LadyRob,
That is so cute! I am very impressed with this skirt. I wonder what you said you would do different next time? I would love to try one of these.

OK, I couldn't take it anymore! I had to make a Disney outfit! It should still fit in Dec - at least I hope! I used the new Mickey fabric from Wal-Mart. I blinged the t-shirt with some iron-on crystals. I can't wait to try it on her!

It's not crooked in person, just hanging kind of wonky.

Okay, this is adorable! How did you do it? Pretend you are sewing challenged... :)

I just wanted to say you ladies are soooo talented. I am so jealous that I can't do any of this stuff! I love this thread and love seeing the things you all come up with. Everything is gorgeous!

I took my daughter's waist measurement and doubled it for the width of the skirt, then I measured how long I wanted it and cut my fabric, adding enough for seam allowances on both sides and the top and bottom (add enough for elastic casing.) Then I sewed up the sides and hemmed the bottom. Next, I cut the tulle to the length I wanted (a few inches shorter than the skirt) then I gathered the tulle and sewed it a couple inches from the top of the skirt. I drew a line with sewing chalk for placement. Next, I cut the top fabric a couple inches shorter than the tulle, lined up the raw edges of the top and bottom fabric, folded over for the elastic casing and sewed that, leaving an opening to thread the elastic through, then thread the elastic and sew up the opening. Hope that makes sense.

I LOVE it. I especially love the Mickey bling. How did you do that? Please share! Are they permanent?

GREAT job!

I was thinking of making some with a waistband as well. Could you post a picture?

I will post pictures, I am just on a serious time constraint right now due to circumstances. I am planning on posting pictures I take after next weeks vacation. If I can get them sooner, I will. !

Another nice job. I love this. Strangely enough I think my oldest (7) may wear something like this. I'll have to show her and ask what she thinks, and I'd have to turn the skirt into a skort beause she doesn't like short skirts. It is definitely do-able though.

Thanks for the inspiration.

My dd saw this picture and begged me for this! She said she had to have it :)

I better stop looking at this thread when she is around!

I wanted to join in on the swap of YCMT.com but I lost the thread! Can someone redirect me? I tried to save it to my favorites, but the thing won't work.

Anyone?

Okay, don't laugh!

Here is my knock-off of the tutu twirl skirt. Not sure where DD will wear this but I had alot of fun making it. There are a couple things I will do different next time but for the most part, it came out pretty good. I was too chicken to make the tulle shorter than the underskirt. Once I get my rotary cutter and mat, I will try another one.

I LOVE this! It is soooo pretty! I think it is perfect just the way it is, your DD is a lucky girl! princess:

Do any craft stores sell the Mickey Head shaped crystals, I am not crafty but would love to somehow adhere that to a shirt for my DD. I guess if they don't I could do it myself.

I have two questions about making a patchwork twirl skirt:

To whoever owns the YCMT Euro Patchwork Twirl Skirt Pattern. (I saw someone owned it on the exchange thread, but don't remember who and the thread is now removed.)
--------
Are the instructions worth the $10? Are they much different than the free instructions found at these sites? (I'm wondering if it's worth buying.)

These instructions aren't for a *patchwork* skirt, but I'm thinking I could probably figure out the patchwork part.

To grandmouse(?) or whoever knows about making patchwork by sewing together the strips then cutting squares.
-------------
Sewing together long strips before cutting your squares sounds like an excellent time-saving tip, but I have a question...

My mom always told me that you have to sew in reverse for a few stitches at the beginning/end of each seam to "lock" it, or else it will unravel. If you sew one long seam (on the strips) then cut that seam (into squares), the ends will not be locked. Does this create a problem? Or, do the seams lock themselves back together when you sew in the opposite direction to join the tiers?

Did that make any sense? I just don't want to have my patchwork unravel at the seams!

To Carrie and the others who can't get the swap link to work: YCMT Legal posted a "please cease and desist" note on the thread this morning due to copyright infringement issues, so the swap thread was removed.

I haven't seen them anywhere around here. I traced the Mickey head onto my shirt and placed the crystals individually - yeah, that was a pain, but so worth it, I think.

I know what you mean, but it won't matter. First, when you sew your three squares together, (or four or more, depending on how many different fabrics you are using) you will make the strips the lengths you need. Then when you sew your three long strips together to make the tiers, you will be sewing over the seams where you originally joined the strips before you cut the squares and that will sew over where you cut. The only "backstitching" you will need to do is at the end of the seams joining the tiers (and your top and bottom hems and casing). I hope that makes sense.
