I never move up on this thread. I have to remember. Just keep posting, just keep posting. Just keep posting, posting, posting.

Hi everyone... I just wanted you all to know that Ireland's had an accident. She needs a little pixie dust sent her way. She will need my care for a while, so I'm not sure when I will be back online. We just arrived home from the hospital, and I have to tell you....it was absolutely heartbreaking. Hearing that your child has been in an accident is just about the worst thing... I'm tearing up now, just thinking about how terrified I was..I won't go into detail, but to make a story short, while my Mom was watching her, and I was at school, she took out her bike, and had a terrible fall. She wasn't wearing a helmet. We live at the top of a hill, on a few acres, so thankfully she fell in the driveway and not in the street, but she lost consciousness and didn't know where she was or who she was. My mother had to carry her into the house. She wound up with a broken thumb, split lip, huge road rash area on her cheek and chin, which is really swollen, huge lump on her head, a concussion, and fluid in her elbow, that is supposed to go away. So my little darling will be out of commission for a while. Take care all and say a little prayer for her, and I think Santa will be buying her elbow pads, knee pads and a helmet..and maybe put the training wheels back on...:sad2:

OMG -a mother's worst nightmare!! My thoughts and prayers are with Ireland (and you too mom!!). May she heal quickly and feel better soon!!!

I attempted the stripwork jumper pattern from YCMT..but I am having such a hard time with the ruffles/gathers...they just never turn out the way I think they should....and I also have such a hard time aligning the seams...I have taken it apart so many times that the fabric are fraying on the raw edges, so I have decided to leave it as it and hopefully, no one will notice. I took pictures, but DH is on my computer..so I will upload it later..but I am wondering what is the best way to do the gathers...and to align the seams. Thanks!

Edited to add: Anyone has recommendation for a really good sewing book for a beginner sewer like me?

I use the baste and gather measure too. I match all the seams first and pin. Then I fold in half to find the halfway mark in the ruffle and the thing I am adding it to and pin them together there. I do that as many times as I need to so I have a manageable area to work with. Then I gather and pin and it always seems to work out right. Well, unless I run out of bobbin thread and don't notice and I have to start over again!

Many people have recommended Simplicity's Simply the Best Sewing Book and I bought it and read it cover to cover! It really is good!

Maggie: You said your girls are fish??? Keep them away from Stephres at ALL costs!!!

Hey! :snooty:

Just curious how many of you are going to be at The World in May? Teresa and I (and our big 'ol family) will be there from May 3-May 17. We're staying off-site and I'm not sure which days we'll actually be at the parks yet.

We will be there the 24th through the 26th, shoot. Teresa mentioned you might swing by Tampa, is that a possibility?

Iam going to make the peasant top from ycmt and was wondering if any one had made this and if so do you have any advice before I get started? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Well, I am off to bed, tomorrow my sweet baby will be ONE YEAR OLD! I'm sad that my babies are growing up!:sad1:
GOOD NIGHT ALL!

Aww, happy birthday baby! :cake:

So do you attach the two pieces together and then baste and gather (i.e. the skirt to the top and baste both pieces?)

So sorry to hear this! We are praying for all of you and for a speedy recovery!

I'm with eeyore, the shirt length was too short for my girls (and I even added an extra inch to the ruffle) and so were the sleeves. The width around the shirt was fine though, no need to add it any bigger there. My girls are tall for their ages and I went up two sizes in my little one and one size in my oldest and they were still too short. Otherwise the pattern is pretty straight forward.

Oh, read the directions first about cutting out the pattern. I tried to cut before I taped and that is way WRONG! TAPE, then cut. For some reason I didn't believe the instructions I guess and I had to print the pattern pieces three times!:scratchin Don't ask why I do things like this, I can't explain it! Also, after you attach the sleeves to the shirt it looks all wrong in my opinion and I couldn't figure out how it was going to work, but the top part of the sleeves actually becomes part of the neckline so the open top part of the sleeves is actually right. This probably doesn't make sense but you'll see after you get started and if you're more advanced than me (and most people are!) you probably won't have these problems! Good luck and let us see your finished project!

Thank you! My oldest daughter is very tall, I probably would have been wondering what I did wrong as to why the shirt was so short! Thanks again for all of you guys help!

Aww, happy birthday baby! :cake:

Thank you! ONE YEAR OLD TODAY! Guess I need to change my siggy!

I think I should look into getting a gathering foot...sounds like it will make my life easier! Is a gathering foot the same as a ruffler foot?

GEEZ I still haven't talked enough to make the top 100. Can you change it to the top............wherever I am???? LOL. I guess I have to talk more. :cool1:

I promise you if I find yours I will personally drive it home to you. I could use a little visit to the Eastern Shore, at least it's cold enough outside now that the Bay Bridge traffic shouldn't be so bad. :lmao:

Yep it's crisp and cool here! Bright sun, puffy white clouds, and 50 degrees. It used to be my favorite time of year, but since I've lost my mind,,,,I don't remember!!

I think I should look into getting a gathering foot...sounds like it will make my life easier! Is a gathering foot the same as a ruffler foot?

A gathering foot is NOT the same thing as a ruffler foot. I believe the one that most of us use is the RUFFLER foot. I end up calling my a gathering foot most of the time, because that's what I use it for. HOWEVER, when you go to purchase, you need to ask for a gathering foot. I couldn't sew without mine! It's absolutley one of the best investments into this hobby that I've made!

Thoughts, Prayers& lots of Pixie Dust for Ireland!!! I'm just shocked at everything that happened to her -- poor little girl! Give her lots of love & hugs from her friends here!!!

Maggie: You said your girls are fish??? Keep them away from Stephres at ALL costs!!!

Wow! I love this outfit! I saw that fabric today and I wasn't sure if I liked it. After seeing this, I may have to go pick some up!

Sorry Steph, but that is just :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

If you find some of that Mickey snowball fabric, let me know! I'd love some and my WM doesn't have it!

We had an issue at Animal Kingdom with Pocohantas(sp?) My DD, 4 at the time was SOOO excited to see her. She was actually hiding off to the side behind some long branches with a CM like she didn't want anyone to find her. My DD gets her autograph book out(a nice Creative Memories one) and in the excitement she just hands her the book. Pocohantas just scribbled her name and never looked to see if she had the book upside down(even Mickey and friends can look and see this...) Then she took a picture with her and off course we get the pictures back(pre-digital) and she has a snide, snooty look on her face! Luckily you don't run across this very often, it definitely takes away some of the magic!!!!

Is there somewhere to report these magic killers? It just makes my blood boil reading these experiences. I would have someone's head if they did things like this to my child! Or at least their job!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Iam going to make the peasant top from ycmt and was wondering if any one had made this and if so do you have any advice before I get started? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Well, I am off to bed, tomorrow my sweet baby will be ONE YEAR OLD! I'm sad that my babies are growing up!

Another vote to be careful with sleeve length!! The short sleeves are usually ok around here, but the long sleeves are definitely too short. ALSO, the neckline is tricky. I've found the best way to do it is by shirring instead of making a casing for elastic. I've also used the binding method and it works ok, but I still prefer shirring. If you've not tried that yet, it is SUPER easy to do and much easier and faster than elastic.

:bday: Baby!!!!!!!

I say this every time, but I didn't realized I talk so much!

Me too, I'm #2 and I thought I'd had slacked off some. I even multi-quote! What the French, toast?

ok, here two more I finished today. the lighting was horrible tonight! Really bad, but now she is super grumpy and in a bath thank goodness!

How adorable!! I love the one with the white and winter Mickey fabric. That was the only fabric I didn't pick up my last trip to JoAnn, because I had no idea what I would do with it! Now, I must pick some up on my stock-up trip!:cool1: :cool1:

I gather mine before I attach (rather than gathering and stitching at the same time). I have my ruffler foot set for 1 stitch and pleat depth of 3. I use a stitch length of 5. For me, this yields an almost perfect 2:1 ratio. If I want a 3:1 ratio, I change my stitch length to 3.5.

Thank you, I am going to try this on my next skirt. I have just been fighting with that dang ruffler foot. Hopefully I win the next fight!!! I think my problem is the stitch length! Thanks again.

So do you attach the two pieces together and then baste and gather (i.e. the skirt to the top and baste both pieces?)

What I do is take the ruffle and go around twice with a basting stitch. Then I do the pinning method I explained before and then I gather in between the pins. I sew the two pieces together trying to remove each pin as I go so I don't run over it and risk losing an eye. Then I take my seam ripper and take out all the basting stitches. Someone mentioned once to do them in a contrasting color so they are easier to see and I do that. And that's why it takes me 2 days to do a ruffle, LOL!

Sorry Steph, but that is just :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

:snooty:

Castlecreations,

:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: To you and Ireland. Poor thing! Hope she heals quickly.

Princess Ireland princess:

Which do you think looks better on a Minnie shirt...

1) an appliqued bow in coordinating print like this...

OR
2) a real bow made with ribbon

I finally made a patchwork Minnie skirt for dd7, now I just need to do the shirt and I can't decide which one to do and wondered what the majority would do.

MANY ((((HUGS)))), thoughts, and pixie dust.

      :wizard:

I hope she starts feeling better soon. Ouch! Last year on vacation, my DS5 ran full tilt straight into a doorjam and got a pretty serious concussion (almost fractured his skull). It's really scary. Many hugs. Take care of yourself and Ireland.
