Hi, I'm wondering what brand/type of shoes you typically have on hand for a 5 year old boy? Just want to bring the best shoes we can. Any suggestions, tips, etc would be helpful, thanks!!!

Sneakers are best due to the amount of walking, no flip flops or sandals. A sneaker that's very supportive is good I love Keens. We also bring a pair of water shoes for the pool!

I would bring comfortable and lightweight sneakers. We like stride rites and can get them inexpensive at Kohls using coupons/ discounts.

We do keens and chaco and have done well broken in Crocs. My kids could not do tennis shoes unless it was cold outside and if u choose tennis shoes bring a second pair of shoes incase rain shower. Wet tennis shoes are miserable. I hope you have a great trip

We did sneakers because we already had them but brought 2 pairs plus flop flips. Wet shoes are no fun. When it looked limlike e it was going to rain hard I packed the flip flops in the park bag. We learned early on our trip sneakers dry very slowly.

Thank you all, every suggestion is appreciated. Yes, I just am waffling about what shoes to bring, since they are an ultra-important part of the trip. It's been hitting me that sneakers/tennis shoes may be a bit "heavy" in the August heat, which is why I wrote this post. I do thank everyone again for the help, you are so wonderful---Love the DisBoards!!!!

2 sneakers in case of rain, pool sandals and nice sandals. DS6 likes Brooks and Sketchers and Teva sandals. But whatever you do have DS break them in before the trip. Invest in the shoe, don't go cheap like those champion light up theme sneakers or you'll hear whining.

Our kids rock flip flops, they spend most of their life in them and Disney is no exception! lol

I personally wear light weight Nike Running shoes, good support and less likely to get blisters etc... My personal Favorite is the Nike Air Pegasus II! My Wife rocks Birkenstocks!

Oh great posts, THANK YOU again. Yes, my little boy currently has the champion light up shoes---Lightning McQueen---and they seem so cheap.

lol snap! However, if your kids are anything like mine when it comes to 'buggy' shoes and socks, Nike Free Runs are a great choice. Light weight and breathable without being rigid to make them 'buggy'.

Oh I hope I didn't come off as snooty. I've bought my kids light up shoes before, they're fun. I just don't think they have the cushion or support needed for park touring.

No DisneyCAL--I love your post, you make sense. I really don't like the "cheap-y" tennis shoes my little boy currently has...I want something better for the parks. Thank you again, I really appreciate your posts!!!

Keens. Make sure to try different styles. My son always wore Newports, but this year they were too wide for his feet. We switched to Seacamps for both kids which are slimmer and lighter weight. They can get wet, dry easily, have good support, and a covered toe.

Crocs get slippery when wet and rub my kids' feet after awhile. Plus my kids tend to trip when running in Crocs. Tennis shoes seemed too hot, but we did bring a pair just in case.

Anything that could get wet!

My son wore keens but the last trip he got some friction spots (it wasn't his first time wearing them). So instead he wore his flip flops.

My son, well all my kids, the last trip we took got wet, soaked, dripping wet! If there is water they are in it. So wearing sneakers wet is not something I want my kids to do or myself so the shoes must be able to get wet and allow the feet to breathe!

We are going next summer and I wish my 13 yo son had feet that were not still growing so I could buy him something now to break in but that is not the case. I am looking at Merrills like my DH has but he needs to try them on and see if they hurt.

DD usuay wears her salt water sandals. They are comfortable for walking and can get wet without damage.

I hate sneakers in the parks. Hot, sweaty feet are so uncomfortable! I'd rather invest in a pair of good, supportive sandals.

Stride rites for sure!! Never had a complaint from my kids wearing them! I also got him a pair of captain america light up stride rites that lasted forever, and he loved wearing to the parks. (Got the captain america ones on their website, and most other stride rites from kohls)
