Ok - I have a few things to share. I tried the Hannah skirt on her for you all! (oh BTW DD lost her front tooth yesterday - too much change for me this week - first the hair then the tooth!) I am still looking for a purple top to embellish to go with it. I have looked everywhere! What do you all think of using another color - not black though. The Minnie top is not done yet. I still need to add the white lace and ric-rac on the bottom, but JoAnn (two of them) are out of the eyelet lace I need. I may add a minnie head to the top too. The last one is for school and I am so PROUD of it! It may not look like much but I love how it turned out - and I didn't use a pattern at all! Big step for me! DD loves it all too!

Super Cute!! I love the Minnie!

I think the Hannah Montana skirt turned out great! What about a purple top? Purple would match the tulle really well!

I really LOVE the way that this skirt turned out. It's really cute. And I also love the toothless grin. Did that come out right? I meant, the grin with a tooth missing... am I, oh pooh, I think it's cute! Where did I leave my smart pills, cause I forgot to take them today! (They really need one of these smiley's hitting themselves in the head with their hand or banging their head against the wall. It would definetly be the one I'd use the most.)

That's my problem - I can't find a purple top anywhere. :(

Ah, what a cute smile! I understand the comment about too much change, though. The closer it gets to school starting, the hard it is to accept my baby is that old!

I think a top in a similar green as the one she has on would work well. You could add some matching green trim (like ricrac) to the skirt above the tulle ruffle to bring out that color in the skirt.

Okay guys let me know what you think of this bracelet. It's the ONLY thing I've gotten done in 3 days.

This is for my oldest dd's special treat at WDW. Each of the charms will represent something from her day of star treatment.

bracelet.jpg

The bracelet itself is a bunch of entwined hearts.

The tiara represents her day of being a princess. (It's kind of hidden under the ribbon)
The cross is for her "christ like actions"
The heart is for my love for her
The flip flop represents her pedicure
The teapot and cup are for her "grown-up tea party at GF"
The picture frame will be filled with a pic of just she and I from our "day"
The purse is for a little shopping spree on her own
And the cheshire cat represents her very first tea party with Alice and the Mad Hatter when she was 5 years old at WDW right after her dad and I divorced. That trip was Her and I against the world.:cloud9:
Beautiful! What a treasure this will be for her!

It's Wonderful. I think she will love it. You to are going to have a magical day together. Enjoy yourselves.

I have to say this again -- you guys are crazy talented. I'm so impressed with all the stuff you make.

But I have to ask -- when do you sleep?

When the kids let me. And that feels like its not nearly enough ;)

But if you don't sleep you'll end up sewing your clothing to your kids clothing and then you will all have to walk around attached together.

Thats what those silly kids get for not letting me sleep. :rotfl:
My DD has decided to be light sleeper this week, waking up at the slightest noise... so I have to :tiptoe: tiptoe around once I finally get her to sleep and hope...hope...hope...she stays asleep. Whew.

Yes - this has been a tough week for me with "growing up". My babies are going into second grade. With her hair cut and lost tooth I have been thinking about it a lot! I always wanted more kids, but we were so blessed with them after lots of fertiltiy treatment and LOTS of money - we just can't see spending the money again on a chance when it would mean sacrificing things for them. Anyway, I was finally moving on and OK with it all - it just hit me this week a little hard.

Good idea on the top - I may have to do that since I can't find a purple one - I was pretty frustrated after shopping for two days!

Lori, have you thought about taking a white tshirt in the style you like and dying it? I do this all the time for my girls when I cant find what I need. The Rit dye is only aout 2.99 or less and I know they have a great dark purple, the trick is to put it in the washer with HOT water and a cup of salt. Leave it for 20 minutes for the dark color and less for a lighter purple. I usually run the wash cycle with the dye/salt mixture for minute so it mixes into the clothing, and then turn the washer off for the desired amount of time. Then I pull the clothing up and check on it if I want it lighter than the color on the box. As soon as it reaches the desired color I shift it immediately into rinse cycle to get the dye off of it. If you remember my last sig picture, my girls had on princess dresses, all of those were dyed to the right colors of their fave princesses. Hope this helps and keeps you from having to do more work.

Beautiful! What a treasure this will be for her!
Thank you! I hope she will treasure it! And I hope your week gets better, I know its so hard to let them go because it means their growing up and that's just not easy.

It's Wonderful. I think she will love it. You to are going to have a magical day together. Enjoy yourselves.
.
Thank you too! I'm sorry about the light sleeper this week. I rememer those days, now they would sleep even if a fire truck went through their room. I hope you manage to get something done and get some rest!

I love the way the skirt turned out! Very cute!!! Adorable outfits, all of them.

So much change for you though! short hair and now a missing tooth!

I got mine at JoAnn's where it's kept with the quilting notions. The brand I bought is Fons & Porter which is often excluded from sales on quilting notions so I made sure to grab it when I could get it at 50% off (it's regularly $16.99 but well worth that price but I'm cheap :)).

I fuse all the pieces in place before I do any stitching. When I'm drawing the pieces onto my fusible, I decide which piece to be on top then assemble everything from the back to the front. With the Ariel design, I started with the rock pieces, added the seaweed and starfish then began assembling Ariel herself. Once it had cooled, I peeled it off the pressing sheet and moved the whole thing to the fabric to which it was to be stitched.

Once the assembled applique is fused to the base fabric/garment (with stabilizer behind the base), I begin stitching. As with assembling the pieces, I work from the "back" to the front in layers. That means I sometimes have to rethread the same color more than once as I work forward. This also has each new layer of stitching secure the beginning and end stitching of the previous layer. That way I only have to pull the top thread to the back to tie in a few locations. (I tie or secure all thread this way so the stitching doesn't start to unravel over time.)

Here's the order I did for the Ariel applique:
1) The dark grey of the rock
2) The light grey of the rock
3) The purple seaweed and the starfish
4) The green seaweed and her hair - but not where it overlaps her face.
5) The whites of her eyes and the main part of her body - but not the hands or the arm that is in front of her "knees"
6) The rest of her hair, the main part of her tail, irises of her eyes and her top
7) Her hands and remaining arm, fins, pupils and the "peplum" at her waist
8) The rest of the details of her face are hand embroidered

That means I changed the top thread about 15 times. Mine may not be the most efficient way to do it but it's working for me and I'm generally happy with the results. :goodvibes Of course the more I do it, the more I find better ways to do things that usually save time.

These are really helpful directions! Thank you so much. You make it seem so easy - I really need to get over my fear and give it a try. Thanks so much!

CAN THIS BE ADDED TO BOOKMARKS? Thanks!

You're so lucky your dd can wear sandals to school. My dd goes to a public school with a strict dress code... It's so hot here in Florida I really hate putting shoes and socks on each day..I feel sorry for her.

She can wear sandals to school, as long as they have a back to them. No flip flops, or wheeled foot wear are allowed.

It was so hot here yesterday, that a lot of the surrounding schools closed due to the heat. DD's school does not have a/c, except for the library, and the office! She was so hot and flushed by the time she got home! Even her Minnie bow drooped from the heat!
She did have fun though, and can't wait until the weekend is over!

She does have to wear tennis shoes on gym day.

First of all Teresa, great job with the princess toile. We will have to call you Shirley! It really looks gorgeous, although you could put a paper sack on that child and she would be beautiful.

But I have to ask -- when do you sleep?

Sleep is highly overrated! I think this first week of school has been a little more stressful to the kids than they let on: every night I have had a little visitor with complaints ranging from bad dreams to mosquito bites.

This is perfect! I wish I could see your daughter's face when you give it to her. Please take a picture of her wearing it for us. I'm teary just looking at it!

I have finished my first ruffle and attached to the bottom of the skirt! Now my question. I have read that I should topstitch 1/8 inch from the seam. If I do the topstitching, do I still need to trim and finish the edges? I guess I would need to do that first? Or can I skip it if I'm doing the topstitching. Sorry, sounds really basic but I'm just not sure!

Also, do you topstitch each layer on a twirl skirt? I have not in the past but was wondering if I should. Or do you just do it with the ruffle to make it lay correctly?

I haven't top stitched my skirts. I go around twice so it's secure and then trim with pinking shears (haven't tackled serging yet) and then iron. I haven't had any problems with them yet.

These are all great! My daughter is still holding on to her loose tooth. I always get sad when they lose their teeth because it's kind of the end of the baby face and the beginning of the kid face. It's like the last bastion of babyness. She looks so excited in her new clothes though!

Her bow is droopy! I was about to say I was jealous because we have to wear sneakers but then I read about the AC! The AC in the school went out for a couple of hours this week and I felt so sorry for the kids. I'm glad she had a good day!

I still finish off the egde before I topstitch. Also when I do a twirl skirt, I also top stitch the layers too, just to make them look neater on the inside.
When i stitch the squares, I stitch them, then zig-zag them and top stitch each one, so I am literally sewing each seam 3 times, and I also top stitch each tier that I sew together..

Great job on the outfits!! I love them! I found purple tops at Target, but thye may be more lavendar. Your dd is so adorable! I love the super cute short cut and missing tooth!

That's my problem - I can't find a purple top anywhere. :(

Lori, what size do you need? I have a purple tank that I bought at Kmart and took that Ariel applique off of. I'm on the road right now, but I think it's a size 6/7. You can PM me if you want to see pics of it.

But I have to ask -- when do you sleep?

I sleep inbetween, sewing jobs...LOL
So that would be never...
I have 2 little ones, a full time school schedule, their school schedule, and I sew, and try to keep house. And I'm a single Mom...did I also mention that I have 2 acres of grass that I have to keep up....LOL...Someday I will be the crazy old lady with the weeds growing right up to the front door....:rotfl:
