 Sometimes I use steam-a-seam.
great applique adhesive for quick non-sew outfits OR with sewing or satin/applique stitch. (usually, I use wonder-under, if I'm stitching, though)
it's alot like wonder-under & heat&bond, but it's NOT re-positional OR removal.
make absolutely sure you have it set right before you iron it onto the clothing!

steam-a-seam : iron onto the back of the fabric. cut out the shape you need. peal off paper. iron the new applique onto outfit (adhesive side down). no need to stitch. (stitches great, too, if you wish) wears & washes great! acts like it's own stabilizer on those tshirts, too!

it's available in 1/2" & 1/4" wide spools, sheets (9"x12" or so) or on big rolls.
the narrow spools are wonderful for ribbons & trims, too! :)

try to keep it off your iron when it's without it's paper-backing = it CAN get messy, but it's fine if you just pay attention to avoid that.

need more stabilization on tshirt knits when you sew/applique stitch on them ?
Try this : after the applique is adhesed to the ouside, turn it inside out, use a light iron-on interfacing (trimmed 1" larger than the applique area) *AND/OR* use a larger piece of tear-away interfacing ... some people use "Solvy". The basic idea is to keep the fabric from stretching where the satin (zig-zag) stitch goes, to help prevent "ripply or warbly" stitch rows.

hope that helps! :)

Have any of you seen this youcanmakethis website yet ? many many great ideas for creative minds! I love it!

Does anyone have any hints on how to applique onto a t-shirt? Do you use a stabilizer? Wonder Under? Heat'n'Bond? After the thing is stuck on, do you use a satin stitch around it? I know I need to get that ebook on applique the easy way, but the whole point is to save money!

The dvd i bought with instruction on how to make them use heat n bond light and than you stitch around it.

To everyone who has sent me a PM, check your emails and Happy Sewing! If I missed anyone, please PM me again.

I made this myself. It was really easy. I make custom bows so I just used the grosgrain ribbon. It was cut into 4" pieces and then sewn onto a piece of elastic.

I love those! I made my daughter a pair of capri's to wear to her brother's t-ball games! They turned out sooooo cute and they are soooo easy to make!

Are you saying that you iron them on in layers with something like Heat and Bond fusible web? Like interfacing but double-sided stickiness?

I could do this.

Sorry, been out of town and away from the boards. I used heat n bond. I don't know if it is because my package is old or what but lately it seems to not stick well at all. I have never used anything else and the overalls have held up great though. It is mainly the ironing the piece onto the overalls where I have the issue and I can just hold it and sew, it adheres great to the fabric first.

I started to think that heatNbond was reformulating their products = since ALL my packages I've purchased over the last year or so, ALL started lifting right away & were not sticking well, to anything. finally, I called the company, they said it was "most likely caused by the humidity in their shipping warehouses &/or notions distributor's warehouses".
I used to use it all the time ... and some ppl still live by the stuff =)
nowadays, personally, I just use Wonder-Under and Steam-A-Seam (permanent!), without problems. =)

Just a head's up: Joann's has thier character fabric on sale at 30% off this week. There are some really cute designs!

:goodvibes: Also, Hobby Lobby's website has a coupon you can print out & take to the store with you = 40% one item. At the store near me, I use this on a big piece of fabric, like 5-7 yards, or more ... and they take the 40% off the entire yardage of that one fabric.

I will certainly be looking at Hobby Lobby for some character fabrics. Hancock's is all we have here besides some heirloom shops I frequent...they won't have Mickey Mouse stuff there though!

Hello All!

The instructions for the overalls are pretty popular here! I've tried to respond to everyone's PM rather quickly but I will be leaving for my next Disney adventure on Friday morning and will not be able to respond until the 18th.

Is there anyone who already has the file that will be willing to take over for me until I return? Thanks in advance!

I got one outfit finished!!!

Parker modeling her new Mickey outfit!!

You can see in this one that her panties (or whatever you want to call them) are in the coordinating blue color.

She threw me a kiss!!!

I am also making my niece an outfit like this too except the material on hers will be flipped. She will have a solid blue top w/Mickey print ruffle & back ties and her panties will be in the Mickey print. I am also going to make my son a pair of shorts out of the Mickey print! I can't wait until I get them all done!!!

That is so stinkin' cute!!!! Great job!

VERY CUTE!! May I ask, how do you get your ruffles? I usually pin mine, which takes forever, I am thinking there must be an easier way. Thanks :goodvibes jen

Thanks!!! Every time I look at it - I just giggle! I can't wait for the kids to wear them in Disney!!!!

Also, it looks like we will be in Disney the exact same time! We leave May 5 and our first day in the park will be May 6!! We are staying at Pop the first night and Saratoga Spring the rest of the time!!

That make me tired thinking about that. Not sure if this way will be any quicker for you but it is the way my Home Ec. teacher taught us in high school. I hope I can explain this:

Measure out the width you want the ruffle and double it - then cut. You will need to make sure that the material you cut is a lot longer than the width of your outfit since you want it to ruffle. Put your machine on the longest stitch and sew the edges together. BE SURE AN DON'T BACK & FORWARD STITCH BECAUSE YOU WILL BE PULLING THE THREADS. Start out by making the hanging strings longer than normal since you are going to pull them. Sew all the way to the end of the fabric and cut the strings longer. DON'T BACK AND FORWARD STITCH ON THE OTHER END EITHER! Take one end of the ruffle and find the string that will pull through the fabric the easiest. Pull it little and then move the material along to ruffle it. Do this the whole length of your fabric. Be careful not to pull to hard b/c strings can break and you will have to start all over. When you get your ruffle how you want it, pin to the garment and sew on.

Man, I hope I haven't confused the devil out of you. I am no teacher!!!!
