Well hellooooooooooooooooooo
As Amy must've seen on the c25k thread.... it went well!

I've never experienced running right next to the ocean before (on an asphault boardwalk, if you can picture that

) but the wind is CRAZY!!
Janine (work buddy), swim-mom and I drove down to Wildwood on Saturday to pick up our race bibs and complimentary tshirts, as well as check out the big "expo" they were advertising. We were directed to a tiny little conference-type room at the convention center where ONE vendor was set up.

We got our bibs, our tshirts and drove to check out the 5k course area (in a different town, Sea Isle City).
This morning we arrived a little after 9, for the 9:45 race, but sat in the car until 9:30 since it was sooooo windy.

We went to the refreshment tent until they told us all to go up onto the "boardwalk" for the start of the race. There were 168 runners for the 5k. We started at the finish line of the marathon and the course was an out & back type course. We got started and swim-mom went out in front. I knew I needed to pace myself in order to be able to do a little burst at the end. The wind was at our backs on the "out" portion which was nice, although we definitely would have preferred it to be that way on the way back. Definitely lots of faster runners (I think the fastest guy finished right at 20 minutes

). We all finished the first mile right around 10.5 minutes.

That was the last timer I saw until the end of the race. (it's kind of hard to visualize, but we ran probably 1/2 mile on the "boardwalk" and then went down a ramp and ran through the residential area and back) Once we got back to the "boardwalk" on the way back, the wind was in our faces and it was TOUGH! I'm sure that slowed us all down a bit. Amazingly, I felt good the whole time. My breathing was good, my body felt good. I just had to wipe the tears from my eyes for that last 1/2 mile constantly. I was able to pull out a little burst of speed at the end, probably only about 1/8 of a mile. We all finished within a minute of each other. My time was 33.47 (128th our of 168).

Honestly, with that head wind...I wouldn't have been surprised if my time ended up close to 40 minutes. It was as if someone was pushing us back. But we did it!!!
We waited around afterwards, since all finishers supposedly received commemorative (sp?) medals for the 10th anniversary of the event - only to find out that they mistakingly were sent to the finish line of the 10 miler in Wildwood.

Looks like an email will be sent to the organizers to see if we can still get them. Why not, right?
I guess to wrap up....I'm really glad we did it. It was a completely different running experience than I've ever had. I got to meet a great DIS-er in person.

And I'm really looking forward to the next 5k on May 3rd. (just so happens to be in Disney.

)
Thank you all SO much for your continuous inspiration, encouragement and support. YOU guys made this possible!
