No willing model , but here is my outfit from... well you know. I think I am going to make a red peasant top to match using the red (Bottom ruffle) fabric, but wouldn't you know it, not enough fabric!! I have to get more anyway for DN's set. I even made covered buttons!

I know this is going to sound terrible...I apologize in advance and to those of you who don't want to hear something naughty, don't look...close your eyes now and keep going.....

I never knew anyone who sat on a scissors....but I have had patients who sat on a right guard can, a pillar candle, and and various other things I can't mention....I was smiling when I read those posts about the scissors.....

My sister once stuck a knitting needle all the way through my hand ... it didn't hurt, but I ran around the house with this thing sticking through my hand and playing it to the hilt to get sympathy and get her in trouble!

Went to the Amish quilt shops in the tourist traps in Lancaster county today...got lots of beautiful fabric from the quilt shops. Now if I could just get my lazy self out of this bed and do something useful....I am the GREAT PROCRASTINATOR....years ago I was sewing my DD into a twirling costume as she was getting in line to compete...LOSER I am such a LOSER

I finally dusted off my sewing machine, and got to work...and completed my first project. Keep in mind that I am a newbie at sewing, so it is definitely not perfect. I made the skirt, but the t-shirt is from Target...do you think the skirt look OK with it, and do you think the skirt is wearable by my 4 yo to the pumpkin patch field trip on Monday? Since this is my first skirt, I am just really paranoid that it just scream "IMPERFECT" to everyone! I am really not sure about my fabric choice....what do you think?

One day, I hope to be just as creative as all of you here...but for now, I am sticking with the simple things!

Thank you so much for the great ideas! I think I may make some pants rather than jeans because she is not walking yet and that may be a little more comfy for her to crawl in! And I think sometimes the outfits you make can be more expensive but the ones I like are on ebay for like 50-100 dollars and I can SURELY make them for less than that! So I think it all evens out in the end and your children are soo cute in customs!:)

That is my justification too about the cost of everything, cheaper than if I bought it on Ebay!

I was working on a dress for my dd5 to wear in our family pictures Sunday last night and I got to the point where I was just making one mistake after another. I have a hard time sewing when my concentration is not 100%. I am kind of a perfectionist (not in the way that stuff comes out perfect, just in the way that I am never completely satisfied with my work;) ), so I had to step away last night!

I really dislike getting family pictures taken!!!! I always get ideas about what the 4 of us could wear and then I never find everything and the pics never happen! My nephew is starting a career as a photographer so I really need to make this look good for his portfolio. I'm off today to get some odds & ends and then I am home and back to work!

Here is a link to the pics. he's already done for us. Go to the blog and scroll down to Riley and Drew. I'd love some outfit ideas if anyone has any that they have done or seen for black and white family pics.

www.paulvphoto.com

I love white or black shirts/sweaters, jeans or khakies and bare feet for black and white.

There is a trick for Hancocks. If you sign up for emails they send you a flyer. Print the flyer and take it to Walmart. They match prices. I know sometimes our Hancocks sells out of patterns and I was able to get them at Walmart.

I've got to try this! Thanks for the idea!

What is YCMT? I need those directions! haha! I have started on a dress, going to try to finish this weekend!

YCMT is www.youcanmakethis.com. It's a great website

The book I used and that worked was Teaching Yourself Visually to Crochet. That and there is the Happy Hooker. Between the two of them I was able to figure it all out

Good luck!

How come nobody else caught this! Happy Hooker!! Are you kidding me! Are you sure it's for crocheting? Okay, sorry if that is too much for a disney website but I couldn't help myself.

Thanks for all of the picture ideas everyone! I got the girls some really cute white shirts at Gap yesterday that have just a tiny bit of beading on them and myself a knit white shirt that has a tiny ruffle at the neck. I guess dh will just wear a white button up. I just hope when I put my jeans on tomorrow that I am not hanging over the top!

I am taking a friend to the hospital this morning for some tests. They found a lump in her stomach at her gyn appt last week so she is having a sonogram. After that I am picking up my kids, running around like crazy finding the last few things we need to wear and then coming home and finishing Drew's dress. I still have to put the zipper in!!!!!!!!!!! Yikes!

Wish me luck. I feel terrible about it but I have a sick feeling that I might have to play hookee from church tomorrow to get all of this finished up by 1:00 tomorrow.

I loved my Ob-Gyn when I was in OP. I went to Dr. Stites and she delivered my DD4. Absolutely loved her! I don't know if this is who your friend goes to but I had to commen.

Oh, I hate when needles break but especially so close to the end of a project! I've noticed that my ruffler foot will loosen the needle because of all the jiggling so I try to tightern it as much as I can. I also stock up on needles when JAs has their notions at 50% off.

Aside from pants, I mostly "wing it". I have to admit, though, it can be frustrating when it doesn't come out as envisioned. I don't like most of the patterns available from McCall's, Simplicity, etc. but have heard great things about the Farbenmix and Ottobre Design patterns. I recently ordered an issue of Ottobre Design - which is a magazine that includes a lot of patterns but they have to be traced. I hope it arrives soon because they have such cute designs that I think are perfect for customizing. I'll probably still "wing it" for some things but I'm ready to concede I'm not a pattern maker. ;)

That's what my concern is, too. I haven't made a tshirt dress before but worry if I did one in Zoe's size, the weight of the attached fabric would be heavy and stretch the knit. I thought it would be really cute to make some tunic tops in this style for Zoe to wear with leggings. Maybe the shorter length of the attached fabric would work OK.

I'd love to know the largest size someone has done for a tshirt dress.

I did a t-shirt dress for DD4 in an Old Navy shirt size 5. She is thin but tall and loves to twirl. It was black and had cheetah and zebra print tiers on it. I couldn't find any apparel weight fabric in the animal prints (for Animal Kingdom)at the time and ended up with upholstery fabric so it was very heavy but it held to the shirt without stretching. It had three ruffled tiers on it so it was heavy but the shirt held up.

I would love to try some of those European patterns but I am way too much of a beginner! I love the look of them.

I finally dusted off my sewing machine, and got to work...and completed my first project. Keep in mind that I am a newbie at sewing, so it is definitely not perfect. So, I have to ask! Where have you guys found the adorable green/purple polka dot fabric to go with the previous Tink and this Monsters outfit??? :confused3

Yep, Walmart!

I got my needles!! As soon as the kiddos go down for a nap, I am back to tackling the "Outfit from Hell"!! It will not defeat me!! LOL What sucks is that I KNOW I have more needles, I just can't find them!! It's one of those, "I'll put them ___ so I know where to find them later!" I Never remember where I put them!! I did this with a new pair of Stride Rite shoes for DS. I searched for them for weeks. DH finally found them - in my glove box! ***?!? I definately don't remember putting them there! :confused3

Look in there and tell me if you see dd7's left Disney croc!!!! It's been missing for a couple weeks now and I told her she can't go to wdw without it!!! I'm sure the playroom has consumed it, but they refuse to look!

OH, BTW Joann's is having a big sale starting the 20th - 27th. Butterick & Simplicity patterns .99, 50% off thread, christmas fabrics and a whole bunch more!! The flyer also came with 2 50% off any one item coupons!!

:yay: :yay: :yay: Well, I would be dancing, but just found out today that our van has to go into the shop for front-end work and I can't even drive it until it gets fixed!!!!! :sad2: So, no Joanns for me this week! Or anywhere else for that matter! Oh well, I guess I'll have to stay home and sew!

OMG Lori, that is gorgeous!

On the decoupage jeans...I zig-zagged around the patches on Tessa's. Do you think they'll hold?

I'm not sure, I didn't do zigzag the first time I only did a straight stitch? I hope they hold for you!

That is super cute!!!! I was going to make one of the beautiful pumpkin outfits that was on here, but my WM is out of that fabric now. I might have to make something like this!!

I think it's adorable! You did a fantastic job for your first try!!

I need to make a jumper for my ds for Halloween. Dh would not let me buy a pattern (or even look at patterns) when we went to the store.

I don't follow patterns very well, but I am stressing over making this jumper.

Anastasia now asks where she is! Thank goodness nicholas can't talk otherwise he will be asking also! So, Here is Anastasia in a great snowflake outfit. I did not make it I can not take credit for it! There is a pettiskirt under the top skirt.

I LOVE it! Great job! I'd certainly let her wear it to the pumpkin patch - it'll be perfect!

Thanks everyone! I am just really excited to get it completed and now I can't wait to get started on my next projects, but just not sure what yet. Love this thread, and looking at all the custom creations!

HONEY....Muffin Toppers are not attractive!!!! You did make me laugh though!!

I personally have Muffin Topper TOPPERS. :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: Yep proud owner of several "rolls" I'm thinking though without them, the "girls" would be at my knees!!!!
Hee Hee! That cracked me yup! On me, the lower the rise on my jeans, the bigger my "MT"....I need MOM Jeans! :scared:
Cuuuuuute!

A football outfit! it's cute! You'll have to post a picture of the owner wearing it
Here it is...

When I make another one (this is actually my second) I will
1) Buy the right size tee
2) Cut more of the actual tee off...starting with the material higher
3) Measure my child
Thanks for the tips! My dd loves My Little Pony so I had to scroll quickly before she saw that. I think it's really sweet!

Ohhhh! A thanksgiving outfit! Now there's an idea! You really did a fantastic job!

Thanks a lot! Now Tessa want to know when I'm making her one of those "cute flying pony outfits". It's really cute!

:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: I never thought of my rolls as a built-in bra. But, you're absolutely right! :rotfl2:
The fabric is from Waldamort. My rolls are definately lifters, just wish they seperated too!!

Oh..that is too cute! I better not let my dd see this because I am sure she will ask for one just like that. She looks at all the wonderful creations here and tells me that she them all!

Thanks!!

Can you guess which one? :confused3

Cindee

hint..... I am in Orlando

Hmmm...that's a tough one...I may need another hint...LOL...
I had a great time with you and your family. I bought the pictures of the girls with Elmo..they were too cute... Thanks for letting us borrow your VIP status to get us good seats at the show...LOL. We just got home and we are exhausted. Ireland is sleeping with her picture under her pillow and is determined to see your daughter again, on the way home, she told me that she misses her already and (insert whiney voice) just has to play with her again... I will post the photo tomorrow if you don't mind, or I can email it to you. Also let me know, thru PM, if you want to get together again. We can always hit the mall, or fabric hunt...LOL. Thanks again for everything. You are too sweet, and great job on the pirate costume...Loved it!!-- Lisa

UMMM the biggest t shirt dress I have made is a size 6. (my daughter wears a four:lmao: ) I liked the tee shirt, it was only in a six, so I bought it, and figured it couldn't be that far off??? FOOL!!! I did the fabric 45 inches times 2 I think. Whatever it was the width of the yard, times 2. Well I didn't have DD on hand, so I guessed:confused3 (wouldn't recommend this method:thumbsup2 ) on the length. So when she got home, it goes to her toes. It will probably fit her when she is 10. I think I posted it a while ago, I will look. Anyway, when she runs in it, and trips on the hem, it STILL dosen't pull on the fabric. So you guys should be safe:love:

Here it is...
Picture029.jpg

When I make another one (this is actually my second) I will
1) Buy the right size tee
2) Cut more of the actual tee off...starting with the material higher
3) Measure my child

They are very easy really. I have some flannel paisley I bought as a remnant that i will try out one of these days on a long sleeved tee. I am thinking of making it long on purpose to use as a nightgown. (course it will probably be too short, and will end up a dress:))

That's cute! I've done the same thing - tried to guess at measurements while Zoe was sleeping and went VERY wrong. I made a pair of pants recently that I'd cut out last year. I knew they'd still fit but thought length would be too short so I added a cuff of a solid color. Well, once I had her try them on I saw they'd have been just a bit long without the cuff. Yesterday I decided to measure her and actually write down the measurements! What I novel idea, I know. It'll save me from the attitude I get after asking her to stop what she's doing to let me measure her... again.

I'm thinking I'd cut the tee so it's about Empire style. She has a little tummy so I think having the seam above that will be best. I love the idea of nightgowns, too! I bought some flannel last year when JoAnn's had it on sale after Thanksgiving. For some reason I only bought 1 yard pieces so it's not enough for pants but I think it might be enough for nightgowns and we have way too many solid tees around because I'm a sucker for clearance sales. :rotfl:

I am SO glad to hear you say that!! As I was seam-ripping DD's costume for the 100th time, my husband came by and said "I bet Teresa doesn't have to use the seam ripper this much". :duck: He's lucky he didn't get a seam ripper to the eye! :rotfl2:

I really don't think anyone who sews, no matter how long they've been doing it, doesn't have times when the seam ripper is needed. I keep one next to my sewing machine, one near where I do hand sewing and one in my bedroom plus I have at least 2 extras for back-up since I always seem to end up misplacing one.

On the decoupage jeans...I zig-zagged around the patches on Tessa's. Do you think they'll hold?

I used a zigzag stitch on the first decoupage jeans I made for Zoe and I didn't see any stitching coming out after several wash and dries. I do try to always start and end the stitching of one patch where the next patch will overlap it so the stitching of that overlapping patch will help hold the stitching of the previous one. (I hope that made sense!) I do think straight stitches are more likely to start pulling out on their own so I'd suggest backstitching the beginning and end to add more security. I mostly use decorative stitches which seem much more secure since they often have back stitching, small stitches and/or stitches crossing previous stitches.

I am really not sure about my fabric choice....what do you think?

th_hellokittyskirt1.jpg

I think it looks great! Of course what is most important is how your DD reacts... and I bet you'll have trouble getting her to stop twirling! :goodvibes

BTW - Perfection is over-rated. I'm hyper-critical of my own work but try to remember that I'm not a machine so some imperfections are likely to happen no matter how hard I try. As long as the garment looks good, fits nicely and lasts, minor imperfections are unlikely to be noticed by anyone other than someone who feels the need to find mistakes in everything... except their own work. :rolleyes1

I would love to try some of those European patterns but I am way too much of a beginner! I love the look of them.

Some of the patterns in the Ottobre magazine look fairly simple but they are a great base for embellishment. I'm hoping the issue I ordered arrives next week so I can start experimenting.

The fabric is from Waldamort. My rolls are definately lifters, just wish they seperated too!!

Unfortunately my rolls don't have much to lift. ;) Maybe if I get some really high waisted tight jeans, I can use the rolls as filler rather than lifters. :lmao:

Very cute. Do you use a pattern for the skirt or just some simple measurements?

That's what my concern is, too. I haven't made a tshirt dress before but worry if I did one in Zoe's size, the weight of the attached fabric would be heavy and stretch the knit. I'd love to know the largest size someone has done for a tshirt dress.

DD wears a size 6 and I made one for her. I think the key is not to use a heavy fabric - and not a bunch of layers. This is the one I made.
