Kids stole the keys from the dog at POTC

So college students never did anything anything stupid back in the 70's?

Come on, stupid people do stupid stuff no matter what year it is.

I'm picturing the undercover security guard disguised as an animatronic, mingling with the other figures in the scenes. You're noticing how realistic the pirate's hairy leg looks, you try to take a flash picture of it, and bam! It kicks the camera out of your hands!

Now I have to picture him dressed as a can-can dancer, singing the "ooh-la-la" chorus of "It's a Small World After All" while he keeps his eye peeled for hands dipping in the water.

I'm keeping a close eye on Martin van Buren next time I'm at the Hall of presidents. He's always looked a little sketchy to me. ;)

K, I just snorted something out my nose when I read this,:lmao:
THANKS for the levity after this lengthy novel! I think I would pay a bonus to see that in action...I just went into the new and improved Journey to Imagination in my head...

After reading all these posts...I am discussed by these boys. I am finding more and more that some people feel "entitled" to do what ever they want because of they paid so much money for it. I see it every trip. I love the experience of Disney. The sights and sounds and food...and Mickey..and it makes me sick to hear that things like this going on.

I was wondering if the sensors where maybe shut off since it was getting ready to close?? The CM may have been rushing to get out and was thinking nothing happen they would close down early??

OP I'm sorry that your experience was ruined by these "children" and hope the rest of your trip was magical.

A quick comment on the "no flash photography" discussion. I wouldn't take a flash photo in any other show that's in the dark (movie theater, play, opera, symphony concert -- but rock concerts yes, because you are encouraged to scream and hold up lighters and be generally disruptive, ha!). In a dark ride I'm essentially watching a show in the dark. A flash (or bright LCD) is pretty obviously disruptive. I do wish Disney would enforce it better.

Also surprised that they did not get caught on camera, as well as not getting wet. Just can not remember where it was dry enough for them not to get in the water

Was there today and had someone in the same boat using a camera flash like crazy.....so frustrating.

Anyway, as has been reported, replacement keys are there, although I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference myself.

LOL we're there every weekend - it was just a fluke that we were behind these morons. Though I'm glad we were, because if we hadn't told the CM at the end of the ride what happened, no one would have known until someone realized the keys were long gone.

Ive never stolen anything in my life, but how cool would that be to hang the keys from Pirates of the Caribbean from the mantle? Everybody who's ever been on that ride remembers that scene. These kids were dastardly and despicable, but they brought home a cooler souvenir from Disney than I ever have. Hopefully they regret it, but will appreciate and have a great story to tell their grandkid's 50 years from now.

Hopefully they will realize what they did was wrong and make arrangements to return the stolen property.

Actually I wonder how many times this has happened before and we just never knew about it. The "cool souvenir" might just be one of about 50 through the years.

I don't agree with "how cool is that".

Tresspassing and stealing drunk or sober are not cool.

About the assumption that the perpetrators were drunk. People do stupid stuff without alcohol. If they didn't catch the dude I don't know how they would know he was drunk. Maybe they did catch him and give him a breathalyzer.

I've seen guys get out of the POTC boats into the ride areas at Disneyland. This was years ago. Never saw one try to take anything or commit vandalism though. mostly they were just showing off. But the getting out of the boat thing? It can be done.

i know it isn't the same, but you could just buy a replica from the gift shop. my DD bought them and they're actually pretty heavy.

I'm a grandfather (and soon to be a great grandpa) and I would be ashamed to brag about something like that. My children and grandchildren are with us at WDW often and we have great menories of those trips. None of them involve crime. The idea that stealing those keys is "cool" or creates a "great story" is exactly why kids keep doing this kind of crap.

The "shore" at Disneyland is much closer to the boats than it is at WDW. That was actually the first thing I noticed when I finally made it out tto the West Coast park.

This is a 'From what I've heard...' post.

The keys have been stolen many times before, and when that happens maintenance just grabs a pair that's sold in the gift shop. That is what is hanging in the dogs mouth at this very moment.
