Actually, I think this sounds like a GREAT idea! I agree - the waistband will be less bulky and more comfortable. I would place the tulle right up to where the edge of the casing will be, that way, there's no awkward gap between the casing edge and the start of the tulle. Make sense? Again, great idea - I'm totally going to give this a try when I get around to dd's Minnie twirl skirt!!

Post pics when you finish!

I will try to put up some pics. I honestly don't know when I'll get around to it.

I had mentioned wanting to do a Rock n' Rollercoaster shirt for my oldest dd (7). Well, this is it. It was a first attempt on a lot of levels -- embellishing a t-shirt with ribbons, sewing on knit, trying to do an applique. Anyway, I'm am fairly pleased except when I was adding a bit of interfacing to add the guitar something must've gotten on my ironing board. See the little spots? Any idea how I can get them out? Will a Tide stick work? Anyway, dd is thrilled. She has enjoyed looking at the pics in this thread but felt most of the clothes were too young for her. This is more age appropriate for her. I have some pink knit fabric that has silver glitter in it, and I'm going to make a scooter out of that. Should be cute. Anyway, please tell me what you think. Please do be honest and offer your advice because I want the next one to be even better.

TIA,

That guitar shirt is ADORABLE!!!!! Can't wait to see the whole outfit when you get it finished!!!

About the spot -- no advice, I have a hard time getting any kind of stain out!

Try the Tide To Go first. Then if it doesn't work, try their Bleach pen, but BE CAREFUL! The guitar is too cute to mess up.

I bought this bracelet and necklace on ebay for my daughter to wear with her outfit to WDW. I just love them. The bottle caps are double sided.

I am thinking of trying a skirt like this with a tulle middle layer. Now, I haven't done it yet, but I was going to attach the tulle to the bottom layer -- about 3 inches or so from the waist. Then I was just going to serge the other 2 layers together and make a simple casing for some elastic. I figured the waist would be less bulky this way. Like I said, I haven't tried it yet, but I think it would work. Will it not work? Do I have to make a waistband? TIA.

I make alot of the Daisy Kingdom dresses and they do a 12' net from the hem. It really makes the skirt puff out.

I got a good tip for making ribbon jeans that I thought I'd share. For safety (I guess the ribbons could get caught on slides etc.) it was suggested to attach the ribbon, on the bottom of the jeans, to velcro. Not only would it "release" if it got caught on anything, you could also make other ribbon strips to change the look/theme of the jeans. Good idea IMHO!!

I would do what SallyfromDE suggests,Mini girl. I was a child in the early 60's and tulle to far up near the waist (as in our old slips) scratched like the dickens.

Disneymagic28 I love this Minnie set...Can you pm me the seller??I Planning for the next trip..We just got back and I am ready to go again....

Hi, I made a skirt with three layers. The top layer was the red and white dot, the middle layer was the tulle, and the bottom layer was solid white.
When I made the skirt, I used a pattern like a circle skirt. The skirt is in two pieces with side seams. I sewed the top layer and the bottom layer and hemmed them both. For the tulle I wanted all white, so I took two yards and basted the edge that's open. Along the rough edges. So the bottom of the tulle was the folded edge. Then I pulled one of the strings to gather the tulle and basted it onto the bottom layer, all the way around the circle. (I wanted all of my layers the same length, I just used the tulle to give it fullness. )Then I basted on the top layer. Then I sewed all the way around sewing through all three layers. Now for the hard part. LOL. Putting on the waistband. I was trying to do it so you wouldn't see the rough edge, but I think I need to do it the old way. Anyway, if you put the waistband on the right way, your daughter won't feel any of the tulle, just the cotton or whatever you use for the skirt. I was surprised at how soft the tulle is now. I always pictured it scratchy, but the new stuff is still keeps it's shape, but it's a lot softer. I will be posting pictures soon, of my skirt. I hope this helps a little.

ok, so i think i understand (thanks! youre so good at sharing/explaining your techniques). anyway, decided to put the tulle skirt on hold- dont have any tulle yet!:rotfl: went to walmart today for light bulbs (not that that matters!:) ) and strolled thru the girls clothing to see if i could get inspired. well i found a mickey tee for my dd. it had old school mickey in a rainbow outline. anyway, i bought it because i knew i had some cool stripe fabric at home that would go perfect. i get home and decide to finally try a tshirt dress using the two. i hemmed and gathered and pinned. i took one final look before i permanently joined the two and it hit me......i should make it a tulle t shirt dress (then im trying two new things at once!).

so heres my question. i have the piece of fabric hemmed at the bottom. it is my desired length (once its sewn to tshirt). i also have it gathered at top to fit tshirt. where do i go from here? i would like to take the piece of same fabric i have left and make a top layer, tulle middle layer and use the piece i hemmed (the original piece) as bottom layer. i like the look of top layer being a little smaller so more of the tulle is exposed. (i think kinda like the jojo and minnie skirt a pp gave a link to). so do i just sew all three layers together at top and then sew that to tshirt? i was thinking about leaving some room at the top of the first layer to "fold over" the tulle and other layer, so that all raw edges are kind of tucked inside. what do ya think?

sorry again for my rambling. im such a visual learner. wish one of you ladies could just come to my home and show me how to do all of this stuff! anyone vacationing in baltimore this summer?:rotfl:

thanks again for all of your help!

Here is one of the things I just got in for dd, she loves it! I do have a quick question though. We will be going in December and would it look weird to put leggins or jeans under it with out any fringe or fabric? The seller didn't offer pants or anything, and I can't make them, but dd really wanted this one.

TIA,

Well, my nine year old was looking over my shoulder, and SHE LOVES it!!! So, there you go.

I love it too though, if you want the opinion of an old lady! You did a great job. Arminda wants me to make her one now!
