i have been looking at the 2018 dining plan as well as restaurants

It looks like most kids meals come with a drink included in the price - milk water juice or kids soda. Under the 2017 plan can they substitute their drink for a non-alcoholic speciality drink?

It seems like they should be able to on the 2018 plan right? For example some restaurants have a non-alcoholic version of the speciality cocktail. I wonder if they can get that with their meal

Basically a mocktail? What we used to call a Shirley Temple or Roy Rogers.

I don't know what the 2017 situation is for kids, but as an adult, some WDW restaurants have allowed me to select a mocktail in lieu of soda, etc. Some of the WDW-owned & operated restaurants will do this on request (I have never had them offer it as a choice) - eg Sanaa & Coral Reef come to mind. I've had much less success at 3rd party restaurants with the exception of Yak & Yeti in AK.

It is always a limited choice from a list of around 3 mocktails.

Or, since QS isn't differentiated, just buy them an adult QS and upgrade the drink. That's what we did.
