I thought I would ask this question here, because I trust everyone's advice so much.
DW asked me what I would like for Christmas. Can you believe I told her an embroidery machine! Yikes! If the guys at work knew that, I would never hear the end of it!
Anyway, I think is was Nana that did the Machine embroidered turkey applique, and I just like how smooth and perfect it looked, (yes my perfectionism is showing through!)
I know that I have seen on YCMT the files that you can buy to make these appliques, but what machine would you recommend?
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

When my mother bought her embroidery machine she went to her local quilting shop and they let her "test drive" some models and gave her a lot of advice. She also took a class there with her new machine. She is always telling me I need to take a class, but I am stubborn and like to figure things out on my own (with help here, of course!). Anyway, we are driving up there later today so if I can sneak away on the computer I'll let you know which brand she has.

Hey everybody, guess what! Since we had to cancel our trip in January my husband booked us for Dec 21-22! So we'll get to see everything decorated for Christmas! The only problem is that our Florida resident passes are blacked out starting the 22nd. I'm not sure what we are going to do. But now I have to make a Disney custom for Christmas, so I'll have to go back and study the great ones here and decide what to do!

Hello Ladies and Tom! Been away for a few days (well, just lurking here and there.) I'll have to play catch-up tonight.

Here is what I've been up to - I'll narrate as I post pics. . . Go ahead and get something to drink - this may be a wee bit long. .

First up is the Mickey head Christmas Vacation countdown. We had this little grouping of trees that didn't have any ornaments on it and I was racking my brain trying to think of something to do with those trees. So it hit me! We needed a vacation countdown. Went to the Home Depot to get those adorable little mickey head paint chips, one for every day until we leave. I cut the mickey heads out, punched a hole (sorry Mickey!) and strung the ribbon. So, every day we hang a Mickey on the trees and when the bag is empty, it's time to go to Disney!

Next is the crayon roll-ups. These were posted a long time ago and have been on my to-do list since then. They are just too cute! And they come together very quickly, which is always a bonus. I normally wouldn't have put rick rack on the one for DS, but he said he wanted it "because it looks like dinosaur spikes." Who can argue with that?

th_crayonrolls1.jpg

th_crayonrolls2.jpg

Ok, next are the I spy bags. Now after all the posts about these recently, I just HAD to make some. So, can y'all stop posting all these ridiculously cute things that I MUST make? :rotfl: Now, I must also tell you the best thing about these bags - I was remembering all these small toys I used to have as a kid that would have been perfect for these, and then I remembered that my mom used to have this huge jug of all these "junky" toys of mine - all the little toys and pieces of playsets that I had. So I called her up to see if maybe she still had it around. Sure enough - she did! So we went over and brought it home and dumped it out on the living room floor and the kids had an absolute blast going through all of my old toys! There was a TON of stuff perfect for I spy bags! I also went through my scrapbooking stash and found some fun stuff for them! These were WAY fun to make!

Still with me?
Here's an experimental shirt I made for DD with some thermal and some rib knit fabric. I had never worked with knits before, and I was dying to try one of those spiral hoodies I've seen on ebay. I searched and searched for the pattern for those hoodies (it's Farbenmix Jule but I could only find it in stock in a couple of stores - european, of course, and I'm too impatient to try and order from out of the country.) So, I played around with a couple of different patterns - Burda 9627 for the shirt and Burda 9676 for the hood, although it is just a plain hood - I added my own spiralie thingie. Anyhoo, I was thinking about doing something along these lines for that black and white Tinkerbell fabric. Thoughts?

th_snowmenback.jpg

Just one more to go!
I bought some Aristocat Marie fabric from you know where a long time ago and finally used it. DD's middle name is Marie, so a Marie outfit was a must, but fabric is sooooo hard to find! I was also making a twirl top to go with this as well, kind of like aimeeg's cinderella, only with Marie's face on the bodice. It looks good on paper and I've got the pieces cut out and mostly fused, but I just can't bring myself to actually applique it right now. I've got a few more things to sew for the trip, so if I get those finished and still have time, I may go ahead, but it's on the back burner for now.

th_marie2.jpg

Ok, I think that's it for now! Thanks if you stayed with me till the end of this monster post! Now I've got some catching up to do. . .

LOVE all of it! That Marie outfit is spectacular! Great applique work!

Now I need to make a crayon roll for our church busy-bag. I want the crayons to not slip out too easily. Yours are so cute! My boys might also like dinosaur humps.

OOPs, I was talking to Heather T was Feldman girl Sue!
Oh T, you know you were a Feldman girl. The long hair, the bandana, the bad boy attitude, come on!!!

OK- it's a hijack of the original intent of the thread, but since everyone else is doing it, I'm gonna too!!! LOL

Just for you sahm1000- a pic I took from a recent concert I attended:

Yep, this confirms it. He looks just like my friend, Hazen Bockstanz (female), from 8th grade!

From Footloose on I couldn't quite accept Sarah Jessica Parker as a blonde. :confused3 Then when I watch her on Sex in the City I get flashbacks to her geek role on Square Pegs & can't grasp the cool girl she's trying to portray!!:upsidedow
I am so with you on that! I can't see her as anything other than the geeky girl on Square Pegs. BTW, I thought everyone remembered Square Pegs! I am even humming the song, even though I can't remember any words besides "Square Pegs".

So cool that you used some of your old "junk toys" for your kid's bags!! I really like that spiraly hoodie you made. You did a great job with the knit fabric. I'd like to try working with it one of these days, too. My favorite is the Marie outfit. It is absolutely FANTASTIC!!! Teresa will be begging you for any leftover fabric as Lydis LOVES Marie!!!

The Aristocats was one of my favorite movies growing up: can you make one for me?
Almost Paradise was the theme for our 8th grade dance. :)
Aristocats was one of my favorites as a kid, too. I also loved The Fox and The Hound. I had both records and listened to them constantly. Yes, I said records.
My 8th grade dance was cancelled in favor of a class trip to Cedar Point. I was actually pretty dissapointed because I already had the dress (you may recall the discussion about the peach colored bubble skirted dress with the balero jacket, *sigh*)

P.S. I own all these is that bad??
I own every movie mentioned so far, except for Flashdance. But, my absolute favorite 80's movie has got to be The Breakfast Club!!! I can quote every line (which is why Henry refuses to watch it with me)!

And now.................. for your viewing pleasure (and mine) ............. I would like to introduce my teenage crushes.... :cool1: :cool1:
th_237675.jpg
th_chadeverett2a.jpg
Anyone who says they don't know who Donny Osmond is has to be lying or leading a very sheltered life!! :lmao: He was before my time as well, but I know who he is!! I actually think he's aged really well.

I also had a crush on Chad Everett. However, my Chad Everett was a super-cute little blonde haired blue eyed boy that lived down the road from me as a kid. I used to go to his house and we'd shuck corn and feed the chickens...good times...

I'm a little nervous now, waiting for the other shoe to drop since bad things always happen in 3s.
1. Fractured my foot slipping down the stairs 3 weeks before leaving for WDW.
2. A man rear ended my Mini van yesterday doing $4000 worth of damage and it will take a week to repair (all at his insurance cost of course.)
3. ? ? ?:scared1:
Okay, quick, post something really embarassing and that can be your #3!!!
I'm so sorry to hear about your van, on top of the fractured foot!!! UGH!!

Ok, I got a little bit of sewing done while singing songs in my head and looking at heartthrobs. Oh, Heather I forgot to say I used the ruffler foot on the bottom ruffle on the top! I hate it, mostly because I didn't know what I was doing. I have to play with it more I guess, I forgot to turn the tension way up like it said in the YCMT pdf. I chickened out for the ruffles on the pants and just gathered them by hand. Here is the completed outfit:

th_100_1979.jpg

Ok, now I have to just get my house picked up and the kids and I packed. We are leaving for my parents tomorrow and it's quite a mess! Does anyone else have to furiously clean the house before they leave?
I didn't mess with the tension when doing my ruffles. My ruffler also ruffles a lot tighter than the one in the PDF instructions. It's nearly impossible to get 2x ruffles with it set on 1 ruffle for every stitch. You'll just have to mess with it on some scrap fabric.

I don't furiously clean before I leave, but I'm having 12 people over here for Thanksgiving tomorrow. I haven't even started cleaning and I'm going to spend the afternoon at McDonalds. This is the life!

OH, wait I remember it was Luke Perry...SO NOT Brad Pitt.. What was I thinking?:confused3

Luke Perry...Brad Pitt... NOT EVEN CLOSE!!! :scared1:

Just had to jump in here--Spongie and Utahmama were at my house!

But anyhoo, I love Donny. And apparently he is a very nice guy in real life. My BIL was building a house for him and whenever Donny was around he was soooo nice to the guys working there. He even helped haul some heavy stuff around. I had the Donny and Marie barbies when I was little. They came with a poster of each of them (wearing purple). As a joke my friend and I hung the Donny poster in our locker in High School and the 2 guys next to us begged for Marie, so they hung her in their locker. Good times....good times.

I met him IRL when I lived in California and worked at a toy store when I was 16. At first, I thought he looked too SHORT to be Donny! DOH! Luckily, for once in my life, I didn't say that out loud. :cool2: I did get his autograph and remeber him being very nice.

OK, does anyone know WHO got sent packing on Dancing With the Stars last night? PLEASE say it wasn't Marie!!!!! I am so proud of her getting slim and fit...course, that doens't motivate me to do likewise. I am strictly a lady of leisure.

OK, Me and Spongie went to Jham's (not pronounced "jam" but I want it to be) and her home is beyond beautiful! She has the most amazing sewing/scrapbooking room!!!! Her littlest dd is unbelievabley adorable :cutie: and her oldest dd played so cute with our girls. Her boys are "all-boy" and plyed with a big rope and numb-chucks ...super fun! Her littlest ds, warmed his hands on the quilt squares I was ironing  . Jammy is just the sweetest, most wonderful mama! We talked about all of yous...in a gossipy manner :rolleyes1 (jk!) She gave us plenty of diet cherry pepsi and gave the girls Mickey Mouse bracelets!!! Oh, Norah LOVES hers...she's an odd duck. I doubt if I'll ever get it off her

Thanks Jham for the great time! We both love you! Misty'll post a picture soon. The bloopers should "prolly" be deleted? :cool2:

I'm a little bit country, I'm a little bit rock and roll...

Loved that show! I remember looking forward all week until it was on!

Oh, Donnie Osmond!!!! Woo Hoo!!! Did any of you have the Donnie and Marie dolls and the stage????????? Marie is still on Dancing with the Stars!!!

Both women of GREAT taste!

Oh, so I wasn't born yet... that's why!

Oh, so I wasn't born yet... that's why!

Both women who like to BRAG!!!! :rotfl2:

WHAT IN THE HERMIT CRAB IS GOING ON AROUND HERE? I have been so busy packing and sewing last minute things because we leave for disney in 3DAYS!!!!!!!! Well like 3 1/2 days but soon!!!!!! I had a few minutes and thought I would see what everyone has been up to and the only thing you guys have been making is each other DROOL!:rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl: I have seen some cute things but have no time to comment, SORRY! I'm sure I'll have a million pages to catch up on when I get back, but I can't wait to leave! I'm so excited! Well, now that I'm finished bragging, I'll get back to reading! :rotfl: DON'T HAVE TOO MUCH FUN WHILE I'M GONE!:rotfl: AND BEHAVE YOURSELVES!:rotfl:

Have a fun and safe trip! Make sure to fill us in when you get back!!

I have been skimming over all these guys photos, but I must admit I had crushes on ALL of the Charlie's Angels, Marie Osmond, Dolly Parton (I can't even believe that I owned up to that one!), and Kristie McNichol.
Oh, and I remember Square Pegs! It was like totally awesome! He, he!

Obviously a man of GREATtaste, not only in clothing design, but also beautiful women!

And now..... for your viewing pleasure....

UMama, Jennie Garth was eliminated.

They all did such a great job. I have always wondered how close the scores actually are.

Just had to jump in here--Spongie and Utahmama were at my house!

Sounds like you, Umama and Spongie had great fun last night!! I wish I lived in Utah! I'll be there at Christmas..... any chance of another quick meet??

Wow, Donny hauling heavy stuff around...... You didn't go over there to help out too?

Your mention of the locker poster got me thinking, and I don't want to brag or anything, but my friend Becky and I had the best decorated locker in our school. We always shared a locker, and would stay after school the first week just to get it decorated just so. My favorite was the year we bought gold wrapping paper, it was the really pretty shiny kind. And hung our Outsiders guys pictures on it. (You know, "Stay gold Ponyboy, stay gold." I believe there were some sunset pictures in there as well. I know Becky took pictures of it, but I don't think I ever saw them. We also had the bowflex guy picture in there too. The one where he is taking his shirt off over his head to reveal how well that bowflex works on your abs.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :thumbsup2 Yes, please, we need PICTURES!!!

You decorated school lockers??? What a great idea! Wish I'd thought of that back in the day! Where we lived, it was strictly bedroom walls!

As an aside.... can you even imagine Middle school or high school kids doing this these days??

Yep, this confirms it. He looks just like my friend, Hazen Bockstanz (female), from 8th grade!

I also had a crush on Chad Everett. However, my Chad Everett was a super-cute little blonde haired blue eyed boy that lived down the road from me as a kid. I used to go to his house and we'd shuck corn and feed the chickens...good times...

Hmmmmmmm... sounds like you had some interesting friends!

And what is this about laughing at my Barry pic??? Haven't you heard?? Thou shalt not laugh at Barry!!

I met him IRL when I lived in California and worked at a toy store when I was 16. At first, I thought he looked too SHORT to be Donny! DOH! Luckily, for once in my life, I didn't say that out loud. :cool2: I did get his autograph and remeber him being very nice.
I saw Donny at the SLC airport not too long ago and I thought the same thing, that he looked short. At first I didn't really know who he was- he looked really familiar, but couldn't quite place him, but after a few minutes of ever-so-discretely glancing back and forth at him, I realized who he was! Of course, I was cool about it.... I kept the drool in my mouth! :rotfl2: He never even knew I knew who he was. Had that happened back in the 70's, I can't say the results woulda been the same.... poor guy woulda been attacked!

Sounds like you, Umama and Spongie had great fun last night!! I wish I lived in Utah! I'll be there at Christmas..... any chance of another quick meet??

Hello? If you stepped foot in this state and DIDn't meet us, we'd go all crazy on you! All up in your grill (whatever that means?) PM me, Spongemommie05, and Jham....with the details so we can MEET!!!! Wait, I think there's another regular poster on here that is Utah'n...the more the merrier!

There needs to be treats involved though...it is Christmas! :santa:

Yeah on the job!!!!! And, very cool story!!!!!

Ok, House hasn't come on yet, and you think your daughter is up late????? Oh, I can only wish. Lydia is a nightowl! She stay up REALLY REALLY late. She's still going strong right now. Although, I think she looks a little sleepy. I even woke her up early this morning!

Well House was taped at 9 - so it was almost 10 - BUT technically it just felt really late, very hyper last night!!! I so hope he gets rid of "Cut Throat Witch" I don't like her at all, was surprised he fired who he did.

Here are pictures of DD's Thanksgiving outfit for tomorrow - was going to add a long sleeve top underneath, but it looks like it'll be about 80 for tomorrow so I won't need to.

After looking at this plus what I have posted in the past I need to branch out and work on another style - thought im getting the hang of the jumpers now!

Where are Spongie and Utahmama when you need them? These people need to be educated about the Osmonds!

I feel so bad that you all have not experienced "puppy love" via these guys! They were the heartthrobs of my day.....

I can see you maybe not knowing Dr. Gannon (Chad Everett), but... DONNY OSMOND?? You don't know him? He and his family have been all over the tv the past month!

Oooooohhhhhhhhh..... I GET IT!!! You're hinting that you want a more current pic of him! Well............. here ya go!! ;)

689donnyosmond_l1.jpg

Not too bad for a guy that's gonna be 50 next month- huh?

He is handsome! I do remember the Osmond Show and I loved Donnie and Marie! I just don't remember Chad Everett. I was born in 1972. I was too young to cover my walls with photos of Donnie, but I did like their singing.

Can someone post or pm the eye spy bag instructions I tried to get them from the link but it won't load the page so I can't read them!!!

These take practice! I sew a basting stitch around the bottom of the T so it doesn't stretch. Then I sew a gathering stitch on the fabric and pin in place. The gathering stitch helps keep the fabric from shifting a little, but lots of pins is the only other thing I can suggest! This looks very cute, BTW, my dd2 loves Charlie Brown and I have no idea why!!! She watched the Tgiving one last night on TV and watches the Great Pumpkin as often as I will let her!!!

I've only made 2 of the tee-shirt dresses(tops actually) I didn't even cut the shirt first. We need all the warmth we can get here in Michigan, so I figured "why bother?" They've turned out great. My second one was alittle croocked, but I added a ribbon tri and you can't tell.

I know I haven't been around in a while, but I wanted to share what I made this morning for my twins - Pink Floyd t-shirts. :lmao:
I think they're pretty cute. :cutie: :cutie: These are the things I come up with to do so I can avoid doing all the things I need to be doing. :rotfl:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE (get the picture) this commercial... it and the car commercial where the Animals are singing...here's a link... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBwBTlt64jY

Oh and I have a short (HAHAHA) story to share...

Today I was in JoAnn's to get some more of that holiday dog fabric to redo some pants that I thought I had made upside down (if I had read the instructions a 50th time I would have realized that they weren't) and the lady in front of me had a picture printed from Disney's website and a Disney name tag on. So being the shy person I am I asked her what she was making. She was getting fabric to wrap boxes in for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. Apparently they were for Cinderella's step sisters and step mother's greeting area right outside Ariel's Grotto. Kinda neat to see the conceptual art type thing for it! The fabric's she picked were GREAT!!!

1. I can't watch youtube at work, but if that's the commercial where the wolf eats the bird or chipmunk then spits it out and keeps on singing, then I have a ha ha story for it too!
My roommate (she's really my partner, but whatever) had surgery recently and that commercial came on when she was in her drugged stupor.
She looked at it.
Looked at me.
Looked at the commercial again.
Looked at me again.

It took everything I had to keep a straight face - I just KNEW she was thinking "Is this really happening or is this the drugs?!?!?!"
She said later she was thinking maybe we should buy that car so it would happen to us. :rotfl2:

2. There's always a DIS connection! One of my online friends on here has a sister who plays Anastasia and will probably be there for the Christmas party since she was for the halloween party!!!

Hmm. I'll see if I can steal a pic.

Hi Everyone,
Here are a few pics of my creations - still a newbie and trying hard, but having fun and fortunately, kids are so enthralled by the cool fabric they dont notice the imperfections!!!
Everything looks great! ESPECIALLY for a newbie! I love the charlie brown fabric.

Thanks!

The disney embroidery machine gives me fits, but I'm no where near as talented as you.

I finally got all caught back up and just had to say that I love all the new creations on here. Oh and I also had quite a few laughs reading through all the crushes you guys have had!!! However, I think you all missed the most IMPORTANT and CUTEST CRUSHES OF THEM ALL. Here are MINE:

1. Mickey Mouse
2. Donald Duck
3. Goofy
4. Pluto
5. Chip & Dale

P.S. Ohh I almost forgot, if any of you need pictures, just let me know. :rotfl2: :lmao:
:rotfl2: I have a crush on either chip or dale - whichever one has the smaller nose (don't tell them I still can't tell them apart!).
I LOVE seeing them in the parks because they are always a blast.
them and pluto.

I stuffed my I spy bags with beads. I used 2 sizes - the teeny tiny ones and the next size up.

What do you do with the bags? Do you play I spy really or do you just move stuff around in them?

Many thanks to Theresajoy and everyone for all their help and encouragement, I finished this just this morning. Dd5 (in all her drama glory) said she loves it and is wearing it now. I'm sure she'll get it dirty before we leave, but it's okay. The sleeves are a little short and I wish the bodice was a little longer too....But it's a start!!! I'll make her another one before we leave and deco her capris to match. Now I just have to figure out how to make it bigger for dd9!!!

Thanks again guys!!! You really did help me out! If I don't have a chance to post again, have a great Thanksgiving all!!!!
Maggi

But, my absolute favorite 80's movie has got to be The Breakfast Club!!! I can quote every line (which is why Henry refuses to watch it with me)!
:

Dh gave me the brat pack-3 pack for my birthday a few years ago, it has The Breakfast Club, 16 Candles and Weird Science. I can quote Breakfast Club and drive him nuts too. But the funniest thing is, so can our 15 yo...she loves these movies and is worse then I am about remembering all the lines!!!

OK, I know it's been answered half a dozen times, but...where do I find the elastic thread for shirring? I'm going to give it a try this weekend.
