Okay, I just want to make sure I understand this... I ordered my Kindle from Amazon yesterday (no, not the lightning deal :(). I can start ordering books NOW, and they'll be on the Kindle when it gets here? That's how it sounds according to the e-mail I just got, but I thought I'd confirm it with actual Kindle owners? Thanks in advance!!

You can download the app on your pc, order the books now, and when you turn your Kindle on and sync it via wifi, the books will be there. Just got our Kindle a few days ago and I'd been downloading books to my PC for a while now-all free ones. When we synced the Kindle they all showed up.

You don't even have to download the app for your PC. When you get your Kindle and start it up, all of your books will wirelessly download. Fun!

yep, order books now and they will be on the kindle when it arrives.

Love my kindle, wish I could have gotten the deal for my mom so she could love it too. :lmao:

They'll be there. I bought one for my mom's birthday in August. Since I bought it on my account, every time I bought a book for myself, I had to double-check that it was going to my Kindle. For some reason, it kept trying to default to hers until it got here and I could tell the Kindle that it belonged to another person.

Don't download too much - you will find the prices of the books fluctuate. :thumbsup2

Amazon reduces the price of certain books all the time. Who knows the methodology by which the titles are chosen but you can get some great deals if you click 'buy' when the price is $0 or close to it. Samples are also free. I use the 'download a sample free' option a lot when I am trying to determine which book on a particular topic to buy... like running or geocahing, or what have you. Helps me decide which writing style I like best.

Thanks! I'm only "buying" free books for now, anyway. All those classics we were supposed to read in school? I missed a lot of them, or forgot. And I'm sure I never read 'Wizard of Oz'!

They'll be there once you turn on your wireless. Once you do that, they'll appear in less than a minute.

You should keep your wireless turned off (except when you're actively buying/downloading books) because it eats up your battery.

My SIL just bought one for my 8 y/o neice that loves to read. Is there really a good gift for an 8 y/o??

My DH just purchased the Kindle as my xmas present  I'm so excited, can't wait til Christmas morning. I'm going back to the Amazon website - I have no idea on how to download books???? Any tips.

I feel like an expert already :teeth:

Downloading books is easy. Go to amazon.com; in the "Shop All Departments" tab, one of the choices is, naturally, Kindle. One of the choices in that category is ebooks. Click. TONS of choices. On the right-hand side is a list of best-sellers. One tab is for priced books, and the tab behind it is for free books. While many of those are public-domain (the copyright has long expired), many are new, too. In addition, there are a lot of inexpensive books.

In another thread, somebody posted this site www.ereaderiq.com/free/ which updates free books (and sometimes games) whenever they become available.
