Welcome to all the new posters (and lurkers)!

I am so excited to use it! My mom got me the JoAnn (Viking) day after Thanksgiving singer serger - well - I took it to Viking and neither they now I could get it to work right. Loose sloppy stitches - just yuck. So I traded up!!!!

Oh I'm jealous. I really need a new serger - and a better one. I'm just about ready to commit to a purchase but I know I'll be having some "sticker shock". The one I'd love to get is almost $1000 - wwwweeeellll over my maximum. I think if I could afford that amount, I'd be more likely to buy a lower priced serger and an embroidery machine.

I took the fabric in and when I told the lady that I needed to return it b/c after I washed it, she cut me off to say that they didn't take back material once it had been washed. I said but I washed it and the black dye from the polka dots and scotty dogs had bled all over the material, she paused for minute and said "I'm gonna make a judgement call and give you a refund b/c I think that this is damaged". YOU BET IT IS!!!! I was seriously starting to think that they weren't going to refund my money. That material was 15.00 for 2 yards -- I never spend that much money on fabric. She gave me my money back and it got me thinking that I will be much more careful on the fabric that I buy that looks like it "might" bleed.
Hancock's refund policies stink!:headache: I was in there yesterday returning this stash of bias tape. (I went with a different color from a different store) The manager said she could only give me half the cost back, because bias tape was just on sale over the weekend!!:confused3 I was like "whatever" I can't use it & it'll just sit in my closet for years or end up at Good Will! As I was forcing a very audible sigh, my eyes looked past the cash register & low & behold.....the bleeding scotty dog/polks dot fabric was displayed as a new fabric. Top dollar per yard of course! I just wanted to scream that fabric is horrible, don't buy it! :snooty:

I wish JoAnn's was closer to my house, I'd prefer to frequent shop there instead of Hancocks. All but one local Walmart did away with their fabric centers. Geez, just when you've caught an addictive obsession with buying Disney fabrics....they make it harder to buy it!

Tadamom - I'm glad they took it back. :)

All the valentine's pics look great!

A disadvantage to buyin in ulk is you can get more than you need. And buying estate sales and close-outs usually mean you have to buy EVERYTHING, whether you want it all or not. Yes, each individual piece is inexpensive, but the initial investment is huge.

Oh, and stores usually won't give you a bolt deal.

DD wants me to make her "friend" (babysitter's daughter) a dress for the litle girl's birthday party in 2 weeks. I am already soooo far behind onmy disney customs!! :scared1: Any ideas for somehting "whip-up-able" for a 1 year old?

I just found out an acquaintance is going to Disney two days after we return home. She has asked me before to make her DD something but I just never got around to it. I "whipped" this up today and will see if she likes it.

My computer connection is on the fritz, so I will make this quick. I have been working on this Nemo outfit for the past few days. I haven't finished the pants yet, but here is the top. The characters on the bottom of the dress are Nemo, the pufferfish, the pink octopus, Gill, and Dory. There is still room for one more and Ireland wants Crush..we'll see...

I have a separate business making purses, bags, and small luggage. The messenger bag and cube are my design. All bags are made out of rescued estate fabric, close-out fabric, and recycled samples.

They are FANTASTIC!

My neighbor just got a Huskylock for Christmas but I don't know which model. It looks fantastic and I am really starting to think I may have to splurge and get one to get my Disney wear done! And if I get really good I could sell what I make and then the serger becomes a moneymaker right? That's the argument I'll give my husband anyway!

So I don't get in trouble, these have all been sold.

Your purses are great! I had a diaper bag made from a store called 1154 Lill (a Chicago store but now they have more stores around the country) where you picked out your fabric (from their collections) and style of purse and they made it for you. It was fun, kind of reminds me of yours. They had great, unusual small quantities of fabric so most purses were one of a kind. That looks like a fun hobby/business for you!

Tadamom - I'm glad they took it back. :)

What about a t-shirt dress? I think they are the easiest for me to whip up. If you wanted to spend the extra time you could applique her birthday number or name on the chest of the t-shirt.

So cute! I am contemplating a Nemo dress for my girls but we'll see what I get done (right now I'm barely started on the first outfits!). I know that if I do have time it won't have your cute appliques (terrific job by the way!) and will be much simpler! Love it!

I went back and forth between a singer that would only cost me $30 more (in addition to the $180 credit for the one I was returning) and this one that was $160 more. The one I got was originally $599 - close out for $359 - then marked down a little more for the problems. They must have a HUGE mark up on these things. I wondered if I would use it enough to justify the cost - especially since I am sewing with a singer that was DH's grandmas! I am worried that Emma won't let me sew for her much longer and I don't do much else besides clothing for her.

So cute! Love all the detail. Oh - and Crush is a MUST - we  him!

Yes - I totally agree - let me know how that works for you!;)

No offense, I'm a cheap sucker!! Although, I don't think it's much cheaper to make some of this ourselves- by the time we buy the supplies!! If we factor in our time, we're probably in the hole! Since I started sewing, I don't know how some of the people on Voldemort (I haven't used the "code" in a while, I was missing it) sell their stuff so cheap!

I actually wonder about this too! I know how much I spend on elastic, elastic thread, thread, fabric, and my time has to be worth something and I totally wonder how people can sell things for so cheap! I guess maybe they are just starting out and hoping to gain a following/reputation? I do understand that but I don't think I would keep doing it if I wasn't making any money. On the flip side of that, I said earlier that I watch a seller whose name has the same name as a famous painting (pm me if you want to know who I am talking about or just look under custom clothes and sort by highest prices) and I seriously question the sanity of a person spending $500 for an outfit for a child (or for me actually) who will undoubtably spill something on it and outgrow it in a year! I know that when people resell her things though they usually make a good chunk of that back, but my DH would kill me! Plus I would be terrified every time they wore it that it would get stained. Actually I'm probably just jealous since I would love to buy something from her for my girls but like I said a couple of days ago, money is tight around here and prices just seem to keep going up! I heard last night on the news that they are expecting gas to hit $4.00 a gallon by this summer    ! I guess I'll be walking? On this money question......how many of you when you go to WDW get the park hopper passes? I am trying to minimize our expenses on this trip and I am thinking of skipping the park hopper passes which we have always had in the past. Any opinions on this would be appreciated!

I have been busy so I haven't posted lately. I have been reading and admiring everyone's new outfits! Of Course they are all adorable!

Welcome to all of the newbies!

This post caught my attention. We never buy hoppers! It seems like it is very common for people to buy them. We never miss them but we must be really pokey because we are never able to see a whole park in one day! So after our lunch break/nap we always go back to the same park we went to that morning. We try to have two days in the Magic Kingdom and two days in Epcot. So my vote is to skip the hoppers and save your money for a nice meal! I noticed that a lot of others said to get them. But I just had to put my two cents worth in!:lmao:

I just wish we had a trip coming up! My van is still smashed up and we are just in limbo waiting for it to be fixed. It has been 11 days since the accident and my back still hurts. Friday I am going to the Chiropractor.

Oh, I have an Aunt Penny too. Her real name is Priscilla! The weird thing is that I was dreaming about her the other night.

GAH I lost the quote, but to the lady who asked about park hoppers.

We always get them. We mostly use them for freedom of making ADRs wherever we want (We prwefer world showcase restaurant, but the kids dislike most of epcot). Also, the last day or 2 of a trip, we tend to park hop and hit just the few ries the kiids want to do. We got a lotof use out of our PH thos past trip, and definitely will again.

BUT, I think it would probably be pretty easy to eliminate them if you wanted to. How much more i it to have the park hopper option?

I was the one who was asking about the park hopper passes. Since we are going during my husband's business trip he won't be with us for all of the days but my DD4 and I need passes for 8 days and he needs one for 5 (DD2 is free still!). It basically increases our ticket prices for all of us total by $135. We have always had them in the past and like other people have said, we use it mostly for eating. Right now I'm leaning towards getting them but I wanted everyone else's opinion.

I was gone from this thread for a while, since we had completed our trip, I thought "what's the point" ...I actually found myself going through some type of withdraw...NO more planing, No more looking for that perfect outfit, etc:sad: .

Then just days ago, I started asking my family (4 sisters, mom, 2 nieces) if we COULD, would they want to try to visit DW next year (January 09) EVERYONE was in, I booked our Magical Gathering this morning. YAY, I feel revived, I am planning the whole trip and will be needing matching outfits, for everyday, for each of the three 5 year old girls. CAN'T WAIT! :rotfl: :rotfl: So I am back, for ideas and inspiration.

DOODLESMOMMY---I love these outfits. Can you give us a clue who made them for you? Local? or ebay?
Everytime I think I have seen the cutest thing ever, new ones pop up, that I MUST HAVE!!:lmao: :rolleyes1

I really would like to try my hand at sewing my own outifts, I do have a sewing machine but have only made curtains...probably will just stick with the professionals though. GLAD TO BE BACK! THE ADDICTION AND A REASON TO LIVE HAS RETURNED!

Welcome back. I purchased them from fellow boutique sellers online.

Those shirts are too cute - each with a different character. How did you do that? Did you make them or buy them?

Hi Everyone!!

THanks for all the great comments!!!

You should get your hair pixied!!! It cost $7.50 - they did guys and girls - I got lots of ooohs and where did you get that done all day long!!! it was FUN to do!!!

I made our shirts!!! Its soo easy - I had one of the designers on the creative DIS designs boards make the icons for us with each person's name and favorite character (s) - they are GREAT over there, have wonderful ideas and are just sooooo nice!!!!!

Not everyone was on board with the shirts, but with that said, the trouble makers (who are 18, 15 and 14) would do most anything for aunt Wendy!!!!

I haven't caught up on the posts since I last posted, but I will in a bit. I just HAD to tell you all that
I GOT A NEW SEWING MACHINE
My dear, wonderful, amazingly generous sister let me buy her brand spankin' new Brother CS-6000i for $50!!! Actually, she said I could have it for $30, but I gave her $50!

I LOVE IT!! It beeps!!!! It's SO much fun to sew on!!! How did I ever manage with that old machine? :rotfl: I can't wait to applique on it!!

In case you're wondering how she can sell it to me for $30, that's what she paid for it! She got the floor model at WalMart for $30 a while back. It didn't have a foot pedal or manual or anything with it. So, she called Brother and they sent her all of that stuff for free!

I was going to make a video showing you guys how I had fixed my old machine and you'd click on it and see that I just got a new machine. But, I was too excited to take the time to do that.

   This is how happy I am!!
