I was interested in finding out what sorts of things your kids get in goodie bags when they attend birthday parties and what you put in them.
I want to put in some different items into the goodie bags this year for my daughter's birthday party, but nothing big and such since we will have bingo and there will be other prizes for the kids.

Do you have any Dollar Tree's near you? They have a whole store full of things that could be used AND some of the packs could be broken up to lessen the price.

My DD last birthday, we gave paperback books. I got them from a scholastic newsletter for .95 each. They were a big hit with the kids and the adults!

Nope no Dollar Tree :(.

I second the Dollar Tree. Lots of ideas...hairbows, lip gloss, brushes and mirrors, etc.

Does your party have a theme? It would be neat to coordinate the goody bags to the theme of the party.

In the past we have gotten candy (of course), squirt guns, legos, beach balls, bouncy balls, crayons, ballons, and did I mention candy?

My DD's birthdays are right at the start of the school year, so last year I did a back to school goody box. I used a pencil case and filled it with candy, crayons, a note pad, pencils, pens, and did I mention candy?

Have a great party!

I love to give books as prizes. I had ordered a bunch of books and activity books to give away as prizes for the games. One year, I bought a set of Winnie the Pooh hardcover books since that was the theme of the party and that was a hit with the kids and the adults.
I have those small party favor bags, so I need things that are small to put in them. So far, I do have the Hello Kitty themed birthday things to add in, decorative pencils, glow sticks, and will get some snacks to put in them.

We've done....and received.......super balls, yoyos, pencils, pens, markers, crayons, coloring books, jewelry, hair things, temp tattoos, stickers, McDonald's certificates, candy....lots of that, nail polish and stickers, etc.

Oriental Trading company was always a good place to get things.

Yes, we are having a Hello Kitty party. There are more boys then girls that will attend the party, so I want to have general things in there cause I know that the boys and girls will fight over who has what.
We are having a pinata, so will put candy in there.
Last year, in our pinata, I had candy along with colorful stars that dropped out of the pinata. On most of the stars, there were prizes listed and if you picked that star, you would get that prize. The adults loved it as much as the kids. It's fun to see the video of the adults rushing in to get the stars once they knew there were prizes listed LOL.

I had gotten the glow sticks and pencils that I have already for the bags from Oriental Trading Company. The thing though is shipping to Hawaii is expensive.
I like the idea of McDonalds certificates and nail polish in the bags. Never thought of those.

I've used oriental traders, too. We had a jungle themed party for my daughter's 6th and her party favor bag included a jungle animal light switch cover for each kid! They had them on clearance for 99c each at OT and I thought, well, that'll be original, hope the parents are good with a slotted screwdriver! Also did pads of paper, and things that glowed in the dark, stuff like that. On my hate list are :

gum (always ends up in the hair)
stickers (always ends up sealed to my wood floors and furniture)
pencils (somebody's gonna poke out an eye)
anything that makes noise (oh, my achin' head!)
small bouncing rubber balls (they always put them in their mouth, no matter what age, and freak me out)
any candy with peanuts (my older kid has peanut allergy)
pixie sticks (could we find a messier candy?)

We don't usually do goodie bags. Instead we do big cookies related to the theme of the party, wrap them in a cellophane bag and put a big, bright bow on them. We've done Nemo, SpongeBob, baseballs, etc... We get them at a bakery for $1.50 each, they work with us on the design and always look very nice. One year I made candy apples and did them up in the same manner. Always a hit. :goodvibes

I found this site a couple of years ago and it is great. You can order the whole goodie package for about $4 per child and it comes with the box & everything.

No running around searching for stuff to go in the bags, and I always ran into the problem of never the right amount of prizes coming in a package so you had to buy more. This way you can order and exact number.

I'm not a fan of dollar stores. I don't know how they are in the US but here in Canada, everything from the dollar store breaks in a day.

I have found that for little boys, Hot Wheels cars cost about .80 so I buy 3 with a handful of candy.

When is the party and how old is your DD?

My favorite goody bags that we did was for my son when he was going into K or 1st grade. His birthday is the start of the school year. I bought little containers that hold school supplies and filled it with school type stuff. The kids have to be young enough to think that going to school is a good thing. :rotfl: Would work with ages 3-6yo, I would think. Even the little kids like getting school type stuff. The parents like it because it's stuff that can actually be used (and used up) and they won't have a bunch of little plastic toys sitting around the house.

since we mainly have only adults at parties we have done candy bars with perzonalized wrapper....pumpkin soaps with personalized packaging....and personalized candles...

I love party planning...this year we will have glass slippers with something in them...

hmmm a hello kitty theme...

how about some sort of bucket/pail and decorate with Hello Kitty stickers....and load with treats such as

don't know if you have checked out birthday express or not but they have the whole kitty party complete with Pinata!!

I get most everythign from the dollar tree and oriental trading. I love oriental trading!

I've used:

bubbles (a favorite)
stickers (another favorite)
fruit snacks
bouncy balls
keychains (themed)
small boxes of crayons and small notebooks or coloring books
pencils
die cast cars

some things we've received:

candy
sunglasses
party blowouts

I usually try to stick to the theme of the party. For a farm party we had farm animal or tractor themed erasers, stickers, etc. For a construction party we had die cast tractors, tool shaped key chains, for a rubber ducky party we had rubber ducky necklaces and stickers, etc.

I have noticed that the things we have rec'd are always broken and in the trash the next day....I think crayons/coloring books, small books, bubbles, snacks are great ideas!!

also - try www.birthdaypartyideas.com they have some great ideas!

Oh yeah, I love that site!!!!

Oh and for the construction party, we found hard hats and blow up hammers that were perfect from oriental trading. The hats were only 3.95 for a dozen. We found firemen hats for a fireman party there too.

I've also made molded candy. For the fireman party we made red fire hydrants and yellow fireman badges. There are candy molds in all different shapes and themes and it's easy to do.

DS just had his 2nd birthday. Most of the kids were really young. We gave:
Best of Elmo CD (I bought the CD, burned copies, and made cute labels)
Elmo fruit snacks
Goldfish crackers from Dorothy.
