

Here's a thought...would DVC ever start a completely new type of vacation club that would be completely separate from what they already have? The fact that the article listed this property as "more upscale" got me thinking about what would happen if they started an entirely new division that would not include previous DVC properties, but higher priced ones like the Contemporary (and maybe Hawaii) that they could sell at a much higher price per point and have higher point requirements for. It could be a way to compete with Four Seasons, etc.

They can accomplish the "more upscale" part by raising the point requirement, which it appears they have done. Wouldn't you consider AKV Concierge to be more upscale? I don't see where it does DVD any good to create a separate class of timeshare.

I'm not reading too much into that "more upscale" comment just yet.

I think the individual quoted was an industry analyst from Morningstar and it was just his prediction. If it were someone from Disney Vacation Development making the statement then I'd be more inclined to wonder what they had in mind.

The mention of a higher point schedule that was filed with the state is of more concern to me.:scared:

Look! I found the proposed point chart...

Fortunately, there'll be a new banking and borrowing rule that will allow you to combine vacation points from 30 different use years into a one-week stay.

Not entirely...AKL is one of the lower priced deluxe properties, so having a concierge level is definitely a nice change, but I wouldn't consider it that upscale.

I really hope Disney never does what I was speculating about, but I've just been a bit nervous lately about rumors concerning FP's only for deluxes, etc. To me it really does seem like they are looking for ways to separate the masses (so to speak).

Can we start a campaign to change the name?

KINGDOM TOWER???? Are they kidding?

I live in the Bible Belt.... Trust me this brings up visions of Oral Roberts, Jerrry Falwell etc.... Personally the name alone will make me afraid to stay there. I do NOT want to tell my friends I vacation at Kingdom Tower!!!

I am totally with you on this one- that was my first thought about the name too. Ick...

A barbecue pavilion will have about 490 square feet of covered area and a pair of picnic tables.

I guess they don't expect a lot of folks to eat outside! (maybe they will call that the Kingdom "Dining" Hall)

Yes and lets not leave out the Jehovah's.....Kingdom Hall;)
Kerri

That's the very first thing that came to mmind when I read Kingdom Tower. What is Disney thinking?

You missed the other MAGIC day...February 29th :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Jim,

You underestimate the power of Disney Marketing and the craziness of Disney Freaks. If DVC offers to put peoples' names on one of the building's bricks, they'll have people lining up tomorrow with checkbook in hand. ;)

Sure, they've been approved by the state to start selling.

But would you sell something at today's prices that you couldn't close for more than a year? Would you start selling this property if you thought it would torpedo your sales at SSR and AKV?

Would you buy, if you couldn't close and begin making ressies for a year and a half? Some probably would, but I think most prospective buyers would wait until a few months before it actually opens.

I wouldn't hold my breath for sales to commence. I think it will be a while, and I'm sure Disney wishes this news hadn't been uncovered...just like they wish all the other information on this "best kept secret" hadn't been discovered.

just talked to michael johnson and told him to add us to his list to call when we can start buying...he said he already has quite a list of people interested and will call "when" not "if" they start selling. i am so excited...let the saving begin:)

I hope not. I would be really angry w/ DVC for doing that, since they've already told us we could go to Hawaii the same as going to WDW.

It mentions walkway on the 5th floor will connect the tower.

What floor is the monorail on?

Just wondering....

4th if I recall correctly.

I really don't think that Disney is going to disappoint or disenfranchise current DVC owners. I do think the points charts will be at the top side of what's out there now, but I seriously doubt that the majority of membership will find them unacceptable. It's just not how they operate.

Now, we still don't know all the details and I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't something "different" about how Kingdom Towers operates, but I just can't see the powers-that-be making this too far flung.

Can we dare to imagine what DVC is going to look like 20 years from now? Hawaii, Mexico, Paris, Hong Kong, Tokyo, throughout the USA? As we age it seems more and more likely that DVC will be giving us more options as the beancounters at Disney have figured out that getting us to pay premium prices for buildings plus their expenses and then they get it all back for free fifty years from now is a pretty good deal.

Of course, since I love all things Disney - who cares? This is going to be fun.

That's when the home resort advantage is really going to mean something. When a great number of home resorts aren't in WDW, but everyone still wants to go there.

Per the points chart listed, I will only be staying MK View one-bedroom during premier season. It seems to fit with the name...
Oh, wait, wrong kingdom.

Although my oldest might be willing to let me turn him in, if it means a career with Disney..then I could do a Lagoon view stay ..:rotfl:
