Now I'm paranoid about the BBQ dress....do the ears look even on the bodice? I measured both about 10 times!

That BBQ dress is adorable (as is the little girl who's wearing it!) I think the ears look even on the BBQ dress. I think the ears on the animal print/white pants look a little lower on the right, but it could just be the way the pants are hanging. And, honestly, once it's on and she's moving around nobody will be able to tell -- even if they are crooked.

I think you did a great job! :)

Linda I think both look perfect! No stress :thumbsup2 And remember even if they weren't straight once they are on the body it's really ahrd to tell if it's the clothes or the kids :lmao:

Linda, have you showed them to your daughter yet? If she doesn't say anything about the ears, then you're good to go!!! That's all that matters right? As for me, I think they look perfect!

Liz, are the vertical strips something I could use to make a t-shirt dress with? Would you PM me and tell me how to measure them? I would be ever so grateful!

For Jasmine fans, I found the prettiest fabric at Walmart last night on clearance for $1/yd. I will post pics later, but it's purple and turquoise wide stripes with flowers. It's not cotton, and it wasn't labeled so I don't know what it is. Dd8 had a fit over it, so I bought 3 yds and I'm going to make her a skirt to match one of her Jasmine shirts. Wish me luck!!!

Linda, Both look fine to me. Like the other's have said, if the one on the pants is a little off, nobody is going to notice when it is being worn. Really, I can't tell now and usually I am the type to notice and adjust things if they are off just a fraction of an inch.

Hi everyone. I found this great fabric today. It's like the Minnie dot, but with huge dots. I already made a skirt out of it, with white trim, and white tulle and a white underskirt. I'm still working on getting the waistband on it. LOL. maybe tomorrow...Lisa
Oh yeah, I got the fabric at JoAnn's.

i just bought some of this last weekend at joannes! i was hoping to make a patchwork minnie theme twirl skirt. id really like to make one with tulle underneath (inspired by graciegirls halloween one with the orange dots several pages back). anyway, when i started chatting with the lady at joannes and explained im kinda new to sewing, but ive managed 2 twirl skirts so far andi wanted to try tulle, she looked like this:scared1: she said tulle was "very hard to work with and you need lots and lots and lots of it" so maybe i should wait to try it!:confused3

so my question to you (youre always so helpful), if im making a twirl skirt and i want a middle tulle layer, how could i do it so it doesnt rub my daughters sensitive skin? do you know of a pattern that would be easier (one similar to graciegirls). i know someone referenced a poodle skirt pattern a few pages back, but i havent been able to find that and im visual, not creative, so i wasnt sure how i would make that work anyway.

so sorry to ramble! thanks in advance for any help! (others feel free to offer advice too!)

Here are some outfits I made for DD and her BF when we went in December. The idea was to do a winter inspired Jasmine outfit.
Anyways, the girls loved them and they looked great and not so hard to do.

Like another poster said, it wouldn't be hard to take a basic dress pattern and do a sheer overlay of fabric and add beading or other embellishments.
BTW, they both wear a 10/12.
I make all of DD's things because she still likes to play dress up, but they don't make costumes really for that size.

I bought all the fabric at Joanns around Halloween because they have great sales on costume fabrics. There is bead fringe at the waist and then I also used different silver trims.
I used a regular clothing pattern that had a cropped top with it, just lengthened the sleeves on it and made the pants a little looser fit.

Hi, I made a skirt with three layers. The top layer was the red and white dot, the middle layer was the tulle, and the bottom layer was solid white.
When I made the skirt, I used a pattern like a circle skirt. The skirt is in two pieces with side seams. I sewed the top layer and the bottom layer and hemmed them both. For the tulle I wanted all white, so I took two yards and basted the edge that's open. Along the rough edges. So the bottom of the tulle was the folded edge. Then I pulled one of the strings to gather the tulle and basted it onto the bottom layer, all the way around the circle. (I wanted all of my layers the same length, I just used the tulle to give it fullness. )Then I basted on the top layer. Then I sewed all the way around sewing through all three layers. Now for the hard part. LOL. Putting on the waistband. I was trying to do it so you wouldn't see the rough edge, but I think I need to do it the old way. Anyway, if you put the waistband on the right way, your daughter won't feel any of the tulle, just the cotton or whatever you use for the skirt. I was surprised at how soft the tulle is now. I always pictured it scratchy, but the new stuff is still keeps it's shape, but it's a lot softer. I will be posting pictures soon, of my skirt. I hope this helps a little.

This thread is AMAZING!! I love everything on here, you are all very, very talented. Now since you are all so talented I thought I would go ahead and ask you all two questions.

1. I want to try and make some hats in the minnie dot fabric that would look cute with all those twirl skirts and whatnot. Have any of you made anything that you could share pictures of or "how-to's".

:tigger:

I haven't read all the way to the end of this thread yet, but in case it hadn't been posted, here is a page with directions on making a cute little hat:

HLAuburn - I love your outfit!! I don't sew much either -all thumbs! How did you do the Mickey heads? Did you make those or were they pre-made? Is the ribbon on the shirt glued or sewn on? Again cute outfit!!

Thanks! I actually bought the Mickey heads on eBay. The seller is paulelyseandi. She doesn't have any up right now, but I'm sure if you email her she could list some. The ribbon and rick rack is actually glued on and then I stitched over the rick rack to secure it, and that stitched the ribbons down too, just to secure them. You could easily do they whole outfit with no sewing, but I had my machine out, so I just went over the things that were glued just to hold them down better.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have anymore questions...I'm so glad you like the outfit. I can't wait for DD to wear it at AK!

Hi everyone! Just wanted to thank everyone for posting their outfits and bows!! So fun! I have been inspired to make my 2 y/o dd several outfits. I haven't made any Disney theme yet (we're not going until Dec) but have bought fabric for a couple. I just need to post more so I can attach the pics of the outfits I've made!

Keep up the good work, everyone! Love seeing what everyone's made!

WOO HOOO!! I have actually looked through all the posts!! There are so many wonderful outfits on here!

I am thinking of trying a skirt like this with a tulle middle layer. Now, I haven't done it yet, but I was going to attach the tulle to the bottom layer -- about 3 inches or so from the waist. Then I was just going to serge the other 2 layers together and make a simple casing for some elastic. I figured the waist would be less bulky this way. Like I said, I haven't tried it yet, but I think it would work. Will it not work? Do I have to make a waistband? TIA.

Actually, I think this sounds like a GREAT idea! I agree - the waistband will be less bulky and more comfortable. I would place the tulle right up to where the edge of the casing will be, that way, there's no awkward gap between the casing edge and the start of the tulle. Make sense? Again, great idea - I'm totally going to give this a try when I get around to dd's Minnie twirl skirt!!

Post pics when you finish!
