How did you make this? I looked for a pattern on line but couldn't find one.
TIA!!

Umm.. pattern?? what's a pattern?? :lmao: Seriously though I usually totally BOTCH patterns and do much better when I just wing it :) For this dress I took a white t-shirt.. cut out the skirt piece.. appliqued it, sewed it into a *circle*, gathered it to fit the t-shirt, sewed it onto the t-shirt, added the hem detail and then added the ribbon sash.

I am so glad someone else sews the way I do!

I made these for our December trip. Not too fancy or frilly, but my idea was to make "character inspired" vests for them. DD's fave is Minnie and her friends fave is Belle.

Love the ideas on here, I plan to show DD the thread so she can get some ideas. I plan to make her several outfits for our summer trip.

I made this myself. It was really easy. I make custom bows so I just used the grosgrain ribbon. It was cut into 4" pieces and then sewn onto a piece of elastic.

I love sewing and have made my DD7 many heirloom dresses with smocking and embroidery but this is a whole new field! I love the idea of using wild colors and lots of ruffles. Luckily she likes that stuff too! I went to youcanmakethisdotcom and had the best time! Unfortunately, most of the patterns are for the 6 and under bunch! I can adapt!

Zanytoes, I have to have a pattern. And I have to have something I can copy. I have the mechanical skills, just no imagination! HA! I guess that's why I read through this thread every other day.

I love all the outfits.. There are so many talented Moms out there! I just made this for my daughter for our Disney trip..

Very cute outfit! Did you buy that video or just make the design up yourself? Either way, she looks great! And in the snow! We almost never have snow here. Just ice storms.

:thumbsup2 Thanks for that website. Most of the clothes were too young for DD but I loved the pinecone one they had under home stuff. I might get that and make those for Christmas presents. I also love looking at all the ideas. DD has an American Girl doll though & so she would so love to make clothes for her dolls. She is also wanting to really learn how to sew, she made pillows for everyone for Christmas this year and they will be doign sewing in home ec. soon. She can't wait. Although, I did warn her they way I've taught her may not be the proper way but it works for me. :rotfl:

I do need a pattern but I always screw up shirts, maybe I should try winging it & doing what I think is logical. It might actually turn out better.

Sometimes the patterns confuse me more than if I just did it probably. I did take a Suddenly You're Sewing class when DD was little and it was a very good class. I just didn't really have a lot of time but I did actually retain some of the things in my brain but definitely not everything.

I like the Applique stuff -- that looks like it would be so easy & you could really customize stuff. Never gave it a thought before.

Keep the pictures coming! :thumbsup2

Thank you! I designed it myself with the Princess fabric and made the castle on th back! What is the video?? about the snow thats all we have gotten 3 inches and it was so nice out yesterday we got in a few pictures!

OK, this sounds stupid, but when you all are talking about applique, does that mean you are custom making the pictures that you are then sewing onto the outfits? Or is it something different? I have a sewing machine(currently collecting dust!) but I think that I could do this and the outfits are SOOOOO cute!!! You all are so creative, thanks for this thread!!!!

On my outfits the pictures are custom made, they are pieced together with different fabrics. It isn't nearly as hard as you might imagine.

I love this thread! As a mom of four girls and two boys I can see that I could get very busy just making the designs I ABSOLUTELY LOVE! Some of these are in my "Can't live without for next trip" category! I didn't realize we had so many creative sewing moms on here! I've done mostly quilting but I am definitely going to try my hand at some of these super cute designs! Thanks to all posters!

If no one minds my asking, how much do outfits like these cost to buy?

HI!

The ones I have bought range from $30 to $200...but I have seen many sets go for way over that, up into the hundreds just depending on the popularity of the designer and the set!

Are you saying that you iron them on in layers with something like Heat and Bond fusible web? Like interfacing but double-sided stickiness?

I could do this.

Does anyone have any hints on how to applique onto a t-shirt? Do you use a stabilizer? Wonder Under? Heat'n'Bond? After the thing is stuck on, do you use a satin stitch around it? I know I need to get that ebook on applique the easy way, but the whole point is to save money!

I'm sorry I am only a buyer...I wish I could give you ladies some sewing tips but I cant sew a staright line!! LOL!

Jessica

I don't sew, either. But---I can say that the Wonder-under or fusible webbing is needed. I have some things that were appliqued by one ebayer without it and it looks sloppy after washing (by hand).

Also, my aunt folds the edges under, then does the wonder-under, then sews all around with an applique stitch. Hers look very professional and wash well.

Good luck!
