Kindergartener suspended for making gun shape with his hand

This is about the most ridiculous thing ever. How stupid and politically correct are we as a country going to go?? Little boys (and heck, little girls, too!) like to play cops and robbers or cowboys and indians (do kids still play that??). There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, and it does not lead to violent behavior later in life. This kid was being a normal little boy.

ITA agree. I do remember when my DS was little I tried to isolate him from toy guns and things, despite my DH being an avid hunter and our having a number of locked guns in the house. I will never forget when my DS was about three and eating a peanut butter sandwich for lunch one day. I looked over at him and he had bitten his sandwich into the shape of a gun and was pretending to shoot it. I gave up and realized that this was in his DNA. DS is now 16, has had his gun safety class, and enjoys deer and bird hunting with his dad (DH). He has the sweetest disposition and has never showed any inclination toward violence. Heck, he still tells me he loves me (and in front of his friends too!)

Oh geez...I guess I shouldn't have allowed my talent show kids to pose like Charlie's Angels (with fingers shaped like guns!) for a photo! Oh noes!

It won't be long before children will be suspended for having a rock in their pocket.

:rotfl: When I worked in child care, we had pb&j sandwichs and veggie soup for lunch every Friday. Did not matter how we cut those sandwiches, it didn't take 5 minutes until one of the boys was pointing their sandwich at someone saying pow pow pow! Not one of those little fellows grew up to be violent or dangerous.

I got a call from the principal this year b/c my ds (1st grade) made a finger gun. The kids were playing rock paper gun instead of scissors. He was called into her office for a talk and I of course told him he couldn't say the word gun or point anything at anyone at school ever again. And that was the end of it.

I think it's dumb. There must be some kind of protocol to follow after the 'incident'. but I do think it is possible something awful can happen to a good kid based on an innocent mistake. that is the real crime.

A rock could be a blunt weapon you know. They may get the idea to hit someone over the head with it. Maybe we better lock up all the kids LOL

With me, it was a slice of toast. DS was 3, just like yours. We had been to Disneyland 6 months or so before, and I fully blame Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters ride! I am not the biggest fan of guns (though I've shot targets before, I think...I've at least been to a shooting range with brother and former stepdad..I've definitely shot a BB gun) and I just thought "no guns", but then when he did that, I realized it was a lost cause.

And I'm so so so glad we homeschool, because I just could NOT handle this! I'm sure DS at 6 will be different than at 5.5, and he knows rules, but this would be "things you do with your hands", and it took ME long enough to stop biting my nails (something you do with your hands) as a teen/adult, let alone having a little kid stop doing something that's *fun*!

Oh noes, I contributed to the delinquency of minors when our wedding photog had me and my half sibs do that pose! My sis was only 9!
