Kilimanjaro Safari

I guess I'm the voice of dissent, but I was glad we got off when we did or I would have been feeling really bad. We went w/ FP+ after our Tusker House brunch (about 20 mins between eating and riding) and sat in the second row. It wasn't so much the bumps as the extreme stop and go. I've not been able to figure out if it was just our driver or if that is the ride's 'shtick', but we'd be sitting looking at something then BAM he'd take off, then hit the brakes hard when we got to the next animal.

I found it very jerky, super bumpy and VERY stop and go. All the things that give me motion sickness when I ride in the back seat of the car. FYI - I don't have extreme motion sickness, meaning I don't vomit or anything. The fact that I was 2nd row and it was open air are all that kept me from getting a bad stomach and headache, though.

I'm another that suffers from being extremely motion sickness sensitive. BTMRR was the first and last roller coaster I'll ever ride. That was awful. I'll feel sick if someone spikes the brakes in a vehicle that I'm riding in, and must have lots of Dramamine (sp?) for anything like a bus (even ay Disney), plane, train or a boat. Got stuck on SW one and almost lost it there. Anyway, safari has never bothered me, empty or full stomach. Good luck.

I would say 9 out of ten times, you're fine. Occasionally you'll encounter a stop and go driver like the poster above, and we had one (exactly one) ride where I understood the pregnancy warnings - we sat in the back and must've had an overzealous driver, because it was honest to goodness as wild as dinosaur (no exaggeration.)

But those trips are few and far between, so I'd say you're likely okay - although the longer the line, the more likely you are to get a speedy Gonzales driver with jackrabbit starts. (Riding ear park close when the line approaches a walk on tends to yield us slow, meandering journeys with lots of leisurely photo stops. Guessing that will change as we roll into Night Safari!)

I'm prone to motion sickness in cars and the safari has never bothered me. In fact it's my absolute favorite ride at AK.

I had a very rough driver last time and it was bad. Do not sit in the back, maybe that was part of the reason.

I get motion sickness in cars, boats, and planes. I get really ill in simulators. I have no problem on Safari.

As many have said, its bumpy. As one who is prone to motion sickness as a passenger in a car, I've never had any problems on the Safari. Its a slow ride and stops frequently...I'd recommend you don't miss it!

I've heard people say it's quite rough but others say it's not. Any expert opinions please? We've got a lunch ADR at Tusker House and love the sound of the food that is on offer (got a healthy appetite!) but I am prone to motion sickness....and well, you know.

Thanks in advance.

Many people get motion sickness but in many different ways. My mother was fine reading in a car for long periods of time but get her into a bumper car and she didn't feel well after. I was the opposite. So I guess a follow up would be - what happens before your motion sickness? That would be something others can help you with on your question.

For me, the Safari never bothered me and I have a broken neck and the doctor said I would be fine. However, that's just MY experience, not yours.

I am not for sure if I would qualify as a safari "expert" but I do not think that it is rough. I agree with other posters that have said it is like riding down a dirt road. You do not feel it as much in the front and middle as you do in the back.

Thanks, all. ADR is for 1.40 and FP+ window is 3-4pm, so I shall aim for closer to 4 and avoid the back.
