Kindle library book question

my town is part of a library network, not sure if that gives me access to more Kindle books or not. When I first got the device (5-6 years ago) there were longer waits and not as many newly released books as there are now. How long I have to wait depends of course on when I request the book. New feature is to "recommend" a title and when the library gets it I am automatically put in the queue. I also love the feature to filter by books that are available immediately if I am looking for something to read right away.

Love my Kindle e-reader even more now than when I first got it; will buy another one for sure when it finally dies.

I love my kindle and the free library books. I turn my wifi off all the time to keep the books longer. Mine is a wifi only, so I do think turning on Airplane mode for the other ones should work. There are several library books that never returned and I can still see them over a year later. Could never figure that out. I always wondered if I somehow made them go out of circulation to others? I am really not sure how all that works.

The books that never went away are books that the publisher designated as non-DRM. Overdrive normally uses Adobe Digital Rights Mgmt software to manage the circulation of ebooks, that is what controls the lending period time. However, if the publisher requested no DRM on the title, then they won't expire.

I have two kindles yet I don't know anything about this supposed Kindle library service. Is it free?

The service is called Overdrive; it is paid for by your public library. You may use it if your local library has an account, and if you have a borrower account at your library. Check with your local public library for more details.
