Sally - where do you shop for your fabrics? i am in Wilmington all the time cause I work at AI duPont Childrens Hosp - fabric row did have some fancy fabric, but Im not sure of the prices - I was pretty overwhelmed by the amounts of fabric there, just wasnt really what I was looking for.....but they had stores that were so stuffed, that you could hardly walk around in them without turning sideways to squeeze through the isles!!!!!

GET OUT!!! My sister Tricia works at AI duPont Childrens Hospital!!

I shop ALOT on the "the site that shall not be named". JoAnnes and Walmart, which is supposed to go out of fabrics in January. Then if I go anywhere, I usually hunt down a fabric store.

The Philly stores sound like the ones I've seen in NYC. I've always been too intimidated to go into them. It's been years since I was there tho'.

Are you kidding me? You get to -45? Seriously, how do you go outside? And to top it off, you were in Hawaii before:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Somebody is seriously laughing at you I'm afraid! Talk about extremes, yikes! Is it actually safe to leave when it is that cold? I really can't imagine. I lived in Cleveland for a year and thought I was going to die from the cold, but they have nothing on you guys!

Hey no laughing! Okay, I guess you can since I already laugh at us!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: We are trying to see how many extremes when can do. First, born and raised in California. Then we moved to Germany! Then Hawaii, and now Alaska! Talk about seeing the world!!

People generally don't believe us when we talk about those temperatures. The record low here is -66. Nice huh? We have a lot of layers in very good quality materials. Then we basically run from the car to the house (But careful, the ice is slippery!!). We have autostarts in our cars so they run while you are inside the store. I pretty much just stay in if at all possible. The kids go out to recess until -20. And poor dh works with helicopters so he's outside a lot. One day at work last winter with the wind chill factored in it was -88 :scared1: and they were outside working. Insanity!!

2 more years and I'm outta here. I love Alaska, but the interior is just too cold for me to be in this area permanently!

I swear one of these days I'll actually get back on topic!! :rolleyes1

Here are our Halloween pictures, after being on this thread so much I felt the need to sew all three costumes this year! My "little stinker" aka skunk got a ton of compliments, but everyone commented on how original they all were! I think the all liked the fact that no one else had the same costume as they did. OK my pics are done downloading now so here we go...

DD in her tooth fairy costume and "tooth" treat bag.

DS as a baseball, my DH is a baseball coach so everything around here revolves around baseball!

th_IMG_9718.jpg

And here is my little skunk, I have to show more than one pic of him because he was just so dang cute!!!

th_IMG_9785.jpg

Here he is crawling around and looks pretty skunk-like. :goodvibes

th_IMG_9712.jpg

One of my DS actually out trick or treating, he loved the houses that let you pick out of the bowl, he grabbed handfuls and everyone thought he was so cute they let him keep it all! Mommy liked that too!!!

One last picture of all three kids.

th_IMG_9769.jpg

I forgot about your tooth fairy! That is so cute! Great job on them all!

I love all of the gorgeous creations everyone has come up with! WOW! I can only aspire to be as talented. Tom I love the holiday dress!!!!

I must be the slowest at completing projects  I just finished my second sewing project and would love to hear feedback from the experts out there! I am pairing this top with black capris. DH cut me off at the knees taking the picture. Should I add anything to the capris? Would that be overdoing it? Or leave them as is? :confused3

pinkmickeydot-1.jpg

White doesn't bother me. There is always Carbona. Besides, it's usually for something special and how often do they wear them? I made the Cinderella dress and can't get Kirsta back into it because it's for DisneyWorld. Even after we come home. She could wear it to church a few times before it gets cold.

I'm not familiar with Carbona. I've tried bleach and Oxyclean with only some success. I made her a cute summer set with white twill capris that are probably going to Goodwill because the back of the pants have what look like rust spots. I doubt they are rust but that's the color and I have no idea where they came from.

I think he must have a custom bib to put over each dress at dinner time lol

A bib isn't enough - see above. :rotfl:

Don't you all know that princesses don't get dirty? :rotfl:

Actually, I had a whole bolt of white fabric, and I am trying to get rid of it!:goodvibes

Zoe does really well but I decided my concern over spots puts too much stress on her so I don't use white much. I love the look of it on her, though, so maybe I need to buy a bolt of fabric and consider the clothes I make with it as "disposable". :rolleyes1 I already use tees with stains as the base for applique so maybe I could hide stains that way, too. ;) As long as the stains are in a place where they can be reasonably hidden, they work.

Ok, I know that it's taken FOREVER for me to post pictures, but here are a few, and I'll get some more up soon.
These are pictures of the outfits that Nana made for the girls for the pumpkin patch and MNSSHP!!

oh I love these mickey halloween pumpkins! Nana did an awesome job!

Hi Everyone,

Anyone live near Philly? I went to "fabric row" today, and I have to say I was disappointed. Like really no disney fabric - lots of furniture fabric and fancy stuff - and then the cotton stuff was like 7.99/yard. I guess I was thinking tons of cool fabric and cheap prices~~oh well,,,,did I miss anything??????

Wendy:confused3

I live in Wilmington and always wondered about Fabric Row. Not just disney, but fabrics for special outfits. Guess I've never missed anything. All we have here is a super JoAnnes that is crappy. The store is always filthy with everything laying all over the floor.

Fabric row is a mess unless you know what you want and you know someone in the shop. Years ago I got fabric from one of the shops, but I had to ask for a contact person who then helped me. I made lots of formals then. But to try to find something else....forget it! It is too overwhelming and like you said, you can't move!! And there is now such thing as browsing...everything is shoved somewhere out of view.

AI duPont Childrens Hosp is where DGS Nicholas goes when he is hospitalized. DD Molly had the choice between there and CHOP and duPont is where she chose. He's been hospitalized twice now with his asthma and he had a sleep study and reflux test with the wire down into his stomach...poor little guy...but everyone there is so nice. Molly lives in Springfield, Delaware County PA...

I find I do better driving to Walmart to find Disney fabric. Other than that it's Joann's. And I buy a lot on the internet too.

Susan

They are beautiful. How did she do those pumpkins on the shirts? They look so perfect!

Hi!! I finally found out how to tell if you are addicted to fabric LOL.:lmao:

I went to Walmart today and bought 49.75 yards of Halloween Fabric there are 6 different designs all 100% cotton. But I only paid 50cents a yard. They were normally $2.00 and was 75% off.  I am still so happy!! Ok did I go overboard??

HTH Someone I would love to go to more Walmarts but they are over an hour away.

Only 70 Days Till FIRST Trip to DISNEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, you were so lucky! That was a BARGAIN!!! I love bargains.

Thank for the kind welcome!! :)

That's funny about your cat! I used to have three of them. Dh is definitely not a cat person, but he knew we all came as a package. He had to take them to get me.

I have grand plans to share...I've looked enough over the past few weeks, I promise as soon as I actually finish something I'll post it. I think I'll start with the quilts first, as I'm least intimidated by them. I actually got the idea from another poster here, so sorry I can't remember who from....she said she made them because of all the cooties on the airplane blankets and I though "Ew, good point!" So, add one more project to the growing list of stuff I have yet to start! I did think those pillowcases another poster made were TOO CUTE!! I think my head will pop off if I try to make one more thing....

Welcome Maggi...this place is great (but addicting as you can see!) :rotfl:
Yeah. I see that!......:rotfl: It's kind of like a soap opera in a way....

Welcome, welcome, Maggi! Be careful...when I started to read this board I bought 2 new sewing machines and so much fabric I could start a store!

Susan

Thank you all for being so sweet!!! Off to my work!

Well, at least it doesnt sound like I missed anything then - I was so bummed though!!!!! There is some cute lady and tramp flannel on "you know where" right now if anyone needs it!!!

I love working at duPont - I work in the outpatient therapy department and my "kids" are the best!!!!! Your poor little guy with all those tests - sweet thing - I live in Essington, PA wich is in Delaware county also, near the philly airport, about 10 minutes from springfield!!!

Hey everyone -

Thanks for all the terrific comments on Nana's newest Halloween creations for the girls. She is doing better, and much to my dismay, back to sewing again (even though she should probably still be resting that arm). Her orthopedic doctor said that my (and my sister's) suggestion to boost her calcium while she's healing has definitely helped and her arm is healing nicely and she won't need surgery.

And, like I said, she just sent me an email tonight of a turkey appliqued t-shirt that she made for the girls for Thanksgiving. So, she's at it again!!!

Oh, here's what she sent to me today, so the girls now have something for "turkey day".

Hi Maggi,
Welcome! My sister is in your area-she is transplanted from Michigan as well! She is in Midlothian (she doesn't sew and refuses to go to Hobby Lobby for me :headache:)
What part of Michigan are you from?

Cindee

GET OUT! Your sister lives in Midlothian? I've never expected to "meet" someone that live in Midlothian. Ou church retreat center is there, and it's such a small town, that it's almost shocking to hear that someone lives there! It's a great area though!

Yep, my sister lives there. Her husband does something for Dallas schools. 2 of Morgans BIGGEST fans! We will have to meet in person the next time my sister drags me to her house. I have a cousin that lives north of Dallas, but I am clueless as to where.

Are you far from Midlothian?

Cindee

Here are the Minnie twirl skirts and tops. I posted the skirts before. Now that I finished the tops, I KNEW you'd want to see the finished product!

I'm about 2 1/2 hours east of there. But I'm there a lot for different church stuff.

And here's my latest creation. Empire waist dresses.

The ruffles at the bottom of the dresses took way too long. I need a ruffler foot! Other than that, they were very simple.

Great job! I don't think you should add anything to the capris, you'll get more wear out of them plain anyway.

Since we were stuck at home for 2 days with pink eye, this is how I spent my time:

th_100_1947.jpg

I had a little helper picking up stray threads and playing with the spools and ribbon:

Cute outfit! Love the colors. I have a victim of pink eye here today. Lovely. Just waiting for the other two to catch it next.

Jord was at her college interview, checking out schools :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

(teresajoy you are ROTTEN LOL)

:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: Well, I hope she gets into a good one!

Two more years, you are one strong brave woman! I think it gets cold here in Michigan, but we've got NOTHING on you! I think I would never leave the house if I lived there !

I must be the slowest at completing projects

Nope, that title belongs to me, you can't have it!

I like the way the outfit looks, nice job.

Adorable!!! These turned out so cute! I just love seeing pictures of your kids, they are just adorable!

Hi everyone, I know I have been quiet lately. I have been here. I think that post total shocked me into silence. :lmao:
I love all the Halloween costumes. Ds was a skunk (I think I saw another one on here earlier) I didn't make it though. I am sure this is the last year I get to pick out the costume so I wanted something furry and cute and since he is a little stinker, there you have it.

Tom, I saw that white dress and it is lovely, just georgous. That is a lot of white :scared1: of course I only have a boy so I can't have anything on him lighter than brown. Ha ha

alikat99, LOVE the mickey pumpkin heads. Reminds me of my trip. :goodvibes

Disney 4 Me, the dresses turned out cute! The princess fabric on the left is one that fascinates me. I stare at it forever. There is no 'background' only princesses. It is amazing. I am easily amused (and amazed), obviously. ;)
I love the sleeves on those. The minnie ones are cute too, the bow is a nice touch.

I do the mit thing too!!!! My Dad and family (well everyone except my sister and I) live in a similar 1 stop light town. I DO NOT miss snow. I like Florida sunshine :)

Yeah, luckily dh doesn't like it either so I don't have a lot of fear that we'll ever have to move somewhere cold. I always joke with him that when he kicks the bucket (he's ten years older than me, totally A-type and is a HORRIBLE DRIVER! Even HE jokes about his demise-isn't that horrible of us?) that I'm moving to Florida, and getting a job as the Fairy Godmother at WDW. (I'm only forty)

:welcome: Maggi!!!!!

When I read your first post about you being a fellow Michigander, I was going to tell you to take a picture of your hand and show us where you live! I think we all do that! Now, from where you lived, go straight down your hand, almost to the bottom, then over about half an inch towards your pinkie. There, now you are in my town!

I'm such a geek I had to go get my atlas to see where you might be...we never went too far south when I was a kid...we were more of Mackinac Island/Great Lakes sort of people. I'm not too familiar with southern Mi. Lansing's about as far south as we went. Unless, of course, we were taking our annual trip to CEDAR POINT!!! No, we don't need to revisit THAT discussion again! :rotfl2:

Thanks everyone for the welcome's. I do feel welcome!!!
Maggi
