That make me tired thinking about that. Not sure if this way will be any quicker for you but it is the way my Home Ec. teacher taught us in high school. I hope I can explain this:

Measure out the width you want the ruffle and double it - then cut. You will need to make sure that the material you cut is a lot longer than the width of your outfit since you want it to ruffle. Put your machine on the longest stitch and sew the edges together. BE SURE AN DON'T BACK & FORWARD STITCH BECAUSE YOU WILL BE PULLING THE THREADS. Start out by making the hanging strings longer than normal since you are going to pull them. Sew all the way to the end of the fabric and cut the strings longer. DON'T BACK AND FORWARD STITCH ON THE OTHER END EITHER! Take one end of the ruffle and find the string that will pull through the fabric the easiest. Pull it little and then move the material along to ruffle it. Do this the whole length of your fabric. Be careful not to pull to hard b/c strings can break and you will have to start all over. When you get your ruffle how you want it, pin to the garment and sew on.

Man, I hope I haven't confused the devil out of you. I am no teacher!!!!

:scared1: that sounds soo easy!! I know exactly what you are talking about! I am a self taught sew-er, so I don't know all the tricks. Thank you sooo much:hug: I think I will start a dress for my daughter tonight just so I can try out the ruffles:goodvibes THANK YOU!!!!! jen

I'm sooo glad you understood that garble (that's what it felt like anyway). I love to do ruffles, I think they add sooo much to something simple (like the top I made). Just gives it that extra PUNCH it needs!!! Post some pics after you finish your ruffle!!

I got one outfit finished!!!

Parker modeling her new Mickey outfit!!

You can see in this one that her panties (or whatever you want to call them) are in the coordinating blue color.

She threw me a kiss!!!

OMG!!! The outfit is too cute!!! And the little model is beautiful!! :)

Well, I bought my own machine this weekend, I got tired of using my mom's. I 'm attempting a Curious George outfit for DD's birthday first before I start on the princess/Disney stuff. I'll post a picture when I'm done!!

Just gorgeous Tadamom!!! Fabulous and what a cutie! Gotta know, where'd the fabric come from so I can copy?

I do my ruffles a little different. I do measure the garment hem or wherever for the length I need. So if my skirt measures 40 inches I cut enough for 80. I sew the ends of the ruffle together and make a big loop. I pin my 2 edges(seams) to match the garment, then I pin only the center and 2 or three places on either side of the center line. This way when I'm sewing I just gather it as I go along. It works every time. Lisa

OMG! Is there a smilie that has a jaw dropping to the floor? These are so amazingly cute - how did my girls get to be almost 3 1/2 and me not get them custom clothes? Here I was thinking I was hot because I FINALLY learned how to make tie dye t-shirts. Insert <duh> here!

My sewing machine and I totally do not get along. It likes to bite me. Alot.

How well does fabric glue work? I'm a scrapbooker, so I'm familiar with paper piecing, and I think I could do the same with fabric, it would just be a matter of getting the fabric to stay on . . . the fabric.

Thanks for sharing the pictures - very, very, VERY cute!

I have thought about doing this before, but I am to afraid of having a non-ruffle spot. Like If I ran out of material.. Do you use a serger to do your ruffles? :goodvibes jen

OMG, the outfits on this thread are soooo cute! I think I'm going to have to comission my mom to make a custom outfit for Emily for our October trip. :)

I got it at Hancock Fabrics. The one next to may house is going out of business so I got it 30%. I think it was around $6.99 a yard. I just loooooooove this fabric!!!!

I see that you are from Huntsville - I am originally from Florence and Killen. I lived there for 30 years before I moved to Atlanta! I looooooooove Alabama!! War Eagle Baby!

You know, I think that is actually how I was taught but have forgotten about the pinning the center thing. I am going to have to remember to do that next time b/c I can't tell you how many times I had to pull some out b/c I gathered too much and it was too short! Thanks for the reminder!!!

I have made a shirt with a Mickey head on it before and I used "wonder under". (I believe that is what it was called) After I got the Mickey head on, I went around it on my sewing machine with my zig-zag stitch to give it the sewn on look.

Where are you near in Atlanta? I understand if you don't want to say. I am in Winder now, a bit north on 85.

The outfit is adorable! I love the fabric! I remember you posting it before and meant to go and take a look as it matches our bedroom quite well!

RUFFLES - I do the same idea kind of but I use dental floss. Sew it on with zigzag, going over the floss, then pull the floss at the end. Pin and sew.

Hi, sorry I don't have a website, I try just to create whatever I find appealing at the time, or whatever my clients want. I love just putting things together... I'm glad you liked the Aloha outfit. It was one of my favorites.

I have used a serger in the past, but we just don't get along. I'm more comfortable using a regular sewing machine. The inside seams aren't as professional looking, but that's just what I'm comfortable using. I have been thinking about trying one again though.

Just wanted my fellow boutique/disney/sewing fanatics to know that yesterday at WalMart I got overalls on clearance for $3.00! These are a little better than basic (a few details on the back pockets) and will be PERFECT to try the boutique overall ideas on. They had all sizes (4--16).

Wow!!! That's a great deal! I wish I was into the overall thing - but I'm not!

That is a great deal. I think I made one pair of overalls, but sadly I think in florida it's just too hot to wear them. My poor daughter wore a custom pair that was made for her, and we had to change her into another outfit at the park. She was sweating, so bad. Thanks for the tip though...I may just have to get a pair to two tonight if our store has them.
