Kindle vs Nook

VERY interesting article.....

Our household has 2 Kindles- DH loves his!!

I am considering getting a kindle, what does everyone recommend to protect it. Do you need a protective covering for the screen? What is the best way to protect it.

Thanks

Great in-depth comparison of the current e-readers.

It's a long video but if you are considering purchasing an e-reader it's a GREAT look at 4 of them (Sony, Kobo, Nook, Kindle)

Enjoy!

This is an awesome video and it just reinforces my findings and decision to buy a Kindle. The user interface is so much easier than the Nook. The ability to check out library books just didn't make up for the Nooks shortfalls IMO.

In my case, I have a Decalgirl skin, an Oberon cover and a Borsa Bella E-reader bag. They do make screen protectors but I haven't found the need to put one on.

I have had my Kindle for about 8 months and I LLLLLLLLOOOOOOOVVVVVVEEEEE it. :lovestruc:lovestruc

If you have an android based phone, you can download the Kindle app and read your current book on your phone. Your phone and Kindle will talk to each other.

For example, I am currently reading New Moon on my Kindle. I downloaded the app last night onto my EVO at a restaurant and within 5 minutes, I was reading the book at the exact spot I left off on my Kindle at the night before. I read it at the restaurant for about an hour and when I got home, the Kindle took me to the place I had left off on my phone. This will be awesome for the times I find that I have to wait unexpectedly.

This has been a very informative thread. I really want an e-reader but I am very curious about the other costs involved... how much for a typical book download? I read a lot of Nora Roberts and similar authors if that helps you to answer this question. Are there like book clubs you can join to help with some of this cost?
Thanks in advance for your help and advice!!

I love Decal Girl! The matte skins are fabulous! My neighbor works for Skin-it and brought me several freebies, but I really prefer Decal Girl. I use an M-Edge cover and the Hipster style Vera Bradley bag. Like I need another excuse to buy accessories!!

:lmao:

I joined kindleboards.com after getting my kindle and their accessories board has been a killer on my wallet.

I've found they range between $6.99 $8.99 (older titles) and $9.99-$12.99 (new releases).

I got the Sony because it allows me to download them from my local public library for free.

Go to inkmesh.com and search for your favorite authors.

If you see most of your books with better pricing outside of amazon I would suggest you go with Nook or Sony.
If the majority of your fav authors have better pricing on amazon, stick with Kindle (but that's only if you don't do library books).

Ok, with the Nook, can you get books from the library too? How much does a Nook run? I am thinking that may be the route I want to take then, I've seen the Kindle and it looks pretty slick. I have never seen the Nook. Does anyone have pics of these?? I know... go online and check them out, right?? I suppose I should do that.

Oh and the Nook runs $10 more than the Kindle; $149 for WiFi only and $199 for 3G+WiFi.

packing for a weekend away, filled the nook with library books and for the first time ever, not packing a single book. Love it, love it, love it!

Yes, Nook, Sony, Kobo do library books.
Only Kindle still refuses to use open format... go figure

Install ADE on your PC and sideloading library books are a breeze.
I pretty much sideloaded library books to my Nook within 4hrs of receiving it :thumbsup2
And 3.5hours of it was to charge the device.

Do your research before you get your Nook (check your overdrive library collection, install ADE, etc.) and you'll be up and running in no time. Like I did :cheer2:

WOOHOO!!
I can't wait for our trip too... I already have some ideas how many books I'll be bringing in my Nook... :)

Just got my nook today and already loving it!!!!
Have spent way too much on books and now downloading all sorts of free books too!!!
