Kindle with Special Offers - No Offers

We gave my daughter the Kindle Keyboard 3G with special offers for Christmas. She started an Amazon account, got it registered and was able to download a few books. We have not seen any special offers on it yet. When setting it up we subscribed it to special offers. There is supposed to be an option on the main menu to view special offers but that option does not show up either. We also gave the same Kindle to my MIL. As soon as she logged into her Amazon account and registered it, the special offers showed up immediately. Any ideas on why we can't see the special offers on my daughter's Kindle?

It's possible they sent you one without the special offers. We had to return one for my son once. He did not have the special offers one but they sent us that one in replacement. I had to call them and they were able to reset it to remove the ads.

I would consider it a bonus if hers doesn't have the ads on it and that's the price you paid for it.

Exactly! We paid to not have the offers on DD11's new Kindle. I didn't think it was worth the money to remove it, but DH did. He was definitely right! Every time she opens it, she is thrilled to see what picture is on there. (I have no idea why. They are boring b&w pictures of pens, pencils, and fonts. Weird kid.) I can only imagine what her reaction would have been to ads. No ads is a much better thing for kids.

I didn't have any ads on mine until I forced it to update to the new software. I don't mind the ads and have used a few of them ($5 off $10 Amazon purchase, .99 book, etc)

Kindle customer service told me they can see that it should be getting the special offers but they can't figure out why the offers are not showing up. We were given the options of returning it to the store where we bought it (Target) or sending it back to Amazon and they would replace it. They did say that if we send it back we may receive a refurbished one instead of a new one. We may just hold onto it. If the offers eventually start showing up, I wouldn't mind. I have heard that some have been very good ones. They did credit my daughter's account with $10 to use on digital services so she could order some books.
