Kim's maintenance rollercoaster. Wanna ride along? (all are welcome)

Are you liking the BL workouts? Is Jillian making you cry and say "I'm worth it!"

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

That is too funny! The one I have is from the first season of BL, with just Bob. He's nice to look at, that's for sure.

Kim, i totally feel your pain about your last run -- i tried too - and just quit after a mile.. I thought since i didn't run since Sat.'s 5k, that i would be on this high -- ya right. I was sore, and not into it.. so i understand where you are coming from. ;)

I know what you mean, Stacy. I don't know what's happened to me. I'm all sore and sluggish. :headache: I plan on heading out around 8am tomorrow morning for a run (probably a run/walk) before we head out for brunch. WISH me luck.

Just wanted to post a dad update. Since his surgery last Tuesday, he's needed 2 blood transfusions and his "levels" are low in just about all categories. They're keeping a close eye on him, but his spirits are really down. The poor guy is never a by-the-book case. Always complications. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers that he recovers soon and is able to go home to heal. :guilty:

Prayers & pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: for dad. Hope he's back on his feet and home soon.

Have a great Mother's Day! Enjoy your brunch and your run!!!

Oh, Kim. I'm sorry to hear that your dad is having such a rough time of it. It's been too long since I donated blood...not that it will do your dad any good personally, but I'm going to see about finding a local blood drive and donate a pint in his honor. I hope he feels well enough to go home very soon.

Sounds like you guys might be in a post-race slump. Have you looked at the weekly thread here the weeks after the marathon? It's not easy getting back into it after a big goal race. I hope your run/walk is great tomorrow, Kim! You'll find your groove again - I know it. :)

Thanks so much, ladies. Dad is doing better today. The last transfusion must've done the trick. :cool1: He's still got a long way to go, but I definitely feel much better today about his situation.

As for me, my mother's day was great. Slept in a bit, got some GREAT gifts from the kiddos & DH. (ipod nano and homemade goodies  ) We went to brunch with my sisters, nephews, mom and grandmom (dad's mom). Then DH, the kiddos and I all went to see dad. We came home and all snuggled up on the couch and watched a few Disney World shows we had DVR'd. Then around 2:30 I mustered up the energy to get out there for a run. My goal was to run 30 minutes before having to walk. It was beautiful running weather...cloudy and low 60's. Anyway, I ended up running 3.75 miles in 42 minutes. :goodvibes No walking until I hit my driveway. It wasn't an easy run, I was feeling aches and pains almost the whole way. But mentally, I just couldn't walk. :headache:

Well, it's logged and it's done. Hopefully I'll feel better on the next run. :thumbsup2 Have a great week, all!

ETA - Corinna, you're right. I definitely need to sign up for another race. I'm considering a 10k....hmmmm

Kim,
I'm so glad your dad is doing better. It sounds like he's on his way to recovery, even if there is a long way to go.

Your Mother's Day sounds really nice. I'm glad you got such a rockin' run in, too! I can't tell if you were happy with it or not. It sounds like you just got out there and muscled your way through it. It's something to be proud of, even if it wasn't enjoyable at the time, eh? And I bet the next one will feel better.

I don't think I said you needed another race, did I? Not that that's a bad idea, and not that I haven't suggested that before. It does help to have something to strive for. And personally, though I've never raced one, I am partial to that 10K distance.

P.S. - you're right that there's nothing wrong with Bob! He's a handsome guy, for sure. I did not love his blue team this past season, and didn't think they brought out the best in him, either.

Kim, Glad your dad is doing better!!

Sounds like your mothers day was great -- gotta love those home-made goodies -- somehow, no matter what they "buy" the home-made stuff rules anyday!! I have a great pile from my dd too - need to get something to store it in.

Congrats on your run yesterday --- you got back out there and had a great timing!

Hey Kim! Whew. I'm back on the boards now after an exhausting week at WDW! ;) I am so glad to hear your dad is doing better!

Way to go on your 5K!!! You had an awesome time!!! CONGRATS!

Stacie

Add to the list of people who's glad to hear your dad is doing better. I've been thinking about him, and you of course.

Very happy about your Mother's day. Who doesn't love the homemade goodies, and a nano is nice too! Watching Disney shows and snuggling is a nice cap to the day, too. I do it with cats, but it's not the same thing.

I'm sorry to hear about your problems getting back into running post-Minnie. You're definitely showing your mental toughness, and I hope the physical part gets easier for you. I do think it's the post-race blues and part of the recovery process (and suspect it's harder with the Disney aspect to add to the mix). But your pace is great and I suspect you'll get back in the groove soon!

Happy Mother's Day, Kim!:flower3: It sounds like you had a great day yesterday!:goodvibes

We'll be keeping your dad in our prayers. :grouphug: I'm glad to hear that he is doing better.:goodvibes

Hope you have a great week ahead!

OK, I have good news and bad news.

Good news - dad's coming home tomorrow with a home care nurse. I know he'll feel so much better being at home.

Bad news - I'm having lots of pain again. :headache: Hip, and knee as well this time 'round. I've gotten some great advice from some WISH runners for stretches and some gadgets that can help me feel better...so I'm working on that. If I don't get any relief, then I'll go back to the ortho & see what else I can do. I'm also going back to the podiatrist to get things checked out and see what kind of sneakers I need, because we're thinking I need new/different ones. I haven't run since Sunday...and might try to go out for a short one tomorrow - but only if the pain isn't too bad. :headache:

Hey Kim. A big ol congrats again on your 5K. I am so proud of you! It's was great to say HI in person. Maybe next time we can chat longer! :goodvibes

I've had a hard time getting back into it. I've done NOTHING since the Minnie. There is a 5K this weekend so I'll see how that goes having done nothing in two weeks.

I am so glad to hear your dad is coming home and doing better!!! :cool1:

I know for me...It helps to have other races on the radar. I am planning a 5K in June, a 5 or 10K in July, not sure which yet and then a 5 or 10K in November...All local. I've the the 1/2 in January, but I don't really have to start training for that until Sept/Oct so if I didn't have anything in between I wouldn't do a thing! I have to have a goal and a plan or I'm useless! Coolrunning.com and runnersworld.com has areas on their websites where you can search for local races. I think you would do really well! You've got a great pace going!!! I'd like to be about where you are!

I really hope you get the pain stuff worked out. When is the last time you got shoes? That could be it... I hope it is nothing serious. Keep us posted on how you are doing!

Take care!
Stacie

Hey guys. First....dad is home! :woohoo:

Second...I made an appointment with the ortho, June 6th. :headache: Things aren't going well, unfortunately. The worst thing right now is the knee (side). It's my left leg still, which has always been the issue. My hip bothers me a little, but my knee is just really bad right now. I hadn't run since Sunday b/c of it, and then last night I ended up chasing DS for a short bit and when I stopped I seriously wanted to cry. I came home & took some advil, but was contemplting the E.R. :sad2: Once I stopped, put up my leg and relaxed, I felt better. Today it was better until I decided to take a slow, leisurely walk at lunch to get some fresh air. Same pain. It's really crazy.

So for now, no running for me. I'm not even stretching or anything. I need to let it sit and relax and then come Monday I'll start stretching. If it doesn't start killing me again, I might try the recumbant bike or eliptical...and I'm going to try some leg weights to build up some strength. I've gotten lots of advise from running friends online and at work - so I'm going to incorporate those and see how I make out until I get to the ortho.

It's really a bummer that I'm out of the game again already. I feel like I just hit my stride again and now I'm stopped. Trust me, I know there are MUCH worse things in the world, but I'm just frustrated. :headache:

Kim,
How did this happen? Things seemed so good just 2 weeks ago? Are you sure you didn't tick off some evil fairy or something? :maleficen

But seriously....sounds like you've got an enforced rest period. I have to say, those other options don't sound like they'd necessarily feel so great on an ouchy knee either. Less impact but still a lot of motion. Go easy (obviously). There was a CM spectator guy in DHS during the 15K hollering "No pain, no gain!" But you and I know that he was a big liar, right?

Take it easy and feel better soon. I know it's maddening, frustrating and depressing to be sitting on the sidelines when you really want to be out there.

Great news that your dad is home - I hope his recovery continues smoothly. I bet it's good to be out of the hospital.

Oh Kim. I am so sorry you are being bothered again by these injuries. I know it must be so frustrating. I am really happy you got in that WDW 5K though BEFORE this!

I really hope the DR can figure out what's going on.

Take it easy and rest it. There is less weight on it with the recumbent bike vs the elliptical (at least in my mind anyway). You could start slowly on the bike. I would hate to see get worse.

I'm hope you're feeling better very soon!

Stacie

o kim, im so sorry to hear abuot the pain you have again...how frustrating!! PLEASE do me a favor and dont try to do anything that you shouldnt--dont aggravate it anymore, you know?
Hang in there, ill text ya later

Hi Kim...

Sorry..I had a cr@ppy week and haven't been up on everyone's journals. I just read about your rough weekend with the knee pain! :(

I'm going to throw this out there...first of all...no running, or any distance walking right now. Matter of fact, until you see the Ortho I'd not do any exercise :(. I'd also be VERY careful about stretching. If you've injured your knee (ACL, Miniscus, etc) then stretching will only aggrivate it. The other possible issue is that it might be a severe case of IT Band flare up but it sounds even more painful/serious than that. :(

Just be careful and ICE, ELEVATE, REST until you see the doc. Please keep us posted. I'm so sorry you're in so much pain!

Thanks so much, guys. And thanks Amy for the advice. I was thinking the same thing. I might just wait until I see the ortho to do anything. At this point, I don't want to mess up anything worse - since just walking is bothering me.

Anyway, on top of the bum leg...I now have some kind of sinus stuff going on. I thought it was just allergies, until today when my whole head just throbs and hurts. :headache:

Such a mess, I am. :sad2:
