This past Friday, I told my kids (3 & 5 yo) that if we all took naps, we'd go out to dinner and go to DL for a couple of hours to ride a few rides. My husband was out of town so I thought I'd do something with the kids. Well, we didn't wake up from our naps until 6:45 p.m.! I had to keep my promise so we wound up at DL the last hour of operation (9:00 p.m.)
There was a man standing in front of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, alone. He was in his late 30's, maybe early 40's. I figured he was waiting for someone. When we passed him in line, he was staring at my kids. It bothered me but with my kids being mixed race, I understand there is sometimes a curiosity. A minute or two later, I noticed he was standing in line right behind me, alone. My gut gave me a very bad feeling. I glanced at him a few times to size him up. He didn't look like a typical tourist; no camera or any bags, backpacks, etc. He was carrying nothing.
We got off the ride and I quickly walked my children to Pinnocchio. As we were walking through the queue area, I noticed he was right behind me again. I was really concerned that he was either going to snatch one of my children or follow us out to the parking lot and abduct one or all of us. At that point, I kept turning my head to stare him in the face. I wanted him to know that we weren't going to be easy victims and that I was watching him. I couldn't enjoy the ride because I kept my eye on him throughout the ride. As we exited the ride, I walked toward Dumbo, holding my children's hand tight, with my head turned back looking right at him. He then walked the opposite direction
past Casey Jr's train and out of Fantasyland. Even though he left, I kept looking for him while on Dumbo to see if he would return. I never saw him again although I kept looking for him even as we were loading onto the parking lot tram.
Maybe he never intended to do anything evil but my gut told me otherwise. I just thought it was really odd that a man that age was alone at Disneyland in Fantasyland. He didn't look like a park visitor out to enjoy the rides or the ambience. I would have spoken to a cast member, but it seemed the danger had passed but I still needed to be alert.
Talk about taking the magic out of Disneyland!
