Kindle vs Nook

For those who use the Philadelphia Library what is the wait time like to get the books? I looked at my library and the selection of books wasn't great and every books had at least a 10 person long wait list. I would rather buy the books than wait for 5 months. Is the pay service at Philadelphia the same way?

They are not the Netflix of books, they are the Napster of books. THIS is what DRM was designed to prevent, not converting a book or books you legally purchased or lawfully downloaded from the library to read on one of your own devices. I would be concerned for anyone who has used their site to obtain books.

I actually agree. You're getting a book that you are allowed to read, and you're just making it so you can read it more easily. I'm not an authority, but I do agree with that.

Truly, though, you should be concerned that once the feds shut down and investigate the site they'll have your personal information as someone who's received pirated literary works.

I remember how scared DH's friends were in the Napster aftermath. Those guys had downloaded tens of thousands of songs, and were freaking out. Nothing ever happened to them, but they didn't realize it was wrong until the news told them it was, and they were scared!

I guess it depends on the types of books you're looking at. The newer ones usually have a pretty long list.

Check out overdrive.com philly 19103 zip code.

And you can look at the books you're interested in plus the waiting list of people.

For anyone here who is a resident of New York State, you can get a NYC Public Library card. You can fill out the application and when you receive your card you have to visit a NYC library to activate it. This is the main reason I chose the nook over the kindle, free library books.

As predicted... M-Edge has reduced the price of its Guardian case to $39.99... lots of other K2 items on discount, too.

:goodvibes

WooHoo! I'm so glad I waited to buy it.

I bet M-edge is now kicking themselves for taking so long to get this out on the market. I think they only had 2 months of sales before Amazon went and changed the Kindle. I know a lot of people totally gave up on it by the time they did start selling.

It's still a toss up for me kindle vs Nook

I want the library book capability but I have a personal hatred against B&N

However, in the past few weeks there has been news that B&N is for sale and the company is having issues financially.

Would this impact anyone else in the Nook vs Kindle decision?

For me personally it would impact my decision. Who knows what the purchaser of B&N will do.

This definitely impacted my decision. I was really not comfortable with buying a devise from a company that may no longer exist or at least not in the way we are now familar.

I wish I could have waited... but frankly, it was worth the price to have it for the beach and the lake and the pool all summer!

Borders has an ereader that will start selling on Sept. 30. You can preorder it now.

The Velocity Cruz Reader will be sold for 199.00. It states it will have internet capability and ability to show videos, and play music as well as being an ereader.

Both the Cruz Reader and Cruz Tablet uses ePUB, TXT, HTML, PDB, and PDF files.
You can also access pdf files, word files and excel files on both.
You can also load pictures on them, JPEGs, GIFs, PNGs, and BMPs are all supported.
Both have a backlit screen.

The Cruz Tablet is an advanced version for more money, a micro cruz tablet which will be 299.00. It has an Android operating system. You can watch videos, play music, play games and email on it.

These two sound like they will be giving the Kendle3 some stiff competition.

It sounds like I might have just convinced myself to get the Cruz Reader.

My new Kindle 3 came yesterday - it's adorable! Perfect for taking in my purse and leaving my Kindle DX at home. They've redesigned the keyboard a little and the toggle is now a middle pad with a 4 way control - I like it better than the DX and wish they'd had this new design on the DX as well.

Previous and next buttons on both sides, but very slim and only marked by arrows - took a sec to figure them out but then easy breezy. A few other menu changes that are simple to learn if you've been a Kindle user and fairly intuitive if you're new.

Love it!! Can't imagine why anyone would buy any product other than Kindles - they keep innovating and exceeding the competition and customer service is the very best.

I would expect that due to Kindle's limited ebook format, people are still going to look to other ereaders. Many people want the option of purchasing and borrowing ebooks from various sources instead of having to only get them from Amazon.

Maybe some people, but not me!!!

Oh cool!! I ordered mine about the second week in August, so my K3 will not be here until sometime in September. :sad1: It will give me time to find the perfect case... though I'm sure I will purchase another Oberon. My 9th grade DD will get my K2.

Like you, I absolutely love my Kindle, couldn't see owning any other e-reader. My kindle combined with my iPad, I feel I have all my bases covered. :goodvibes
