Kids need to know a lot of adults play vmk

:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

I like to think I'm a broad. :thumbsup2 Not a girl or a lady :scared1: , I'm much too crass to be either of those. :rotfl:

The Queen of Big Cups and Big Shoes has spoken... :thumbsup2 (... or is she the King...)

Arg! What has this thread turned into?? :)

ETA: My turn to crawl under a rock because I don't have a princessy pirate mate (sniff sniff)

You think I'm a girl? :rotfl2:

I can safely assume that anyone who gets defensive when I point that Capture is for girls is, in fact, a girl. I find it to be true 100% of the time.

And what's wrong with that? Why can't girls have their own game? I think it's great, "girl power" and all that. I look at it like this. Girls wear dresses. That doesn't mean they can't wear pants. But boys don't wear dresses. You see? Flag is the dress and battle is the pants.

To my (male) way of thinking strategy games are fun. I like winning those too. But the strategy element is unnecessary when a game has guns.

We know Agnes can merge threads. I wonder if he can split them too?

So what you are saying is girls can play both, but boys are limited. I understand perfectly. pirate:

I wasn't being defensive, I was just stating facts. I watch the History Channel far too much. ;)

If I play pirates (real men play ghosts - :lmao: ), I prefer to play Ship Battle. Capture the Flag just bores me to tears unless I'm playing friendly flag with friends who totally rag on each other throughout the game. The verbal battle is quite entertaining and tends to make up for the boredom of the game itself. :thumbsup2

To set the record straight, I am a female. I don't think people will mistake me for a guy any time soon (gets out the mustache removal wax just in case - :upsidedow ). How many guys have rainbow laces in their sneakers and have sneakers in every color of the rainbow?

ETA: My turn to crawl under a rock because I don't have a princessy pirate mate (sniff sniff)

Aww, I'll be your princessy pirate matey. Uh.. I mean maybe just your pirate matey. pirate: Arrrrrg!
( I have learned that playing alongside you is much better for my credits than playing against you.)

I think the analogy holds up. Ask boys if they feel somehow limited that stores don't carry dresses made for them. It's the same thing. You girls can have your flag. We're quite content to let you play it. Play it in a dress if you want to. :thumbsup2

But, I don't really like wearing dresses. I wear pants almost exclusively.
Not because I don't like being a woman. But, because I hate being cold.

Woudnt them freaks find a different way to find kids?

I gave out too much information and because of that I cleared my friends list, and for another reason.:scared1:

As for labelling kids and adults on the game, that is exactly what VMK does NOT want to happen. It's far too easy to create an account and SAY you're a kid, there is no way for VMK to verify your information.
Identifying who is and who is not a kid takes away an element of the safety that Disney has put in place.
Yes, this is really what it comes down to. I'll admit it takes some mental adjustment, but this is really better for the kids. Keeping age information private covers a lot of bases in terms of safety, even if it seems to go against the instinct not to mislead anyone. Like many others here, I would much prefer to make it clear in game that I am an adult, but if that topic were allowed, some kids would probably give out even more information then they unthinkingly do at present. (Plus as others have said, what's to keep some adults from deliberately claiming to be the same age as them.)

In VMK it's the content of discussion that determines safety, not the fact of who is behind the avatar.

I know this is kind of a rehashed topic...

Yeah, yeah, I know I've seen plenty of kids beware posts on here before but seriously, I don't think we can emphasize this enough. LOTS OF ADULTS ARE ON VMK. We aren't all creepy either but I'm sure some of the creepos are out there

Your post is kind of self-defeating.

The target age of VMK is 8-14. Although it is obvious that people outside of this range play the game, I think that it is perfectly normal in this day and age to think that a grown adult playing a kids game is a creep. If you were 14 years old and an adult randomly approached you in the game and said "Hey, I'm an adult" wouldn't you be scared?
Predators and other creepy people are rampant online. It's on the news almost every day.

I have to take issue with your comment. You stated that a "grown adult playing a kids game is a creep." If you are referring to VMK, I do not think this applies.

Directly from VMK.com, "VMK may be designed for 8-14 year olds, but Disney fans of all ages will have a blast. No matter how old you are, you'll discover something fun in the game." I am a Disney lover who discovered an interactive, fun, online environment in which I can have a good time with other who share similar interests as myself and like to have fun. That does not make me a creep, as you so indicate. It makes me someone who enjoys VMK - a game for Disney fans of all ages, which includes me.

Wow not sure how else to put it. I found a game that I can play along side my son. This game gives us our Disney fix until our next trip. It lets us share some fun that is not always easy to do with your kid. At an age where most kids shut out their parents we have something we talk about. Disney is for all-the young the old the in between. Disney is for the kid in all of us. So with that said I guess you would say yes I am a creep-I love the game, sharing time with my son, my friends and his friends. I would not want it any other way :)

heh, that must be why they put that cutting edge game of checkers into vmk. To keep the creeps away :rotfl:

Ditto!

I had a friend who gave me the nickname "Creepy". At least it fits now that I am an official old creepy geezer in VMK.

At an age where most kids shut out their parents we have something we talk about. Bug

It's great Disney that has a game that promotes kids and their parents to do something together.

You know, when I saw that game added, I thought to myself - do kids these days actually know how to play checkers?

So then I guess all adults who go to Disney and don't have kids with them are creeps, huh?

That is part of why I wanted to start this thread was to say that you know, a lot of us are not weirdos just because we are adults. I am a stay at home mom to two children and have a quite normal existence. I just like to play games and love all things Disney. I grew up here in Florida and my fondest memories are of the MK when my father worked there and I was a child. Now I take my children so that they can relive the memories. In between playing vmk gives me some connection to something that has always brought joy to my life. How does that make me a weirdo?

Btw, everyone gets old eventually. It will happen to you too. I guess when you are my age you will have to give up games and any other fun designated for children, eh? ;)

No, he didn't. Cardinal said that it was understandable for someone to think that an adult playing a game for kids is a creep. That is not even close to the same thing, and I think it's rather disingenuous of you (and others below you) to take his words out of context like that. It is understandable that some kids will be unnerved to learn that someone they've been playing with in the game is an adult: they react that way because people who care about them have taken the time to teach them to be careful online, because there are some sick adults out there who might want to hurt them. (And yes, they even try it in vmk. That's why there are so many rules.) Some kids handle that knowledge differently than others, so for some, learning that some of their 'friends' are adults is scary.

Well, there in lies the problem. I'm a single adult with no kids who happens to loves Disney. I guess I must be a creep.
It must be further creepy that I also own quite an extensive Disney movie collection. All bought by me for myself. If I could afford it, I would happily go to the parks by myself with no other excuse other than I love them.
I just have to be a creepy preditor. :rolleyes1

"To all that come to this happy place: welcome. Disneyland is your land."—Walt Disney
"If there is a secret, I guess it's that I never make the pictures too childish, but always try to get in a little satire of adult foibles." —Walt Disney
"My business is making people, especially children, happy." —Walt Disney

Walt himself must have been the biggest creep of all. ;)
But, he believed not only in entertaining children, but adults as well.
VMK follows that belief.

And I see no reason why kids should think it's unnormal for adults to enjoy some of the same things they do.

I dont think they took him out of context at all.
