Aw, what a sweet serenade! It'll be Arminda's 10th birthday when we're at Disney. I love the matching shirts and the pixie dust is too cute! You have us beat with 18 people over our 15. I guess I need to get some more kids before the trip! ;)
And, Courtney will be turning 14! (Well, that's the day they get home, but WE will still be there, won't we!!!) Courtney is our oldest niece.

F) Did you know I would count the people to see who "won", too?

G) Did you know this would make me think of Grandma?
F.)We are freakishly similar you and I!
G.)I don't know WHAT you could be talking about! ;)

TYou know, someone once told me that Tessa was a dog's name when I was pregnant with her. The woman had a daughter named Claire. I didn't think of it at the time, but I should have said "Claire is a fat girl's name. She's skinny now, but I could see her pushing maximum density." I actually love the name Claire, but that would have been a great opportunity to show that woman how rude she was being and to semi-quote my favorite movie all at the same time.
I love that movie.
Teresajoy, how do you like your serger that you got for such a steal? I have a couple of stripwork jumpers planned for our upcoming trip and I figure a serger would take a lot less work than sewing all of those strips together (since I don't have a serger I zig-zag around every piece of fabric before I sew it together, then I sew it, then I zig-zag them together again - three steps!). I am seriously contemplating buying one but I wondered what you thought of it. My neighbor got a Huskylock (spelling?) serger for Christmas and I know that is more than I was thinking of spending but she hasn't tried it yet, she is waiting to go to a class. I had originally asked for a serger for Christmas but my morning sickness was so bad that I told my husband to forget about it since at that time I had no motivation to sew, of course now that has changed! How long will it take me to figure out how to thread it and use it? Any help is so appreciated on this!

Funny, Heather and I were just talking about my serger today! I like it, I'm not completely sure everything I can do with it yet, but it really makes finishing the seams easy! It wasn't hard to learn to thread, but it does take me awhile to thread it. Those things aren't exactly user friendly! (There are tweezers involved). I hate adjusting tension, and with 4 different threads, there is a LOT of tension to adjust! All in all though, I'm glad I bought it, but then, I only paid $50 for it! It's a Singer and so far, it seems to be a good machine. I've only had it a few months though.

Hi all,

I have been lurking since this board started. I love all the outfits you all have created. I just started sewing again in April of this year. (Sewed as a child then quit - picking it up again at 31 is not easy!;) ) I have a wonderful little one who I love to dress up- Lily Kate 1 year. I am in awe of you all. Can I join the group? Please Please pretty please!!!:flower3:

Lorna

Didn't you see my post calling all lurkers to come out of hiding????? tsk tsk tsk..... I guess you can still joing us though!

I hope this helped, even if I sound like a mean text book lady. :(

WOW!! Thanks for all that information. You didn't sound like a mean text book lady to me, just very very helpful! Now, how do I find one of those estate sales???

Annnnnd I sew because 100's of my "best friends" online sew and we would have NOTHING (:lmao: ) to talk about here if we didn't sew LOL
Yes, WHAT EVER would we talk about???

They aren't pretty, but they are my daughter's first carrots out of her garden. We planted them waaay back in the spring & they never really grew.

2007_01260077.jpg
.

Those are great carrots!!! How cool is that!

Also, since money has been tight I have been scrimping and saving like a good girl and he went and played paintball this weekend. When he said he was going to do that (and I totally think it is a hokey thing to do, it's like they are still kids again playing cops and robbers and he comes home bruised up with spots from the paintballs - how much fun is that?) I said I get park hopper passes then. I'm not normally like that but it kind of ticked me off that I'm cutting back and he is playing paintball. Of course, he would argue that my sewing/fabric habit is expensive too but that is, of course, way off base  ! I mean, I actually make something for my kids to wear so it's worht it right?
MEN! Yeah for you getting park hoppers!!

We are getting 10 day hoppers this year!! WOO HOO!!! I've never had such passes before in my life! I am BEYOND excited about this! We usually get the non expiring hoppers, but I figured that is really doesn't cost much more to get the 10 day expiring passes than the 5 day ones I was going to get!!!!

Ooops I almost forgot the other reason I sew......

I may run into Castle creations at a theme park again and we HAVE to be cute :lmao: :lmao:

TOO cute!!

Thanks everyone for the directions. Here's what I came up with using scrap fabric I had around. These will be Tink gifts for the girls.
th_DSC01256.jpg

These are great!!! I'm thinking now that I may need to make some for us. I have an ever growing list of things I need to make though, so we'll see!

I haven't caught up on the posts since I last posted, but I will in a bit. I just HAD to tell you all that
I GOT A NEW SEWING MACHINE
My dear, wonderful, amazingly generous sister let me buy her brand spankin' new Brother CS-6000i for $50!!! Actually, she said I could have it for $30, but I gave her $50!

WooHoo! What a nice sister, too. :)

BTW - You should consider having your older machine serviced so you have a back-up plus you could leave it set up to do ruffling or a similar task. I recently pulled out my old Kenmore machine to put the ruffler foot on it thinking I'd just leave it out a short time. Now, though, I'm spoiled by not having to switch out the feet or change settings on the machine whenever I want to ruffle something. I need to get the machine serviced, though, because the needle thread keeps breaking... very aggravating! :headache:

I am so excited to use it! My mom got me the JoAnn (Viking) day after Thanksgiving singer serger - well - I took it to Viking and neither they now I could get it to work right. Loose sloppy stitches - just yuck. So I traded up!!!!
DSC_2217.jpg

WOO HOOO!!! How exciting!!!

I took the fabric in and when I told the lady that I needed to return it b/c after I washed it, she cut me off to say that they didn't take back material once it had been washed. I said but I washed it and the black dye from the polka dots and scotty dogs had bled all over the material, she paused for minute and said "I'm gonna make a judgement call and give you a refund b/c I think that this is damaged". YOU BET IT IS!!!! I was seriously starting to think that they weren't going to refund my money. That material was 15.00 for 2 yards -- I never spend that much money on fabric. She gave me my money back and it got me thinking that I will be much more careful on the fabric that I buy that looks like it "might" bleed.

I was getting mad just reading your post! They should have taken it back and apologized all over the place for your inconvenience!! "Judgement call" that would have gotten me all mad! They sold you material that was defective, there shouldn't have been a problem whatsoever! At least they took it back, but it just makes me mad when they do something like that and then act like it's a big favor to you!

So I don't get in trouble, these have all been sold.

I have a separate business making purses, bags, and small luggage. The messenger bag and cube are my design. All bags are made out of rescued estate fabric, close-out fabric, and recycled samples.
These are beautiful!

I just found out an acquaintance is going to Disney two days after we return home. She has asked me before to make her DD something but I just never got around to it. I "whipped" this up today and will see if she likes it.

Sorry that the pic is sideways~
Oh, how cute is that!!! You are so sweet!
My computer connection is on the fritz, so I will make this quick. I have been working on this Nemo outfit for the past few days. I haven't finished the pants yet, but here is the top. The characters on the bottom of the dress are Nemo, the pufferfish, the pink octopus, Gill, and Dory. There is still room for one more and Ireland wants Crush..we'll see...

Has anyone ever told you that you have an adorable daughter??? ;)

I love this outfit, it is so cute!! You really did a nice job on it! I am thinking I need to make Lydia a peasant top to match her Build a Bear dress. I really like that look.

Oh, I have an Aunt Penny too. Her real name is Priscilla! The weird thing is that I was dreaming about her the other night.
That's just weird. My SIL, my kid's Aunt Penny, who's name is really Constance, has a daughter named PRISCILLA! Ok, I'm probably the only one whot thinks that is cool, but I just HAD to share! Priscilla is getting married the week after we get back from Florida and Arminda, Lydia and Tessa are going to be flower girls!

Wow you girls talk a lot. :lmao: I can't keep up with all of the posts I missed while I was at work today. :goodvibes I love the outfits posted today.....here are a few pics of my creations. Thanks for all of the compliments. If I missed any questions; resend. DH is getting irritated that I'm constantly on the computer. (He'll get over it.) :surfweb:

Yeah, husbands get use to it, don't worry about him!!!

I love your stuff! You do a great job! Lydia would love that Buzz one! She wants to be an astronaut someday. You know, when she gets older, she won't be able to wear comfortable boots, because space boots are hard and heavy. ;)

Hi Everyone!!

THanks for all the great comments!!!

You should get your hair pixied!!! It cost $7.50 - they did guys and girls - I got lots of ooohs and where did you get that done all day long!!! it was FUN to do!!!

I made our shirts!!! Its soo easy - I had one of the designers on the creative DIS designs boards make the icons for us with each person's name and favorite character (s) - they are GREAT over there, have wonderful ideas and are just sooooo nice!!!!!

Not everyone was on board with the shirts, but with that said, the trouble makers (who are 18, 15 and 14) would do most anything for aunt Wendy!!!!
What do you think Heather? Should we get pixied?? How about Barbara and Mom?

I LOVE IT!! It beeps!!!! It's SO much fun to sew on!!! How did I ever manage with that old machine? :rotfl: I can't wait to applique on it!!

In case you're wondering how she can sell it to me for $30, that's what she paid for it! She got the floor model at WalMart for $30 a while back. It didn't have a foot pedal or manual or anything with it. So, she called Brother and they sent her all of that stuff for free!

I was going to make a video showing you guys how I had fixed my old machine and you'd click on it and see that I just got a new machine. But, I was too excited to take the time to do that.

   This is how happy I am!!

Wow, you must have like the BEST SISTER EVER!!!! WOW!!!

(yeah, I'm a dork!)
Are you done with that Cinderella dress yet??

:goodvibes
No offense, I'm a cheap sucker!! Although, I don't think it's much cheaper to make some of this ourselves- by the time we buy the supplies!! If we factor in our time, we're probably in the hole! Since I started sewing, I don't know how some of the people on Voldemort (I haven't used the "code" in a while, I was missing it) sell their stuff so cheap!

I actually wonder about this too! I know how much I spend on elastic, elastic thread, thread, fabric, and my time has to be worth something and I totally wonder how people can sell things for so cheap! I guess maybe they are just starting out and hoping to gain a following/reputation? I do understand that but I don't think I would keep doing it if I wasn't making any money. On the flip side of that, I said earlier that I watch a seller whose name has the same name as a famous painting (pm me if you want to know who I am talking about or just look under custom clothes and sort by highest prices) and I seriously question the sanity of a person spending $500 for an outfit for a child (or for me actually) who will undoubtably spill something on it and outgrow it in a year! I know that when people resell her things though they usually make a good chunk of that back, but my DH would kill me! Plus I would be terrified every time they wore it that it would get stained. Actually I'm probably just jealous since I would love to buy something from her for my girls but like I said a couple of days ago, money is tight around here and prices just seem to keep going up! I heard last night on the news that they are expecting gas to hit $4.00 a gallon by this summer    ! I guess I'll be walking? On this money question......how many of you when you go to WDW get the park hopper passes? I am trying to minimize our expenses on this trip and I am thinking of skipping the park hopper passes which we have always had in the past. Any opinions on this would be appreciated!
Park hoppers are costly but worth it if you are really going to jump around from park to park. I have gone twice without them and just planned my meals etc at the park we were at during the day or for a resort. So, you can still have a great trip without it....just have to plan. I use Tour Guide Mike for planning! ;)

We are all suckers around here!

Wow what adorable outfits and your DD is just beautiful!!! We are all "suckers", maybe even cheap suckers since we make the stuff ourselves:rotfl: :rotfl: (no offense anyone,...just kidding!). Actually some of these customs just take hours of work so no wonder they are $100-$200 each! But anyways, welcome to our addiction! :surfweb:

Welcome to all the new posters (and lurkers)!

Oh I'm jealous. I really need a new serger - and a better one. I'm just about ready to commit to a purchase but I know I'll be having some "sticker shock". The one I'd love to get is almost $1000 - wwwweeeellll over my maximum. I think if I could afford that amount, I'd be more likely to buy a lower priced serger and an embroidery machine.
Lisa, GO FOR IT!!!! You make such beautiful things....but you gotta have the right machine!!! :woohoo:

Or maybe I should mix it up???? Hmmmmmmmmmm I can't decide :confused3 Do you have any thoughts on this monumentus decision????? :rotfl:

I agree, Lisa, go and get a new machine if you need it, your things are beautiful. I'm still dying over the Winnie The Pooh set you made. I would love to have 1/10 of the talent you have! Your talent definitely justifies a new machine!

I too would love to keep my kids little! I really hate the thought of them growing up. My oldest (Grace, DD4) thinks she is a teenager and can do anything she wants! She keeps telling me she is a Big Girl now and she can help with her little sister and babysit the new baby when it gets here. Thankfully she is a good girl and a big help but I don't want them getting too big too fast.

On the peasant shirts I'd do half and half depending on where you live. If you are in the south I'd maybe do one or two more short sleeves but if you are in the upper north I'd maybe do more long sleeves. In the midwest, I'd split it down the middle. How helpful was that? Probably not very!

I don't know how to quote pictures and make them smaller so I won't lmao. I loved all the little outfits! Some of you people that "whip" things up and out need to come show me how to CREEP them out!

I used my new sewing machine today. Thank you Revrob I love love love it! I did not know how badly my old machine sucked till today lmao. The only thing is sadly it can only help my sewing skills so much. ;) But they are going to get better ... I have faith! :D

I did a pair of overalls with a castle in the princess pink tulle from Hancocks. They are OK. Not scary horrible for my first try but pretty darn bad. I guess what is more important she loves them. I will probably not let her wear them anywhere but the park and to play in though.

I bought a pillowcase (little mermaid). Now we are talking about making stuff out of the standard size ones right? It just seems really big but I guess I am looking at it for a 2 year old. I got it and it is with my other stuff that I will eventually try. :)

Twob4him~ Can you make them shortsleeve and then wear a long sleeve under it? Till it gets a bit warmer. But I see you are in NJ ... how much longer do you guys have of cold? I am in Texas so my idea of a good idea may not work for you. ;)

Wow Teresa to the rescue! I am so excited for you! Hahahaha it beeps! :rotfl2:

We were both so excited when we heard it beep! It really doesn't take much to amuse us! Sawyer was pretty impressed with it too though!

I say short. That way, you could still put a long sleeve shirt underneath it, or a sweater overtop of it.

Thanks everyone....you all are very helpful! Since I am in NJ I think I will make a set with long and then the rest short. Perhaps we will win the lottery and can actually wear them in Disney????? :confused3 :rotfl: Course we dont play the lottery so that could be a problem....hmmffff....:confused3

My thought - go with long sleeve so they can be worn now and then shorten the sleeves when the weather gets warm enough. :) Of course, you can make it simpler on yourself and do short sleeves with a long sleeve tee under for the cooler weather. Did I help with my wishy washy answer? :rolleyes1

WOO HOO for the new machine! It's great isn't it!

You've GOT to post pics of the overalls! We'd love to see them.

About pillowcases - yes you use the standard size pillowcase. you end up cutting most of it out and using just a very small portion of it.

Lisa, GO FOR IT!!!! You make such beautiful things....but you gotta have the right machine!!! :woohoo:

Thank you and I'm 99% sure I'll get a new serger. I really want one that has a coverstitch option and does a better rolled hem stitch. I'm sure there are other features I'll add to the list once I start shopping. :rotfl: I'm still trying to decide if I want to keep my current serger since it does decent stitching for the basic seam finish. I guess I'll wait to see if it would be worth much as a trade-in. It could be a factor if using it as a trade-in means I can get a nicer machine than I would if I keep it. Now I just need to hold off purchasing until I can do some research. My problem is I'm too impulsive once I've mentally committed to a purchase.

I am making a peasant dress that I started last week when it was in the 80s so it is short sleeved. Now it is in the 60s and I wonder if I should have made it long sleeved! It will probably be in the 80s again next week, so I think I am ok! I vote for short sleeved with a turtleneck underneath while it is still cold. Can't wait to see it!

Lori, you are a show off! Just kidding, that is gorgeous and I can't wait to see what you create for this year (so I can CASE it, lol). I am still working on Valentine's Day! Luckily, my mother usually makes Megan a fancy Easter dress, so I will need to make her only a fun outfit.

HeatherSue: Congrats on your new sewing machine! I wish mine beeped, LOL!

Camelotcats: Your purses are so pretty and unique. I love them.

Ok, I had more to write, but I am late getting the kids off to school! :scared1:

Yikes, glad they refunded you the money....now did you buy something else while you were there or did you actually leave with money in hand??:rolleyes1 (something I never do...:rotfl: )QUOTE]

LEAVE a fabric store with money in hand?:confused3 I don't understand these words..... how does this work?:lmao:

rules to live by...
I have money, therefore I NEED fabric :lmao: :lmao:

BTW....

I want to join the "I have an Aunt Penny club". But my Aunts "real" name is Charlene. Sadly she passed away a few years ago (before she was 50). She never got to meet Morgan (or Jord LOL). She still holds a very special place in my heart. (She helped raise us when my parents spilt up).

I think Aunt Penny's are special people:hug:
