Just Beautiful!!!! - Oh and the outfit is gorgeous too :)

The other Lori (I don't think everyone here realizes their are two - someone quoted my words one day and commented on an outfit you made)

No willing model , but here is my outfit from... well you know. I think I am going to make a red peasant top to match using the red (Bottom ruffle) fabric, but wouldn't you know it, not enough fabric!! I have to get more anyway for DN's set. I even made covered buttons!

Very cute! I wish I had the time to make a turkey outfit now!

Okay, I have been sewing like mad, and here is my creation!:woohoo:

What do you think? You guys have given me such great ideas! I am going to start on my other daughter's dress now. I got a black and white polka dot material, and I am going to accent with red. I love this topic!

I finally dusted off my sewing machine, and got to work...and completed my first project. Keep in mind that I am a newbie at sewing, so it is definitely not perfect. I made the skirt, but the t-shirt is from Target...do you think the skirt look OK with it, and do you think the skirt is wearable by my 4 yo to the pumpkin patch field trip on Monday? Since this is my first skirt, I am just really paranoid that it just scream "IMPERFECT" to everyone! I am really not sure about my fabric choice....what do you think?

One day, I hope to be just as creative as all of you here...but for now, I am sticking with the simple things!

I don't see any imperfections - looks great!

I think that is very cute! My dd8 is patiently waiting for a skirt made of that material! I've messed it up twice and been dreading picking it up again! You've really done a great job!

Question for you all. I always topstitch every ruffle - or tier to make it lay nicely. Do you all do that? Or does it just lay right for you anyway? For me it just "finishes" the outfit - but I was curious what the majority here does.
Lori

Thanks! I haven't sewed in a long time, and I was surprised at how quickly this came together. The other dress I may just make a "pillowcase" dress with my material. My other daughter loves those type dresses. Or, has anyone made the twirl skirt, but attached it to a bodice? My dd loves to twirl.

Here's dd2's Monsters Inc outfit that she's been wanting. I made a matching skirt last night, but haven't gotten pics yet. I will get it on her before lunch, I promise!!! I used a pair of corduroy's that she already had, I wasn't sure about the decoupage on corduroy, but it works great! I've also started using a nailbrush (for cleaning fingernails) to gently start the fraying of my patches.

TIP for decoupage: If you didn't know this already double stitch your patches!!!!!! The HSM jeans I made for dd8 & dd7 are starting to fall apart! Now I stitch around about 1/4" in from edge, then again about 1/8" inside that. It makes the world of difference!!!

Deann, this is SOOOOO cute!!! I am coveting that Monsters material!!!

HI Everyone,

Outfits are looking GREAT!! you all have such cool ideas!!!

I was wondering - how many people actually use a pattern they buy and how many people kind of "wing it"???

How do you go about making a "Twirl Top"? That would be incredibly cute!!!

Is Joann's having any good sales this weekend????

Happy Saturday!

Wendy:laundy:

Before I found this thread, I thought I needed a pattern for everything, but now I think it is easier to wing it most of the time. I like to use the directions in the bookmarks, because they usually use the actual measurements of your child to make the outfit, so they fit better.

Monsters Inc Skirt. Here's the skirt I made last night... She loves to pose! She does the "cheese" face too!

And here is an outfit I made for a customer. I made one of the tshirt dresses for dgd2! These are some of my favorites so far! The pics are not great, my camera stinks!!!

You know Deann, your daughter is stinking cute!!!! I just love these outfits! For some reason, i'm craving a giant lolipop though!

I personally have Muffin Topper TOPPERS. :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: Yep proud owner of several "rolls" I'm thinking though without them, the "girls" would be at my knees!!!!
Oh my gosh!!! That is so funny!!! I like your thinking though!!!

Lori
Lori, your daughters are STUNNING!!! How absolutely beautiful! And, I love it that they wanted to know where they were!
When you make that shirt, make sure you don't sew the sides together until after you attach the sleeve!! Then, you just sew the sides together and the sleeves up at the same time (if that doesn't make sense, ask Teresa to explain it better). I did it the way the pattern said- sew up the side of the shirt, sew up the sleeves, then turn it inside out, gather the sleeve, then attach it to the shirt. But the sleeve was so little, it wouldn't fit around my sewing machine and it was REALLY hard to sew it without sewing the sleeve shut.

If you go to the peasant top in the bookmaks that is on the Sewingmamas site, it gives really good directions with pictures of what I told Heather.
Can you guess which one? :confused3

Cindee

hint..... I am in Orlando
Ok, I was going to say Castle Creations even BEFORE she posted! Do I get a prize???? ;)

VERY cute!!!
I know this is going to sound terrible...I apologize in advance and to those of you who don't want to hear something naughty, don't look...close your eyes now and keep going.....

I never knew anyone who sat on a scissors....but I have had patients who sat on a right guard can, a pillar candle, and and various other things I can't mention....I was smiling when I read those posts about the scissors.....

Oh my! :rotfl: Let me state again though, that the scissors were in my butt CHEEK. ;)

ohhhh just finished a litle football outfit, I took the pic from the rightside and it looks a little wierd. should have taken from the front! But here is the finished one ready for some SUNDAY FOOTBALL!!!!

I bet Nicholas looks adorable in this!!!

Hee Hee! That cracked me yup! On me, the lower the rise on my jeans, the bigger my "MT"....I need MOM Jeans! :scared:

Typo? I'm sure you meant crackyied you up!

Hmmm...that's a tough one...I may need another hint...LOL...
I had a great time with you and your family. I bought the pictures of the girls with Elmo..they were too cute... Thanks for letting us borrow your VIP status to get us good seats at the show...LOL. We just got home and we are exhausted. Ireland is sleeping with her picture under her pillow and is determined to see your daughter again, on the way home, she told me that she misses her already and (insert whiney voice) just has to play with her again... I will post the photo tomorrow if you don't mind, or I can email it to you. Also let me know, thru PM, if you want to get together again. We can always hit the mall, or fabric hunt...LOL. Thanks again for everything. You are too sweet, and great job on the pirate costume...Loved it!!-- Lisa

Sounds like you guys had so much fun!!! I hope you can post some pictures!

Very cute. Do you use a pattern for the skirt or just some simple measurements?

There are some directions for these twirl skirts in the bookmarks. They are really easy to make, and turn out so cute! The link is in my signature, and in the first post of this thread.

I personally like the way that looks. Like you said, it just finishes it to me.

I don't know why that wouldn't work. I know there are patterns out there for that type of dress. The Simba dress that Heather made for Tessa was like that.

I don't on my skirts, but I do on tops or bodices.

Deann, this is SOOOOO cute!!! I am coveting that Monsters material!!!

I might have some left, for someone that could hem a stupid spiral skirt for me with one of those nifty hemming feet! ;)

I am SO glad to hear you say that!! As I was seam-ripping DD's costume for the 100th time, my husband came by and said "I bet Teresa doesn't have to use the seam ripper this much". :duck: He's lucky he didn't get a seam ripper to the eye! :rotfl2:
.

I love the confidence Henry has in my abilities!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao: Of course, a seam ripper is very small, and often lost around here, so I don't use it too often! :rotfl2:

HEY! I have one of those nifty hemming feet!!!!

ETA: Ok, I lied, it's Corey's nifty hemming foot, but I have access to it!

I have a tip...tell the husband to turn down Nascar so you can concentrate on your sewing...LOL

My sister once stuck a knitting needle all the way through my hand ... it didn't hurt, but I ran around the house with this thing sticking through my hand and playing it to the hilt to get sympathy and get her in trouble!

Went to the Amish quilt shops in the tourist traps in Lancaster county today...got lots of beautiful fabric from the quilt shops. Now if I could just get my lazy self out of this bed and do something useful....I am the GREAT PROCRASTINATOR....years ago I was sewing my DD into a twirling costume as she was getting in line to compete...LOSER I am such a LOSER
Susan

We might be related! I am working on Drew's dress for her pictures that we are taking tomorrow. I actually think I am putting it away till morning and I'll put the sash on it then. I was going to take a pic and ask for opinions on the sash, but I am too lazy.

I think it looks adorable. I have been sewing during the race, too. DH has the tv up horribly loud!!!:happytv:
I am going to WalMart tomorrow after church on a fabric hunt for a twirl skirt.

I loved my Ob-Gyn when I was in OP. I went to Dr. Stites and she delivered my DD4. Absolutely loved her! I don't know if this is who your friend goes to but I had to commen.

That's not her ob/gyn but it's mine! She's delivered both of my girls and I would never see anyone else. When my dd10 was born with a tumor she was soooooooo good to me. She even found my maiden name so she could call my mom and dad's house on Thanksgiving and find out how Riley was doing when she was still in Children's Mercy.

My friend actually is just seeing her primary care family doc. I've tried to get her to see a gyn but she doesn't want the hassle of seeing 2 different people. I know she'd change her mind , but I don't think she'll ever go.

The good news is that the lump that the doc felt on her stomache wasn't there today. It does look like she has kidney stones though.

Lori

I always top stitch. I just prefer the way it looks and I think it helps the ruffle lay better and cuts down on ironing after washing.
