KIMPUP and MLINDISNEY are back A Mini Off-Plan Dining Report UPDATE 3/3 VIA NAPOLI

After our Brunch at Tuskerhouse, we went to Dinoland for a few rides and on EE and headed back to AKL. We had to pick up our packets for the 5k on Friday. We took a bus to the ESPN Sports building. When we got back to the AKL, we rested up a bit and headed over to Epcot. We were going to do the wine walk, but DD wasn’t feeling well. We decided to get a few snacks to share:

IMG_0404_zps963380d5.jpg

A jalapeno pretzel from fife and drum!! This was just as delicious as the ones we had in September!
We also shared:

IMG_1214.jpg

Chocolate mousse from Boulangerie Patisserie des Halles. As you can see we all ready dug in! We were both a little disappointed with this. We were hoping that this tasted like the moose at Le Cellier or the mousse at Le Chefs. Those two had an extra chocolatey taste and was very thick and buttery. This was more like whipped texture.
At the Mara, later on we picked up a little fruit and a croissant for breakfast the next morning because we had to get to Epcot for the 5k by 5:45. DD was hungry so she got a flatbread:

IMG_1215.jpg

This was very tasty!

The mousse was $4.25 and I don’t have the pretzel receipt. The flat bread was $9.69. The Croissant was $2.49 and the fruit was $1.49 each. We put these on our Disney Rewards Card!

NEXT REVIEW: Breakfast at Mara after the 5k, Snack Writer's Stop and Lunch Pizza Planet

Before we went to the race we had some of the things we bought at the Mara the night before. Fruit, water croissant. I don’t have a photo of these.
After the race, we came back to AKL and had the rest of the fruit, and croissant. Then we picked up coffee at the Mara and headed to the bus stop for Hollywood Studios.
We arrived there a little after rope drop and ran to Toy Story Mania, went to Tower of Terror and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. We did a few more things and then went into Writer’s Stop. I looked around in there and DD had some coffee.
We met my two SILs and one of my nieces at Pizza Planet and had lunch.
DD and I shared a pizza:

IMG_1216.jpg

The pizza was pretty good. We didn’t get dessert. I don’t know why we didn’t eat a lot this day. Maybe because my daughter wasn’t feeling well and we just ran in the morning. Well we made up for it at dinner! Our pizza was $8.99 which we paid for on the Disney Rewards card. I don’t know how much the coffee was at Writer’s Stop.

NEXT: DINNER - SANAA

I think my SIL ordered this:
IMG_1215.jpg

Flatbread Pizza?

That is a pic of the Chicken flatbread from the Mara LOL! I know because I had it in September. It was really good. I especially liked the zough drizzle. It tasted kind of like spicy pesto. :thumbsup2

The flat bread pizza looks good.

We haven't been to Pizza Planet in a long time. I always liked that it came with a salad.

I think Pizza Planet pizza looks really yummy!

Dinner at Boma looks so yum. I'd love to try the salmon and that soup! We just can't squeeze dinner there into our plans so we're doing breakfast instead.

I think we might pick up some zebra domes at The Mara because I'm desperate to try them. I saw a picture of the pre-packed ones there recently and the liquor was definitely listed on the ingredients. I'm tee-total and have very low tolerance for alcohol in foods so I'll likely think they're awful but I still want to tick them off my list.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!:rotfl: Look what I posted I can't believe this! Thank you SRiley1985 for pointing this out!! I'm going to take that out of the Pizza Planet Post and Put it in the Mara Post before it!!

The flat bread was posted incorrectly!! :rotfl2: I think I was tired when I posted these last two posts! I'm going to correct it though!

I tried the Zebra Domes at the Mara on our last trip and then tried them again at Boma. I liked them a little better at Boma, maybe because they were all melted by the time we got from the Mara to the Poly on our last trip.
I wanted to try Boma for breakfast on this trip to compare it to the Tuskerhouse breakfast, but we couldnt fit it in.

We had an ADR at Sanaa at 5:00. We took a van from the front of AKL to get there. We arrived a little early, checked in and went outside to look at the animals.

IMG_1229.jpg

There is such great viewing outside of Sanaa! We had dinner here on our last trip and took some great photos. It started to rain when we were there last time and the animals were quite active.
We went in and were seated by the window. Our friend from last trip was there again! It almost was as if he were posing! In my last Dining report, I had forgotten his name, but Rohais replied and told me his name is Reuben!

IMG_1235.jpg

Reuben!
My DD wasn’t feeling well all day. By now, she had a full blown cold. She felt like eating though so we ordered the bread service:

IMG_1243.jpg

We had to choose 5 types of bread and 5 accompaniments. We chose all five types. Here is a photo of all the bread that we started eating all ready! :)

IMG_1244.jpg

Here are the accompaniments. I loved the coconut chutney on the right, so we ordered two of them. DD likes the red bell pepper hummus (top left) We tried the Mango Chutney and not sure what the brown on the bottom was. We had Naan bread with accompaniments last time, and loved this both times!
For dinner DD ordered:

IMG_1245.jpg

Potato and pea Samosas, with Mango Chutney. She got this last time for an appie. She enjoyed this. As you can see one is missing already.
I ordered:

IMG_1246.jpg

Slowed cooked butter chicken and beef short rips with basmati rice. We shared this, but I think I ate the most! Last trip I ordered shrimp and butter chicken and DD ordered the short ribs and something else, so we ordered our favorites from last trip. This was delicious!
We didn’t order dessert (see below), but DD ordered coffee and I ordered vanilla rooibos tea, which I had last time and loved! I have no photo of the coffee but here is the tea:

IMG_0781_zps02088cf2.jpg

This meal was $54.15, not including tip, which I paid for with a gift card that I received for Christmas!
We didn’t order dessert with this meal so that night at Epcot, we visited Karamell Küche:

IMG_0886_zps2b90cc9f.jpg

DD and I chose the same two that we had last trip: Dark chocolate sea salt caramel and caramel roll with marshmallow. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! I had the sea salt caramel!
They were each 3.99 with tax $4.25. paid for by our gift cards. So far we haven’t paid for any of our meals or snacks!

NEXT REVIEW: Breakfast at the MARA

The picture of the giraffe is beautiful!

The butter chicken looks delicious. Is it very spicy?

We heard that the half marathon was going to tie up some traffic in the Epcot area, so we got to the Mara very early. I ordered:

IMG_1255.jpg

Bacon, egg and cheese croissant. Notice how there is a bite missing out of it. I also ordered coffee.
DD ordered:

IMG_1254.jpg

The Bounty Platter. I had her bacon. :) She also ordered simply orange juice and coffee. She was starting to feel a little better, but she was still sick.

This meal was $22.53, paid for by one of our gift cards. We both came with cards that we had gotten for Christmas. We headed for the bus stop to go to Epcot.

NEXT REVIEW: Lunch - LA CANTINA DE SAN ANGEL

The breakfast sandwich looks pretty darn good! Love the reviews & great pictures. Thanks!

We met up in Epcot with one of my brothers, SIL and niece. After spending the morning in Epcot, we headed over to La Cantina De San Angel. My brother and his family wanted to eat at Kringla. We were there in September and wanted to order the same thing we did last trip. We shared:

IMG_0138_zps7462ebbc.jpg

Tacos de Carne! These were delicious again! For dessert we shared:

IMG_0140_zps76c6780d.jpg

Churritos con Cajeta! These were just as good as last time! After we finished eating, we walked over to Kringla to see if my brother and his family were still there. They were having the delicious Kringla sandwiches! No photos of their meals though. I noticed my niece was having Viking chocolate mousse. We made a note to come back later and taste it.
Here it is:

IMG_1267.jpg

As you can see we ALMOST dug in just a slight spoon impression on top. :)
I liked this mousse better than the one at Boulangerie Patisserie des Halles, but not as much as the ones at Le Cellier or Le Chefs. The Viking horns were cookies. They were ok.
The meal at La cantina was $17.02, and the Viking mousse was $4.25, paid for by one of our gift cards, not sure which. I think I ran out at that point, so DD was paying.

NEXT REVIEW: Dinner- JIKO (WANYAMA SAFARI)

The mousse looks so cute with the cookie. I'll have to remember to try it next time!

You had alot of gift cards! ;)

The mousse was pretty good. Did you ever have the Chefs Mousse or Lecellier moose? Yes we had the Rewards card loaded up and also each had one gift card, so meals were taken care of!

I want this now! :rotfl:

Try it next trip!!

I like the looks of that chocolate mousse with the cookie horns. I might just have to fit one of those in during our upcoming trip! :thumbsup2

Since we were staying at the AKL, we decided to do a few tours that can only be done while staying here. We enjoy dining and also enjoyed the Wild Africa Trek on our last trip and booked the Wanyama Safari. This included a tour around the Savannahs of AKL and also Kidani Village. We got so close to the animals! They were right next to the truck!! Before the food photos, I’ll post some of the animals.
We met at the front desk of Jiko and they showed us to a room where all of the people on the tour met up. There were about 18 of us. They served us a few appetizers and some cookies with vanilla rooibos tea:

IMG_1283.jpg

These were little pieces of bread with cucumber and cheese I think. This isn’t on the souvenir menu. They also served cookies which are in another plate in the photo. I was busy eating and getting my lanyard name tag at this point that I forgot to take photos.
After, this snack, we went to the front of AKL. Everyone had their photo taken:

43599180000.jpg

This photo and a few others were taken of us for free and put onto a photopass. We then got into that truck you see behind us.

IMG_1295.jpg

That is Sanaa in the background.

IMG_1297.jpg

IMG_1298.jpg

You can see DD here on the right.

IMG_1308.jpg

We had to wait here while a zebra crossed in front of the truck.

IMG_1324.jpg

IMG_1339.jpg

Our guide stopped the truck and ran out and picked up an ostrich egg.
Oooops, forgot this was a dining report. I have so many close up photos of the animals on the savannahs! After the tour was finished we went out of the savannah through a double gate and through an unused wooded area. We were brought back to the front of AKL. We went back downstairs to Jiko and were seated at a very long table near the kitchen.
We were given this:
3011cb27-fe2e-40e6-8740-97aaf68a6776_zps77eab25f.jpg

This is the menu and another rolled up copy of the menu to take home (More photos of take-home goodies at the end of this review.
As soon as we sat down, they brought this out:

IMG_1359.jpg

Sunriser ~ Parrot Bay Rum, Banana Liqueur Blended with Orange, Pineaple and Cranberry Juices. This was very good, but too much ice ;)
Next they brought out:

IMG_1358.jpg

Taste of Africa ~ Assortment of Dips with Papadam, Poppy Seed Lavash and House-made Naan. The waitress explained what each dip was, but I forgot and it’s not on the menu. I did have some of these dips and breads at Sanaa.
Next came appetizers:

IMG_1361.jpg

Crispy Beef “Bobotie” Roll with Cucumber Raita, Green Mango Atjar and Honey-roasted Groundnuts.
Inguday Tibs in Brik with Mushrooms, Spinach and Cheese in crispy Tunisian Filo with Apples and Curry Vinaigrette.
Peri Peri Roasted Chicken Lime Chakalaka Lamb Chopper Cheese, and Pickled Sweet Bell Peppers
Wine was served with each course. The one with this course was Graham Beck “the Game Reserve”, Chenin blanc, Franschhoek I didn't take photos of all the wine that came out.
I loved the Bobotie roll the best. All were served in platters family style and passed around the table.

IMG_1362.jpg

They served this raspberry sherbet for a palate cleanse between the appetizer and the entrée.
First Entrée:

IMG_1363.jpg

Three entrees were served on platters. Each person took one of each. This one is Maize-crusted Atlantic Black Grouper with Vegetables of the Moment and Tomato-Butter Sauce. This was extremely tasty, especially the sauce!

IMG_1364.jpg

This one was the platter with one leftover. This is Oak-grilled Filet Mignon with Ancient Grain Pilaf, Brussels Sprouts and South African Red Wine Sauce. This was the one I liked the most. The sauce was delicious!
Unfortunately I didn’t get a photo of the third entrée. It was, Guinea Hen “Doro Wot” braised Leg and Berbere Roasted Breast with Sweet Potato, Wilted Greens and Ancho Glaze. I enjoyed all three entrees, but the Filet was great!
The Entrée was served with Graham Beck “the Game Reserve” Cabernet Sauvignon, Robertson.
Dessert:

IMG_1366.jpg

The dessert didn’t come out in platters. Each person got a small platter with three desserts.
From left to right: Vanilla Rooibos-Tanzanian Chocolate Cake and Honey Crunch Topping, Cheesecake with Spice Cake Crust and warm Sauteed Apples in Caramel and Peppermint Crunch Crème Brulee with Chocolate Ganache bottom.
I enjoyed the Vanilla Rooibos chocolate cake the best. The Peppermint crème brulee was very different. This was served with Paul Cluver “Noble Late Harvest”, Riesling, Elgin.
As we were leaving, we were given bags with some things in it.

IMG_1441.jpg

I took this pic at home. In this bag were cookies, a pin, a menu and a card:

IMG_1444.jpg

These cookies were very good!

IMG_1446.jpg

The pin.

IMG_1447.jpg

Thank you!
I would recommend this tour and dinner highly! It was very expensive though! For DD and me it was $380.01. For $190.00 each it included the tour, all the food, wine tax and gratuities. We paid for this on the credit card. It had to have credit card hold. That night we signed the receipt. I enjoyed every minute!
