Hi!! I am new to the forums so if I am posting this question in the wrong forum, please feel free to move it where it belings!!

My DD is in kindergarten and when we told her teacher we were going to Disney for a week (in 3 weeks) she asked if my DD could do some homework to bring back to class. She would like her to keep some kind of "journal" to share with the class when she gets back. I am not creative in any sense of the word so I need help. I would like this "journal" to be something that my DD will keep for a lifetime so I would like it to include photos and anything else to preserve the memories.

Can anybody (and everybody!!) give me some ideas on how I might help DD make "the journal of a lifetime"??!! Thanks so much in advance!!

Terri

I printed out a great journal from disney dollarless web site. They have several differnt type pages that you can print out that has lines and promps that your child can use. Good luck.

We did just that with our son! He still likes to pull it out and look at it!
I recommend going with a large size hard cover journal-they are sturdy and will hold up to alot of abuse. Go for the larger one as they are easier for little ones to hold open and you can also put draw and add maps in.
I had DS do a title page and color it in.
Each night before bed he did a short little paragraph about the day-what we saw/did and then he to draw a picture to go with what he wrote about. Also add in the park map or any other memorabilia from that day.
Don't forget to do a page for the travel/at the airport ect. Most airports have a website where you can print a map of the airport. This is also great for giving kids a sense of direction. We joke that our son was the guide on that trip as he loved to have the map and figure out where to go ect!
You can then decorate the journal with stickers!
I also didn't push the journal as being homework but more as a memory book ( I suppose it didn't hurt that I also write in my travel journal as well!).
Good Luck!

I'd suggest that you ask the teacher if "dictated entries" are acceptable. You'll find that your DD will produce far less content if she must write it all in her own hand. (Both of my kids would write wonderful things when allowed to dictate, but minimal efforts if they had to do it longhand.)

We had to do that too. It was one sentence and then she had to draw something...let me find this great link that you can print out pages to write on decorated with Disney....

It has a ton of neat stuff...
Just click on the left side underdown loads to find what you need or want. It makes a great addition to a scrap book!

I was thinking the same thing. I will have dd (5) write one or two sentences and then I would write the rest.

She can illustrate.

I printed out these sheets for my dd's as well :) I plan to "take dictation" from my little one, but my older dd can do her own and take it to school for show and tell. Also I think it wil be lots of fun when they are older to look back and see what their feelings were about their trip. I agree with not presenting it as "homework" - tell her you want her to always remember what a wonderful time she had :) You really do forget the details if you don't write them down! And yes, I'm another one who keeps travel journals, and I do have fun going back to read them.

I plan to take just the sheets with us and put them in a 3 ring binder when we get home. I got the kind with the plastic sleeve on the front so you can insert your own cover sheet. The girls can draw a picture or put postcards in it, etc to make a personalized title page :)

I agree...you can get a large Sketch Book or Journal from Barnes and Noble or Borders... I would get stickers and some neat pens to make it fun...I don't have kids but used to work with them...the more fun something is the more they are apt to play with it...I'd throw in a glue stick and let the child decide what pictures she likes...print them up after and have her do her journalling about the photo-it might be done after the fact but then at least she will have her own memories journalled-could be one of those fun things when her boyfriends come to meet the family!!! *laugh*

...and don't forget the pictures. Let your child take some of her own pictures with a throw away camera to add as well. This will really make it special and something she will want to keep for a lifetime.

I don't have kids, but isn't kindergarten the time you learn your ABC's. Could you do an ABC book where each page is a letter and your DD could find something that started with that letter? She could then write about it, draw it, take a picture, etc. That might be a way to incorporate class concepts in her "homework".

I have seen lists from other's with ideas for each of the letters, so if you are interested in that, maybe someone has the list. Just another idea to throw out there.:Pinkbounc

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

With so many wonderful ideas I'd better get going on having my DD decide just how she would like to do this!! She is actually really looking forward to doing this project to share with her class!! (If you can believe this, she didn't want to miss school to go to Disney. She loves school that much!! This project was what made it OK for her to miss a week!!)

Thanks again everyone!!!
