I have really enjoyed reading this thread and have so many ideas for new things. I sew, but my mom is really the seamstress around my house. She's been sewing since she was 8, so she has a lot of experience and is SO much faster than I am, so I usually have her make things for my girls.

Anyway, I saw someone selling a cute outfit on eBay and just had to have my mom try to make one for my girls. Well, she just sent me a picture of my niece modeling it and it turned out really cute. I should be getting them in the mail today or tomorrow, since we're leaving on the Magic on Saturday.

I know, and my mom was cursing me afterwards. It took a lot of time to make it, so I can understand the $100 price tag. And, I just came up with this about 2 weeks ago, and she lives in VA (we're in FL), so she only had about a week to make them both. Thankfully, she works cheap, and since we'll be going to Key West on the cruise, they have a Fresh Produce clothing store there, and my mom loves FP t-shirts. So, I'll buy her a couple and she'll be happy.

I can understand the price tag. I know some folks get upset or question my prices, but when doing applique you have a lot of work to do. It's very time consuming. It's a lot more difficult than most people think. I enjoy sewing but when I sell my items, I really take a hit in the pocketbook sometimes. I've recently joined a selling group, to try to get more of my work out there.

Oh yeah, I completely understand. My mom does a lot of sewing for the girls, and it's amazing how many people don't know how to do it, but also don't understand the time involved. My mom offers friends & family pretty cheap prices, but when she does a project for work, she can charge a pretty hefty fee for her expertise.

I just sewed across the top and bottom of the ribbon. It stops at the side seam of the tee and the ends are folded under. You can kinda see it on the right side. Hope this makes sense.

Thanks! That makes sense! I never even thought of just folding it under. I can barely see on the right where you did that.

I felt like I was paying not only for their time but their expertise too. I can't even sew on a button!

Keep in mind that some Ebay'ers don't show they do Disney stuff but if you email them they usually will. I found my all my outfits but one that way. I liked their style and then emailed to see if they could Disney-iz it!

I watch e-bay all the time for custom outfits. The prices are very high, but one can tell there is a lot of detail. I have found it is cheaper to try to get a "re sell" than brand new or designed especially for your little one. I have gotten a couple of adorable outfits that have stated something wrong with one snap etc. Many buyers are put off by that. Best deal I got was a hand appliqued Nemo, that was listed as having a broken metal piece on the overall . It went for 5 bucks. All I did was use and old buckle from an outgrown pair of overalls and wound the jeans part through the loop. I then did it on the second strap as well just so the two exterior buckles matched. I knew I was taking a chance, but I thought "for 5 bucks, I'll try" Well DD wore it to Seaworld and stopped traffic. I have seen similar Nemo overalls go from anywhere 25-100 bucks.:goodvibes

I do think some things are pricey just by the name or group that sells them. Don't get me wrong, they are beautiful and must take a ton of time, but I would never pay 100-200 for an outfit of any kind for my two year old.

Wouldn't it be great to customize overalls for Epcot, MGM & Animal Kingdom?
I think we could come up with some great ideas. Hmmmm.....If we only could devote 8 hours a day dreaming up custom outfits for Disney.

All of these outfits are just the beez kneez, but, what about a 7yo in 1st grade? Is my DD too old for these outfits? I have seen most of the boutique sellers stop at size 6. I love to sew for her, but wonder if I am pushing the envelope if I do these super over the top things.

I've emailed a couple of sellers on Ebay and asked if they could do a larger size and most of them said yes.

I always do larger sizes if asked. I see a lot of things on Ebay that I would like to wear too. LOL. I started making clothes for my daughter because I couldn't afford it. There's no way that I would spend $200 on any outfit, not even for myself.
Something said something about and Epcot outfit. I actually bought silver fabric to make the Epcot ball and every time I open the drawer, I see it in there all the time, and I'm kicking myself that I haven't used it yet.

That would be a really unique outfit!

When your kids wear their really cute custom outfits for character meals, etc. do they wear them all day or do you change them for the day?

I planned to have my dd wear hers all day but some of my friends have been telling me that my dd will be uncomfortable.

My DSIL is going to let my niece wear her princess gown for the Askerhus meal only. They're going at the end of May and it's too darn hot to let a child wear a long dress.

I have clip art & I wanted to try iron-ons from the computer, I am not qualified to sew (I don't even have a sewing machine) Just wondering if anyone has done it b4

I haven't done it with Disney clip art but I have with other types and it came out really good. Remember if there's writing to print it out using the mirror image feature or the writing will print backward.

I have done iron-ons before learn from my mistakes.

1. Printers don't print white. My son was having a pirate b'day party 2 years ago and I was going to put a skull & crossbones on a black t-shirt. Didn't think about the white not being there. Had to use a white shirt instead.

2. For washing purposes, wash on delicate/gentle and hang to dry.

3. Sometimes businesses that do transfers and things will press it for you for a cheaper rate.

Good luck!!!

There is an entire board dedicated to this. Check out the disigns (designs?) board. I made t-shirts for all of my family for each day of our last trip. Really easy to do!
