Would you mind sharing what pattern you used for the pants? I've never made pants or shorts but really want to (esp. if they are easy!).

They are McCalls 4006 but I have also used McCalls M5310 (this one has the bodice I use for stripwork tops as well). I have a very hard time finding jeans that fit my daughter so I do a lot of pants as well as skorts and skirts. HTH!

Just one more to go!
I bought some Aristocat Marie fabric from you know where a long time ago and finally used it. DD's middle name is Marie, so a Marie outfit was a must, but fabric is sooooo hard to find! I was also making a twirl top to go with this as well, kind of like aimeeg's cinderella, only with Marie's face on the bodice. It looks good on paper and I've got the pieces cut out and mostly fused, but I just can't bring myself to actually applique it right now. I've got a few more things to sew for the trip, so if I get those finished and still have time, I may go ahead, but it's on the back burner for now.

marie2.jpg

Ok, I think that's it for now! Thanks if you stayed with me till the end of this monster post! Now I've got some catching up to do. . .

O.k. I really liked everything that you posted! I just got some knit fabric and plan on doing something with it, but since I haven't used knit yet, I was askeered! But since now that I know that you have used it successfully, I might have to give it a try!

The Marie outfit is OUTSTANDING! Oh, about 3 months ago, I attempted a Marie applique, I think is was just like yours. I gave up and threw it in the trash. My applique looked like "Appli caw caw!" Yours looks amazing!

I have been skimming over all these guys photos, but I must admit I had crushes on ALL of the Charlie's Angels, Marie Osmond, Dolly Parton (I can't even believe that I owned up to that one!), and Kristie McNichol.
Oh, and I remember Square Pegs! It was like totally awesome! He, he!

Thanks Steph!!!! I'm going to pick that pattern up this week. I have the same problem finding pants for my dd. If it were up to her she would wear a skirt or stretchie pants all the time!

Fork head. That's totally something I would say.

You know I just made B watch The Outsiders for the first time. He was like I'm gonna hate this, right? I was all "probably, but since it's a complete sin that your english teachers never made you read it, the least you can do is watch the movie!!"
I knew he'd hate it. I made him watch Hairspray and Crybaby (my very fave Johnny Depp pic!!!) and he hated them both, I had a feeling The Outsiders was gonna go the same way. I think he liked it well enough though.

Lloyd Lloyd all null and void!!! SWEET!

BTW I am way too young to actually know these things.:cutie:

I love the Outsiders. I had (ok, HAVE) an Outsiders poster that hung in our bedroom. C. Thomas Howell was my absolute favorite. Which is why I HAD to have that hat!!!

Umm, John Cusack and John Malkovich in the same movie? Of course I have seen it! After we saw it, my husband said, what the heck was that?
Gotta side with your husband on this one! I think it was the only John Cusack movie I've seen that I didn't like. My sister-in-law loved it, I should have known! :lmao:

OOPs, I was talking to Heather T was Feldman girl Sue!

I totally own it too and it was Jaime Gertz. Who got her start on Square Pegs along w/ Sarah Jessica Parker. She played a popular girl. Sarah Jessica, not so much!!! Of course I'm like the ONLY person who remembers Square Pegs.
...t.

I remember Square Pegs!!! I even remember reading the TV guide Fall Preview article about it "EEK EEK EEEK.... Here that sound? It's square pegs trying to fit into round holes..."
OK- it's a hijack of the original intent of the thread, but since everyone else is doing it, I'm gonna too!!! LOL

Just for you sahm1000- a pic I took from a recent concert I attended:

IMG_0487.jpg
[/IMG]
Don't quite know why, but this sent me into a fit of laughter!

Nope, I remember it too!:hyper2: I use to watch it.:happytv:

From Footloose on I couldn't quite accept Sarah Jessica Parker as a blonde. :confused3 Then when I watch her on Sex in the City I get flashbacks to her geek role on Square Pegs & can't grasp the cool girl she's trying to portray!!:upsidedow
I'm with you, that and Patrick Dempsie (is that his name? From Grey's Anatomy?) who was the nerd on Can't Buy Me Love. I mean, Come on, what are they trying to pull?

Have you guys een the McDonald's Chc Cha Slide commerical? I think it's one of those love it or hate it!! I love it!! I laugh every time I see it! It helps that DD tries to dance to it too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eN9KP6lOZs

I just played that and both girls got up and were "bustin a move" around the living room! Then, they made me play it again, and again, and again.... at least it's not the Leli Kelly comercial Lydia was having me play every day...

Hello Ladies and Tom! Been away for a few days (well, just lurking here and there.) I'll have to play catch-up tonight.

Next is the crayon roll-ups. These were posted a long time ago and have been on my to-do list since then. They are just too cute! And they come together very quickly, which is always a bonus. I normally wouldn't have put rick rack on the one for DS, but he said he wanted it "because it looks like dinosaur spikes." Who can argue with that?

crayonrolls1.jpg

crayonrolls2.jpg

These look cute, I love the dinosaur spikes!!!!
Ok, next are the I spy bags. Now after all the posts about these recently, I just HAD to make some. So, can y'all stop posting all these ridiculously cute things that I MUST make? :rotfl: Now, I must also tell you the best thing about these bags - I was remembering all these small toys I used to have as a kid that would have been perfect for these, and then I remembered that my mom used to have this huge jug of all these "junky" toys of mine - all the little toys and pieces of playsets that I had. So I called her up to see if maybe she still had it around. Sure enough - she did! So we went over and brought it home and dumped it out on the living room floor and the kids had an absolute blast going through all of my old toys! There was a TON of stuff perfect for I spy bags! I also went through my scrapbooking stash and found some fun stuff for them! These were WAY fun to make!

ispy1.jpg

ispy2.jpg
These are great, what did you fill them with?? Sorry if this has been answered, but I decided to post before reading every post. I love it that your mom still had the "jug o' junk"!!!! That is great!!! Still have to get my bag out of the van and take a picture of it! One of these days I'll remember to do that!
Still with me?
Here's an experimental shirt I made for DD with some thermal and some rib knit fabric. I had never worked with knits before, and I was dying to try one of those spiral hoodies I've seen on ebay. I searched and searched for the pattern for those hoodies (it's Farbenmix Jule but I could only find it in stock in a couple of stores - european, of course, and I'm too impatient to try and order from out of the country.) So, I played around with a couple of different patterns - Burda 9627 for the shirt and Burda 9676 for the hood, although it is just a plain hood - I added my own spiralie thingie. Anyhoo, I was thinking about doing something along these lines for that black and white Tinkerbell fabric. Thoughts?
snowmenfront.jpg

snowmenback.jpg
My thought is that I want to know how you did that!!! It looks great! I think it would look great in the Tink fabric!
Just one more to go!

Ok MISSY!!!!! I am going to send you a bill for a new laptop!!! When Lydia saw this outfit, she LITERALLY lunged at the screen, kissed it and would NOT stop hugging it until I pryed her off!!!! Literally! She LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVES Marie!!! We have also been in desperate search of Marie fabric! Problem is I'm way to cheap! This is an absolutely wonderful outfit!!! I love it too!!! Great, off to search Ebay for Marie fabric that I can't afford!

More of my favorite movies:

Footloose

Footloose footloose kickofff your Sunday shoes (know I will be singing that song all night):lmao:

and

Flashdance

Just love that movie.

Melanie

I love Footloose too!

Hi Everyone,

Okay - how about do you remember the show Emergency???? I loved Johnny Gauge!!!! Oh, and what about Shawn Cassidy?????

I just wresteled with making a tshirt top - how do you keep the fabric straight when you pin it to the shirt? I decided to leave the shirt long for warmth - not sure I love it, we will see....

Here are a few pics of my creations - still a newbie and trying hard, but having fun and fortunately, kids are so enthralled by the cool fabric they dont notice the imperfections!!!

How can I finish the face of the snowman on this top?

Not sure if DN will fit in these jeans yet, but if she does, i was thinking of some red rick rack along the bottom? any other suggestions?

Time for Beddie By!!!! Good night everyone!!

Don't forget Grease & Dirty Dancing for the ultimate chick flik fest!! Great movies, but I never realized how raunchy some of them are until my boys watched bits of them. ds(6) just stared at the Flashdancer & ds(3) shouted "that's a baaaad movie, don't wook!!! Ahk!" & ran outta the room!:rotfl:

Too funny!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Almost Paradise was the theme for our 8th grade dance. :)

Lost my quote: 2cutekidz I love that McDonalds commercial because it reminds me of the Mother/Son dance last year. They had a dj who played that song and Jacob made me do it with him. Can I tell you that song goes on forever? I thought it would never end! It was the only time he would do any dancing so I didn't mind.

I don't know that our 8th Grade Banquet had a theme, but my Mom and I made my dress. I don't have a picture of it here though. Or else I would share all my geeky 8th grade gloriousness with you all.

That is so sweet about the Mother Son dance!!!

Dirty Dancing

Thats why Patrick Swayze is on my list. Although I always thought I was prettier than baby. Is that bad??

Melanie

P.S. I own all these is that bad??
I do belive that calls for a picture of yourself!!!

Glorib- LOVE all that stuff!!! What is the stuff in the I spy bags? Are those little beads???

And now.................. for your viewing pleasure (and mine) ............. I would like to introduce my teenage crushes.... :cool1: :cool1:

Donny, the cutest boy from the 70's, Osmond!:goodvibes

237675.jpg

and...... remember the hottest TV doctor EVER.... Dr. Joe Gannon??? (aka Chad Everett)

He's Yummy!!! :cloud9:

chadeverett2a.jpg
Love Donny's shirt!!! I always thought he was pretty cute too!!!

I'm a little nervous now, waiting for the other shoe to drop since bad things always happen in 3s.
1. Fractured my foot slipping down the stairs 3 weeks before leaving for WDW.
2. A man rear ended my Mini van yesterday doing $4000 worth of damage and it will take a week to repair (all at his insurance cost of course.)
3. ? ? ?:scared1:
Uggh!! What a month! I hope it gets better! Was anyone hurt yesterday?

Oooooohhhhhhhhh..... I GET IT!!! You're hinting that you want a more current pic of him! Well............. here ya go!! ;)

689donnyosmond_l1.jpg

Not too bad for a guy that's gonna be 50 next month- huh?

I must say, he is still one good looking guy!!!

I'm a little bit country, I'm a little bit rock and roll...

Loved that show! I remember looking forward all week until it was on!

I had that record too! How funny!

Ok, I got a little bit of sewing done while singing songs in my head and looking at heartthrobs. Oh, Heather I forgot to say I used the ruffler foot on the bottom ruffle on the top! I hate it, mostly because I didn't know what I was doing. I have to play with it more I guess, I forgot to turn the tension way up like it said in the YCMT pdf. I chickened out for the ruffles on the pants and just gathered them by hand. Here is the completed outfit:

th_100_1979.jpg

Ok, now I have to just get my house picked up and the kids and I packed. We are leaving for my parents tomorrow and it's quite a mess! Does anyone else have to furiously clean the house before they leave?

It looks great Steph! Didn't you "optmize your ruffler" before you started? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: (That just makes me laugh!)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE (get the picture) this commercial... it and the car commercial where the Animals are singing...here's a link... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBwBTlt64jY

It's been crazy around here and I haven't posted in awhile - I did get a job - THANK GOODNESS - it's a little farther than I wanted to travel but it's a great opportunity and the $$ is good. I start Monday so I have been trying to get myself caught up around the house!

Oh and I have a short (HAHAHA) story to share...

Today I was in JoAnn's to get some more of that holiday dog fabric to redo some pants that I thought I had made upside down (if I had read the instructions a 50th time I would have realized that they weren't) and the lady in front of me had a picture printed from Disney's website and a Disney name tag on. So being the shy person I am I asked her what she was making. She was getting fabric to wrap boxes in for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. Apparently they were for Cinderella's step sisters and step mother's greeting area right outside Ariel's Grotto. Kinda neat to see the conceptual art type thing for it! The fabric's she picked were GREAT!!!

Off to put DD to bed (she's up WAY late) and then watch House. I'll post the outfits tomorrow!

Kristina

Yeah on the job!!!!! And, very cool story!!!!!

Ok, House hasn't come on yet, and you think your daughter is up late????? Oh, I can only wish. Lydia is a nightowl! She stay up REALLY REALLY late. She's still going strong right now. Although, I think she looks a little sleepy. I even woke her up early this morning!

He, he!

Funny, I was just saying to someone the other day (probably Heather) "What has happened to Kristy McNichol?" Seriously, I was wondering that. I always thought she was so cool when I was growing up. (no crush though!) We use to watch her on Family.

I did have a crush on her brother though. At least, I think it was her brother. I can't remember his first name right now, although James or Jimmy keeps popping into my head.

I thought I would ask this question here, because I trust everyone's advice so much.
DW asked me what I would like for Christmas. Can you believe I told her an embroidery machine! Yikes! If the guys at work knew that, I would never hear the end of it!
Anyway, I think is was Nana that did the Machine embroidered turkey applique, and I just like how smooth and perfect it looked, (yes my perfectionism is showing through!)
I know that I have seen on YCMT the files that you can buy to make these appliques, but what machine would you recommend?
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Hey Tom - before I head to bed for the night, I can tell you that Nana is sleeping right now, because she's going to be heading out to drive down here to FL to visit for Thanksgiving! So, I'll see if she can give you her answer tomorrow when she gets here.

I do know that she's getting a newer, bigger, better one than her current one (because that one is going to me), and I don't know what either of them are, but I'm sure that she could give you some insight (along with at least a few others on this board that have embroidery machines).

Nighty-night all!!!

Time for Beddie By!!!! Good night everyone!!
I remember Emergency! Ah yes, Shawn Cassidy.....

I like your snowman outfit!!! I am thinking little black button eyes, and/or some french knots embroidered on for the eyes and mouth. Hmm, what about the nose though...... I'm not sure about that.

The back does tie here's a photo
th_IMG_4872.jpg

I made these shorts to go with the top
th_IMG_4917.jpg

Here's another set I made with matching pants
th_IMG_4913.jpg

Thanks for the pics, now I get it. Those are cuuute! I've not seen a pair of shorts with an applique like that...it's cute! And I love the second outfit. Love that material. Thanks for posting these!!!

I LOVED Carey Elwes in a few of his films, but he never really "did it" for me. LOVED Princess Bride. I did like Mandy Patankin in that until my MOM said she had a crush on him! EEWW!! That's why Harrison Ford can never be o my list, he's on my Mom's list.
:lmao: :lmao:

OH NO!!! :lmao: That is too funny! Of course, it reminds me of the time I overflowed the toilet at my uncle's house when I was about 11 years old. Water just kept coming out of the toilet and I didn't know what to do. It wasn't clean water, either...

Ah Yes, this wasn't exactly clean either. And it happened the other day too with my five yo. Whilst dh sat on a barstool reading the paper, not five feet from the bathroom door, totally and completely oblivious to the fact that it was a three towel overflow. Sigh. Apparently it's not my week for potties.

I'm not 100% sure why appliques bother him, it's sensory based. For the past year he only wears plain, no graphics, no silk screen, no applique boring shirts. Nothing that adds any weight, texture or anything-can he tolerate. No tags in anything either, since he was a baby. Use to be only 100% cotton for the longest time, but I think he's building a tolerance. because our Disneyland shirts were 50/50. His senses in his skin are in overdrive & what doesn't seem like anything to most is horrible for him. :sad1:
I hope you find the stuff that Nana recommended to you!!! And, I hope it works so he can have his Kachow! back!!

Safe travels to her, and have a very nice Thanksgiving!

Where are Spongie and Utahmama when you need them? These people need to be educated about the Osmonds!

I feel so bad that you all have not experienced "puppy love" via these guys! They were the heartthrobs of my day.....

I can see you maybe not knowing Dr. Gannon (Chad Everett), but... DONNY OSMOND?? You don't know him? He and his family have been all over the tv the past month!

Oooooohhhhhhhhh..... I GET IT!!! You're hinting that you want a more current pic of him! Well............. here ya go!! ;)

Just had to jump in here--Spongie and Utahmama were at my house!

But anyhoo, I love Donny. And apparently he is a very nice guy in real life. My BIL was building a house for him and whenever Donny was around he was soooo nice to the guys working there. He even helped haul some heavy stuff around. I had the Donny and Marie barbies when I was little. They came with a poster of each of them (wearing purple). As a joke my friend and I hung the Donny poster in our locker in High School and the 2 guys next to us begged for Marie, so they hung her in their locker. Good times....good times.

.

Oh oh oh ....this is EXACTLY the kind of shirt I WANT for my little one. I LOVE the way this turned out. However did you do the spirally hood part, do you have a pattern for that part??? Oh and this may be a lame question but how did you get that stitching type thing on the bottom and on the sleeves? I don't even know what to call that?? Is that what a Serger does? Again, a lame question I am sure ....sorry!!!

I JUST LOVE THIS THOUGH and really, really, really, really want to learn how to make one for my DD!!!

I finally got all caught back up and just had to say that I love all the new creations on here. Oh and I also had quite a few laughs reading through all the crushes you guys have had!!! However, I think you all missed the most IMPORTANT and CUTEST CRUSHES OF THEM ALL. Here are MINE:

1. Mickey Mouse
2. Donald Duck
3. Goofy
4. Pluto
5. Chip & Dale

P.S. Ohh I almost forgot, if any of you need pictures, just let me know. :rotfl2: :lmao:

Did you guys have fun??? I am really really jealous!!!

Wow, Donny hauling heavy stuff around...... You didn't go over there to help out too?

Your mention of the locker poster got me thinking, and I don't want to brag or anything, but my friend Becky and I had the best decorated locker in our school. We always shared a locker, and would stay after school the first week just to get it decorated just so. My favorite was the year we bought gold wrapping paper, it was the really pretty shiny kind. And hung our Outsiders guys pictures on it. (You know, "Stay gold Ponyboy, stay gold." I believe there were some sunset pictures in there as well. I know Becky took pictures of it, but I don't think I ever saw them. We also had the bowflex guy picture in there too. The one where he is taking his shirt off over his head to reveal how well that bowflex works on your abs.

Hey there everyone! Sorry - didn't mean to post and run - I was cutting and sewing a Turkey dress for DD. Last minute - I know. I'm such a procrastinator sometimes.

Thanks so much for all the wonderdul compliments on all my projects! It truly means the world to me! TeresaJoy- you'll have to thank Lydia and tell her that her reaction was the best compliment a person could ask for!! But please don't bill me for the laptop - I spent all my money on that Marie fabric! :rotfl:

Now to answer some questions -

I stuffed my I spy bags with beads. I used 2 sizes - the teeny tiny ones and the next size up.

The edges on the hoodie are a rolled hem done on a serger. It's a lettuce edge hem. You just set your serger up for a rolled hem, except you just stretch the fabric as you sew to get the ruffly look. Very fun to do!

I CASEd that spiral pattern - I just drew a spiral (kind of like a shell) and attached it to the end of a hood pattern. I'll take a pic tomorrow and post.

Good night all!

The laptop seems to have survived "Lydia Attack 2007"! The screens a bit smeared from the kiss though! I tried to take a picture of it for you (Lydia hugging the laptop) but, I had limited mobility since the laptop was, well, on my lap and Lydia was on top of that! I quickly reached for my camera, but Corey had taken the batteries out! But, trust me, it was really cute!

I just told Lydia what you said. (yeah, she's STILL up, I told you she was a nightowl!) and she is beaming! "I bet now eveyone knows that Marie is my most favoritest character in the world." (Only Heather will fully understand how funny that sounded, since she is the only one that has heard Lydia's voice!)

I love the beads!!! I may have to raid Arminda's bead box! That looks so pretty!

Good night all! I am going to try to get Lydia to sleep.

Time for Beddie By!!!! Good night everyone!!

Great job.....really like the one with Mickey on the jeans...did you paint that on or is it an iron on????? Cute! And I agree, if you wanted to tie the top and bottom together....add a ruffle or rick rack! :cutie: :cutie: :cutie:

th_100_4948.jpg

These take practice! I sew a basting stitch around the bottom of the T so it doesn't stretch. Then I sew a gathering stitch on the fabric and pin in place. The gathering stitch helps keep the fabric from shifting a little, but lots of pins is the only other thing I can suggest! This looks very cute, BTW, my dd2 loves Charlie Brown and I have no idea why!!! She watched the Tgiving one last night on TV and watches the Great Pumpkin as often as I will let her!!!
