I've got a Kindle Fire on the way. :yay: When it gets here, what are free or cheap things I can put on it? Where are the best places to get books and music and apps? I'm a COMPLETE novice so please help!

I have the Angry Birds app on my cell phone, otherwise I don't have any experience with apps or anything. I don't even use an ipod currently. I want this Kindle loaded with lots of stuff to keep me occupies on long flights (8hours!) Maybe some stuff for the kids too--but they have Nintendo DS and an ipod touch for movies.

I got my KF not too long ago but I have already put some cool (and free!)apps and books on it.

First thing I did after I ordered mine was to go on Amazon and see what they had - just so I would be prepared ;). They have a free app a day (today's is Monopoly) and a book daily deal (usually .99). Not sure about the apps but I know that if you see a book you like you can buy it before you get your Kindle - it goes on your cloud and when you register your Kindle it automatically downloads whatever you have in it to your KF.

I have Angry Birds (of course ;)), Greedy Spiders, Hangman, Random Mahjong and Solitaire free pack- all free.

The other games I have have been from the free app of the day - Monopoly, Fruit Ninja Puss in Boots edition, Little Piano Pro, Drawing Pad, Kung Fu Panda holiday (kid book), Charlie Brown Christmas (kid book), Night of the Living Dead Defense, Where's My Water and Word Pop. As you can see they have a good variety of games you can get for free - just check everyday! The highlighted ones DD(9) really enjoys playing with :thumbsup2

If you want to download movies to watch on the plane - which you cannot do with Amazon since it is all in the cloud and requires WiFi - I found this cool site that shows you step by step what to do.

Amazon has a bunch of free books (classics and out of copyright) plus they also have free short stories - I have found some good up and coming authors from the free short stories and the "Kindle Singles" section.

I have about 30 books, 35 apps, some music and a movie all in my KF at all times (w/o needing WiFi just in case) and it has not made a big dent in my memory.

I subscribe to "Pixels of Ink" on facebook. They tell you when books are free or cheap. I have discovered many new authors by going for those free books.

You can purchase and download movies from Amazon to the Kindle Fire. I purchased Cars 2 this morning and downloaded it (not streamed, its actually on the Kindle now) My daughter has been watching it in the car. Not all movies can be downloaded but most can.

If you check out the Kindle ebook store on Amazon.com, they have a list of the top 100 best seller and free ebooks. The books are always changing. I've gotten quite a few great books that way if I just want something to read.

Amazon account.

Every day they have a new free app.
You can get 3 versions of Angry Birds (Regular, Rio and Seasons).
You can Words With Friends (from Facebook).
My current favorite is Plants Vs. Zombies. As addicting as AB! :rotfl:

How do I go about finding the free game and book deal of the day? For some reason, I am having a hard time figuring this out :confused3.

I am a big fan of Pixels of Ink as well. I check it everyday for new free books!

If you buy a movie it downloads? But if you want a free prime it is just in the cloud? Trying to figure this out myself!

Thanks to everyone for the great ideas! I got a K. Fire for Christmas and have just barely scratched the surface! :)

Thanks for the great links! I'm going to have fun checking all these out over the long weekend!

There are so many free or nearly free books on Amazon, I check the 100 top list every day as it changes all the time. I have bought a book and a few days later seen the same book now on the pay list for a few dollars (or more)
And yes that daily fee app, my Dh has gotten a few for his tablet. Don't forget word search games, suduko and such are alot of fun too.

I get a daily email from www.kindlenationdaily and I just love it! Lots of info about all the kindles from e-readers to the Fire. Info about apps, books, upcomming authors and so many free/nearly free books. Many are different than what amazon lists. just subscribe to it and you will be glad you did!

I got a pile of amazon gift cards for christmas, I want a Fire, but I want to read peoples reviews first and maybe wait till the 2nd gen comes out. Love my Kindle touch, hope you enjoy your Fire!

on Amazon - if you go to the page Amazon Store - at the top you can click on "discussions" and one wonderful poster every day has posted "FREE BOOKS" and lists the date - she has also started listing the free ap of the day for The Fire - dd liked today's ap ok - some days it may just be a children's book...

(do be cautious as some books do NOT remain free for long - others do, but some do not)

Also since there have been over 300 free books each day for at least a week she posts the site where she finds the deals -

I enjoy www.ereaderiq.com for freebies, as well if you add a book you are hoping will go down, it will send you an email!

Thank you so much for sharing this information!!! We got DD a kindle for Christmas - and I am delighted that she read 2 or 3 books this break. She has just downloaded a couple of freebies!:cool1: And...nice for her to "get used to checking out the free sites" before she heads off to college!

Great resources! Thanks again! I spent hours filling up my KF with apps and books for me, DH, and the kids!

finally went to library to get pin codes for kids so they can download ebooks FREE. So easy.

:cool1:

kids love where's my water
