WOW!!! Lori, those customs are fabulous!:goodvibes I have to run out the door again to pick up the lil one from school so I can't read your TR. Looking forward to reading it over coffee later!:surfweb: Your kids are soooo cute & I bet they got lots of compliments! Not as many folks seem to do customs at DL.:confused3

One quick side note...all you MINNIE DOT fabric stashers, is it actually called "Minnie Dot" on the bolt? I've been trying to find it & saw some stuff in the Valentine's section at Hancocks today. It was a blend that would pass off as Minnie Dot, but I don't think it's authentic? :sad2: Let me know who the manufacturer is & what the pattern is called y'all. Did we decide who the president of the Minnie Dot fan club is around here yet? :rotfl:

Glad somebody else is double posting!

The Minnie Dot that I originally bought was from Hancock's and on their website was called that, Minnie Dot. I never had any luck finding it in the store. The women who worked their said that as soon as a bolt came in someone usually bought the whole thing and that they didn't get shipments very often. I don't remember anymore who the manufacturer was. I have heard that they don't carry it anymore? Does anyone know about this?

I also bought a "fake" Minnie Dot from Wal-Mart this fall that I used for Halloween Minnie costumes. The red was a little different and the dots were bigger. I think the Hancock dots are about 1 1/2 inches and the Wal-Mart version they are around 2 inches. It still works and looks great! Good luck finding some!

I just bought some minni dot fabric. Well, it wasn't called minnie dot but it was red with white dots and will work. They have it a hobby lobby with all the other polka dot fabrics. I actually decided not to buy any. Then I was looking at the pile of fabrics that were on sale b/c they had already been cut and found a piece! Super price so I bought it!

Are you going to sew around the edges? If so, you don't want to use anything but Heat N Bond Lite, anything else will gum up your machine. You may need to just leave the iron on for a few extra seconds around the edges?

OH thanks!!! I was considering something stronger but won't!!! I'm going to iron a bit more then do the sewing!

I will admit I have like 20 yards of Minnie Dot. (Walmart) I bought a whole bolt once and then a couple yards here and there. I have it all nice and wrapped up for someday.

Here is the crazy part . . . We are going in March. I have 1000 customs planned. . . not one with Minnie Dot! LOL

OK, what do you guys think? I'm making ds some overalls for our trip. We leave end of Jan. I'm worried if I cut them off and make them shorts it's going to get cold. Of course, I check the FL weather a few days ago and it was 80!!!

Also, do I need stronger heat and bond to make the overalls? I'm having trouble with the fabric not wanting to stick well to the overalls. What am I doing wrong?? 2 pieces of fabric stick together just fine but with the overalls the edges keep coming up.

I definately say overalls! We have been when it was warm and when it was cold, but if it is cold you are sunk! If it is warmer you can use a short sleeve shirt and roll up the bottoms a bit. Alot of times it is still cold in the morning and evening so you would want pants on. The one thing I have learned is to use short sleeve shirts if I am appliquing it and put a long one under it so it can be worn either season.

Did you wash the overalls first? They may have starch on them from the store. Otherwise it just might be your iron isn't hot enough. Prewash all fabrics or overalls before applique. I use Heat N Bond Lite on my overalls. Then stitch around the edges.

Yep, washed. Actually more than once! The first part (the big mickey on the bib) refused to stick at all. I am wondering if I ironed too much. I actually redid the heat and bond and put more on the back. The second time around it was fine. I forgot that I am going to hand stitch. I'm CASE'ing a custom I bought off ebay and that is what she did. No clue what I'm doing but I'm going to give it a shot!

Well maybe not 1000! Two for each day. My girls are really funny about being clean. It is a good thing though. We are going for nine days. So that is 18 x 2outfits. Add a couple of gowns for special dinners too. I expect to bring about 40 outfits for my girls. My older DD likes to coordinate with her younger sister so I keep that in mind. It also makes for good pictures.

During our last trip they wore everything. DD even picked out 15 pairs of shoes for both of them and they wore them all. My DH does not care just as long as we use what we bring. He is also really big on not buying clothes on vacation. We had to do that once and he was not happy! I also feel I am on vaca and I am not doing laundry. The washer and I have a date when we get home.

I am really picky about what the girls wear now. I never buy stuff just because it is on sale. I try to buy whole outfits/looks. My older DD hardly ever wears pants. She is a dress girl. I feel that I am smart about shopping. I wait at Gymbo until it goes on sale. Above all my girls take really good care of their clothes. I dress DD really nice for school and I know her teachers are more careful about keeping her clean. It works out just fine!

This is all a surprise birthday trip so I am happy to sew away. I am thrilled because my DH just gave a December trip the green light and I get to bring my Mom. We are going to have so much fun.

why did that double post! SO SOrry!
